Chapter 104 - 32-36

Chapter 32: Geometric Endgame

Wang Mie felt the weight of exhaustion bearing down on her, her qi reserves nearly depleted. Yet, a glimmer of hope sparked within her as she saw the silver basilisk frozen in its icy prison. This was their perfect chance—Ning Rong was free, and the beast was momentarily immobilized.

"Switch!" she shouted, her voice ringing with determination. Drawing her last arrow, she activated her unique ability. The arrow glowed with a golden hue, infused with the properties of her decay concept. Wang Mie's special ability allowed her to transform anything she touched into a conduit for her qi, releasing it upon her command to cause decay or corrosion.

Memories of her struggles with this ability flashed through her mind. Unlike Li Liang, whose own abilities brought him considerable pain and difficulty, she had managed to gain control over her power.

This shared hardship fostered a special kinship between them, one rooted in mutual understanding .

Meanwhile, Lin Ji charged at her with his sword drawn, eyes filled with malice. But Wang Mie remained unfazed.

She knew he could never outrun Ning Rong, especially now that she had revealed her dual mid-level concept physique. The revelation of Ning Rong's lightning abilities had been shocking, even to her.

The basilisk's eyes moved, fixing its gaze on Wang Mie. She could feel the pressure mounting, knowing she had to act quickly. If she didn't give her best effort and the beast survived, they would all be doomed.

She focused on her arrow, channeling every last bit of her qi into it. The arrow hummed with energy, glowing brighter with each passing second.

She took aim, targeting the basilisk's eyes—one of the few parts not completely covered in ice. It was a risky shot, but it was their best chance.

With her wind concept enhancing her shot, she released the arrow. It sliced through the air with incredible speed, a golden streak aimed straight at the basilisk's vulnerable eyes.

As the arrow flew, time seemed to slow. The golden hue intensified, the arrow a beacon of decay and destruction. Wang Mie watched with bated breath, praying that her aim was true.

The arrow struck the basilisk's eye, sending a shockwave through its frozen form.

Wang Mie watched with anticipation, expecting the golden energy to spread rapidly from the point of contact, activating the decay concept and causing the flesh around the eye to wither and rot.

But that's not what happened.

Instead, the basilisk seemed to fracture like a delicate mirror. Cracks spiderwebbed across its surface, and then, with a final, almost delicate shattering sound, it broke apart into countless pieces.

The fragments dissipated into the air, leaving no trace behind, as if the creature had never been there.

"What…?" Wang Mie thought, momentarily stunned. Her mind struggled to process what she had just witnessed. Before she could make sense of it, a deep rumbling of thunder announced the arrival of Ning Rong, her form crackling with pink lightning.

She appeared beside Wang Mie in an instant, her presence a beacon of power and determination.

Lin Ji, having stopped a few meters away, felt a chill run down his spine at the sight of the pink lightning. He turned to flee, cursing himself for his hesitation.

He should have run the moment Wang Mie had said 'switch,' but his hatred for her had clouded his judgment. He hadn't expected Ning Rong to arrive so quickly—less than ten seconds.

Desperation fueled his movements, but as he tried to turn and escape, his body betrayed him. He froze in place, a paralyzing sensation gripping him.

It was as if his soul had been yanked from his body, leaving him helpless. His eyes glazed over, and all he could see was a vortex of dark pink energy swirling in front of him.

It felt as though it was sucking his soul away, an all-consuming force that left him unable to move.

Suddenly, Lin Ji jolted, coming back to his senses. The world snapped back into focus, and the first thing he saw was a head of silver hair in front of him.

An odd sensation enveloped his neck, and realization dawned on him with horrifying clarity. He tried to react, but it was too late.

The world began to spin as his head was separated from his body. He fell to the ground, his vision tilting and blurring. The last thing he saw was his own headless body, blood spurting from the neck.

"So, I'm going to die like this," Lin Ji thought, his final moments filled with regret and despair. His vision darkened, and he knew no more.

