Chapter 154 - The Dormitory's Haunting Cry

In a school, there was a story circulating about a very old dormitory building for female students. Due to the low number of residents, the school had not renovated the building. Approximately one-third of the rooms inside remained empty. Xiao $ and Xiao # were new students who had just moved in. On the first night, late into the night, they faintly heard a pitiful crying coming from the hallway. In the following days, every night was the same, and the haunting cries prevented them from getting any sleep. They decided to share their experience with the senior students.

Initially, the senior students denied such a thing, but after persistent questioning from Xiao $ and Xiao #, they revealed that a girl had committed suicide by hanging herself in one of the rooms in the building. Xiao $ was an atheist and didn't believe it. She said, "The crying at night must be someone playing tricks. Tonight, I will expose them!" With that, she left.

The more timid Xiao # hadn't yet grasped the situation, but the senior students had more to say. However, Xiao # was the only one who heard the rest of the conversation.

That night, Xiao $ and Xiao # both couldn't sleep. Just past midnight, the faint crying sounds returned—wailing that sent shivers down their spines. Xiao $ turned to Xiao # and said, "Let's go check it out." She then led Xiao # towards the source of the sound. Xiao # was pale and numb, following Xiao $.

The dormitory hallway was filled with an eerie atmosphere in the middle of the night. The dim and flickering lights cast long shadows behind them. They reached the fourth floor, where the crying sounded more mournful and terrifying. Even Xiao $ began to feel scared at this point. They arrived at the door of one of the dorm rooms, where the crying was coming from. It was evident that the room had been abandoned for a long time, covered in peeling paint and cobwebs.

At this moment, the terrifying cries suddenly stopped, leaving behind a deathly silence. Xiao $ took a deep breath and glanced at the trembling Xiao #. She then forcefully pushed the door, but it was locked tightly and wouldn't budge. Xiao #, quivering, said, "Let's go back. I'm really scared." Xiao $ paid no attention and realized that the lock on the door was an old-style one with a tiny keyhole about the size of a little fingernail. She pressed her eye against the keyhole and looked inside, but all she could see was a blood-red expanse—nothing else. She rubbed her eyes and looked inside the hole again, only to see the same blood-red color. She muttered, "Why is it just a sea of red?"

Hearing this, Xiao # collapsed on the floor, her lips turning pale. She trembled as she said, "The senior students said that when the girl hanged herself, her eyes turned red... Xiao $, her eyes were red!!"