Wang Mie, still catching her breath, looked down at the lifeless body of Lin Ji. She felt a mix of relief and dread.

"I think you are out of qi. You should rest," Ning Rong said, her voice calm but tinged with concern.

Wang Mie, still panting, gave a bitter laugh. "I think all of us are going to 'rest' permanently soon enough," she said, pointing slightly to the left, where the basilisk should have been.

As she pointed, a shimmering haze began to clear, and an oppressive presence filled the air. The enlarged basilisk revealed itself, stepping into view.

It was colossal, its body now comparable to a house, and it radiated a fierce, ominous energy. Remnants of ice clung to its scales, slowly melting and dripping off, evidence of the powerful talisman that had temporarily restrained it.

The basilisk's body shimmered again, and it began to radiate a dark, smoky aura. The ice that had encased it melted completely, steam rising from its scales.

With an ear-splitting hiss, the basilisk locked them with it's soul sense, as a terrifying fluctuation of qi spread in the environment. Wang Mie and Ning Rong braced themselves.

But it was futile all they saw was world distort in front of them as found themselves sinking in a swamp of snakes.

But at that instant, a calm and authoritative voice rang through the air. "I think that's enough."

The basilisk looked in the the direction of the voice and saw a little maggot the size of his one scale.

It snorted in disdain at the little bug but was little surprised as to why he was't in it's illusion nonetheless it gathered energy in front of it's face as a concentrated ball of qi the size of that human's head formed in front of him.

He released it with a grunt but to it's surprise the little maggot didn't run instead he raised his right hand and swung.

The moment he did that, eight searing chains made of fire qi materialized out of thin air. One of the chains raced towards the incoming beam and slashed it in half as the beam dissipated.

After that the chains wrapped around various points on the basilisk's massive body, encasing it in a triangular bipyramid structure formed entirely out of fire qi.

The chains glowed with an intense, almost blinding light, and the heat they emitted caused the air around them to shimmer and distort.

The only expression if it can be considered one on the face of basilisk was that of utter confusion and disbelief , it screeched as if trying to say something, the mere thought of such a powerful beast having this level of intelligence sent a shiver down my spine.

Ning Rong and Wang Mie escaped the illusion as they gasped for air.

Ning Rong's face lit up with a mixture of relief and amusement. "So you managed to cast that in time," she said, a smile spreading across her face. "I thought I was going to be kicking your ass in the afterlife."

"Since your old man never showed up, I thought I might as well save his little princess since she can't do that herself," I replied with a smug smile, stepping into view.

Wang Mie, her face a mask of shock and confusion, sputtered as she struggled to comprehend what she was seeing. "Wait—what? How can a high-level grade 2 formation just pop out of nowhere? And what do you mean by he managed to cast it? He's not even at the body tempering stage yet!"

I chuckled, enjoying the look of bewilderment on Wang Mie's face. "It's all about preparation and understanding the principles of formations," I said.

"I've been studying and practicing, preparing for a situation just like this. It's not about the stage you're at, but how well you can manipulate the qi and understand the formation and of couse all of you bought me enough time to cast it."

The chains tightened around the basilisk, which thrashed and hissed in fury, but the formation held firm. The beast's eyes glowed with a malevolent light, but it was clear that it was now trapped, its immense power rendered useless by the constraints of the formation.

Ning Rong shook her head in disbelief, but her eyes sparkled with admiration. "You always manage to surprise me," she said.

"I aim to please," I replied, my voice light but my gaze serious as I watched the basilisk struggle. "Now, let's finish this while we have the chance."

Wang Mie, still stunned, finally nodded in agreement. "Alright," she said, her voice steadier now. "Let's take this thing down for good."

As we prepared for the final strike, the fire qi chains continued to burn bright, holding the basilisk in place. The formation was a testament to the power of preparation and knowledge, a high-level technique executed perfectly despite my current cultivation stage.

The basilisk, sensing its impending defeat, let out a final, defiant roar, its eyes blazing with hatred. But it was too late. We were ready to end this, once and for all.

With a coordinated effort, we launched our final attacks, combining our remaining qi and skills to deliver a devastating blow. The basilisk's roars turned to screams of agony as our combined might overwhelmed it.

The fire qi chains tightened one last time, and with a brilliant flash of light, the basilisk was consumed by the overwhelming power, its form disintegrating into ash.

Silence fell over the battlefield as the dust settled. The once mighty basilisk was no more, and we stood victorious, our bodies battered.

"I guess you won't be kicking my ass in the afterlife after all," I said, breaking the silence.

Ning Rong laughed, a sound of pure relief. "Not today, it seems."

Wang Mie, finally recovering from her shock, looked at me with newfound respect. "You're full of surprises," she said.

I shrugged, a satisfied smile on my face. "Just doing what needs to be done."

...

"Ning jian why don't you look your usual cocky self today?" Elder Lin said as he lifted Ning Jian up by his hair.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA , mock me now would you?" Elder Lin laughed maniacally as he remembered all the times he was humiliated.

Chapter 33: All I Want is to Read Books in Peace

"Don't waste my time, Lin Yushua. I don't care about the feud between you two, just get me that Nine Treasure Lotus. You have made some big claims," Elder Zhao said as he descended on his flying sword, his presence imposing and undeniably dangerous.

"You have decent talent, Ning Jian, and the fact you comprehended the concept of water without a physique is already extremely remarkable, but it's a shame you were not able to understand core formation, or else today's battle would have been a lot more interesting."

"I don't know who you are, but don't count your dragons before they hatch," Ning Jian laughed at Elder Zhao, blood flooding his mouth.

"How about this: you give that lotus to me, and I can spare your clan in return?" Elder Zhao proposed, his tone calm but carrying an underlying threat.

"Elder, you can't go back on your words! You promised us," Elder Lin sputtered, a little flustered.

"You fool, he's from the Demon Gate. Do you think he cares about promises? Since he showed himself today, it means no one can escape," Ning Jian laughed, an irritated laugh escaping his bloody lips.

"What—?" Elder Lin stepped back subconsciously, dropping the half-dead Ning Jian. His eyes bulged as he seemed to recall something, but he was in denial because he knew what it would entail for the entire clan if this was true... destruction.

Elder Zhao's eyes narrowed slightly, a flicker of surprise crossing his usually imperturbable features. "You're sharper than you look, Ning Jian," he said, a hint of respect coloring his tone. "Not many can recognize a Demon Gate operative so quickly. But it won't save you."

Elder Zhao moved closer to Ning Jian, his presence like a dark cloud descending upon the battlefield. He extended a hand, and dark tendrils of energy began to snake their way towards Ning Jian, wrapping around him and seeping into his very being. Ning Jian's body convulsed as the dark energy latched onto his soul, causing excruciating pain.

"Tell me where the Nine Treasure Lotus is," Elder Zhao demanded, his voice cold and commanding. "Or I will extract the information from your soul, piece by piece."

Ning Jian's eyes widened with pain, but he gritted his teeth, refusing to give in. "Go to hell," he spat, blood dribbling from his mouth.

Elder Zhao's face remained impassive as he increased the intensity of the dark tendrils, driving them deeper into Ning Jian's soul. The pain was unbearable, like white-hot knives slicing through his very essence. Ning Jian screamed, his body writhing in agony, but still, he refused to speak.

"Your resilience is commendable, but futile," Elder Zhao said. "You will tell me what I want to know, one way or another."

Ning Jian's vision blurred from the pain, but he managed to glare defiantly at Elder Zhao. "I... will never... betray my clan," he said through gritted teeth.

Elder Lin watched in horror, his mind reeling from the realization that they were dealing with a member of the Demon Gate. His body trembled with fear, knowing the sheer ruthlessness and power of such an opponent. He glanced at the other Lin clan members, who were equally shaken, their confidence shattered by the revelation.

Elder Zhao's patience was wearing thin. With a swift motion, he intensified the dark energy, causing Ning Jian to scream louder, his soul feeling like it was being torn apart. "Enough of this," Elder Zhao said, his voice now laced with frustration. "You will tell me what I want to know, or your soul will be destroyed."

Ning Jian's body convulsed violently as the dark energy threatened to tear his soul asunder. He knew he couldn't hold out much longer. The pain was unbearable, and his will was being pushed to its limit. Just as he was about to break, a sudden surge of qi burst from within him, momentarily pushing back the dark tendrils.

"Get away from him!" a voice shouted from the distance.

An ocean of green flames descended, engulfing both Ning Jian and Elder Zhao. A cultivator stood in mid-air, his white hair fluttering in the wind, his somewhat aged face showing hints of anger.

"Father!!" Ning Jian said hoarsely as the dark qi engulfing him evaporated and Elder Zhao emerged from the green flames unharmed.

"Demon!! You dare to show yourself in open, you think rats like you can escape Heaven Dao Territory after coming here uninvited?" The clan leader of the Ning Clan, Ning Wushuang, confronted the Demon Gate cultivator.

"Don't be too cocky. In front of me, you can't really do much with that level of strength," Elder Zhao said as he emerged from the ocean of flames unscathed, his body shining with purple qi, and a halo of solid purple qi rotating behind his back, a purple field surrounding him.

"Dao of Blood, interesting. This is my first time seeing someone using this," Ning Wushuang said. "But your assumptions are wrong. It won't be me who is going to face you."

The moment he said that, a massive pressure descended on the battlefield.

From the sky descended an ethereal figure, clad in flowing robes that seemed to shimmer with the essence of the forest itself. Leaves swirled around him, and the air grew thick with the scent of blooming flowers and rich earth. Elder Zhao's eyes widened in shock as he recognized the newcomer.

"Elder Qian of the Heaven Dao Sect!" Elder Zhao spat, his expression a mix of fury and disbelief. "What is someone like you doing here?"

Elder Qian, his presence commanding and serene, landed gracefully beside Ning Wushuang. "The Ning Clan has offered the Heaven Dao Sect something irresistible," he said, his voice calm yet powerful. "It is simply your misfortune that you were here in the Ning Clan's territory this week."

Elder Zhao's mind raced. He knew that facing someone of Elder Qian's caliber was a death sentence. He had to escape, and fast. With a swift motion, he activated his blood qi, his body glowing a dark, ominous red. The halo behind him pulsed as he gathered his strength.

"You think you can stop me?" Elder Zhao sneered. "I will escape and return with reinforcements. The Demon Gate will not be denied!"

Elder Qian's eyes narrowed, his expression unyielding. "You can try," he said simply.

Elder Zhao unleashed a torrent of blood qi, the dark energy surging around him like a storm. He moved to escape, his form blurring with speed as he attempted to flee. But Elder Qian was prepared. With a wave of his hand, the forest responded.

Vines erupted from the ground, trees bent and twisted, forming an impenetrable barrier around the battlefield. The nature qi infused in the plants glowed with a vibrant green light, their energy pulsating with life and power.

Elder Zhao cursed under his breath as he tried to break through the barrier. His blood qi clashed with the nature qi, the dark red and vibrant green energies swirling and colliding. Each time he tried to force his way through, the plants seemed to grow stronger, feeding off his energy and reinforcing themselves.

Elder Zhao gritted his teeth and drew upon his blood essence, a desperate move that would weaken him significantly but might give him the power he needed to escape. His body glowed brighter, the dark red energy intensifying. He struck at the barrier with renewed force, the blood qi seeping into the plants and causing them to wither and die.

Elder Qian watched calmly, his hands weaving intricate patterns in the air. The forest responded to his will, regrowing faster than Elder Zhao could destroy it. The vines thickened, the trees grew taller, and the ground itself seemed to come alive, ensnaring Elder Zhao's feet and slowing his movements.

"You cannot escape, demon," Elder Qian said, his voice echoing with the power of nature itself. "Your blood qi is strong, but it cannot overcome the will of the forest."

Elder Zhao roared in frustration, his blood essence depleting rapidly. He knew he couldn't keep this up for long. With a final, desperate effort, he gathered all his remaining energy and unleashed a massive burst of blood qi, the dark energy exploding outward and shattering the barrier around him.

The force of the explosion sent shockwaves through the forest, the ground trembling and the trees swaying. Elder Zhao, now a shadow of his former self, used the last of his strength to flee, his form blurring as he disappeared into the distance.

Elder Qian watched him go, a hint of regret in his eyes. "He will be back," he said softly. "But he won't be as strong as he once was."

Ning Wushuang nodded, his expression grim. "We need to prepare for their return. The Demon Gate won't let this go."

"We need to strengthen our defenses," Ning Wushuang said, his voice firm. "The Demon Gate will not rest until they have what they want. We must be ready for their next move."

Elder Qian nodded in agreement. "I will inform the Heaven Dao Sect of what has transpired. They will look into the matter.

As the meeting adjourned, Ning Wushuang placed a hand on his son's shoulder. "You did well today,"

.....

In the depths of the forest, Elder Zhao staggered through the underbrush, his body weak and his qi depleted. He cursed under his breath, the taste of failure bitter in his mouth.

"They will pay for this," he vowed, his eyes burning with hatred. "The Demon Gate will not be denied."

"I hope you like my parting gift ." He said with a vicious grin on his face.

As he disappeared into the shadows, the forest seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. But the tranquility was short-lived. The battle had been won, but the war was far from over. He has set some other things in motion and the formation is almost ready. But where is that Jian wuji.

.......

The aftermath of the battle with the silver basilisk left the forest in a state of eerie calm. As I walked through the debris, my steps heavy with exhaustion, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief that the fighting was over. The air was thick with the lingering scent of burnt qi, and the ground bore scars of the fierce struggle.

Picking up Lin Ji's spatial pouch from the ground, I felt a surge of curiosity as I opened it to inspect its contents. Among various treasures, my eyes fell upon a strange-looking flag adorned with mysterious symbols. The flag emitted an ominous aura, hinting at its potential significance.

"What secrets do you hold?" I mused aloud, examining the flag with keen interest. I tucked it away into my own spatial pouch, eager to delve deeper into its mysteries when I had the chance.

However, my excitement soon gave way to a wave of exhaustion. The events of the day had taken their toll on me, and I longed for the tranquility of my study where I could lose myself in books and experiments. The battle had sparked new ideas and insights, but now I craved the familiar comfort of my scholarly pursuits.

"I'm getting too old for this," I muttered to myself, rubbing my temples wearily. Glancing over at Wang Mie, I could see the admiration and curiosity in her eyes. She had learned of my ability to cast Grade 2 formations, a skill I had hoped to keep hidden.

"You promised not to tell anyone," I reminded her, my tone tinged with weariness.

Wang Mie nodded, a playful smile dancing on her lips. "I remember. But it's hard not to be impressed."

I sighed, feeling a twinge of annoyance. I preferred the quiet solitude of my study, away from the scrutiny of others. "Just help me carry the others. We need to get back to the entrance."

Together, we lifted our fainted comrades, their bodies limp with exhaustion. The weight was heavy, and with each step, I could feel my muscles protesting. Despite my scholarly pursuits, I was not weak, but the day's events had left me drained.

As we made our way back toward the entrance, I couldn't help but yearn for the peace and quiet that awaited me. I had experiments waiting to be conducted, and a stack of books waiting to be read. The battle had provided me with fresh insights and inspiration, but now I longed to return to my life of scholarly pursuits.

"All I want is to read books in peace," I muttered under my breath, shaking my head as I glanced at the unconscious bodies of my companions. "Is that too much to ask?"

Wang Mie chuckled softly beside me, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "For someone with your talents, it might be."

Ning Rong was chuckling on the side, probably happy she was not only one forced to keep my secrets .

I sighed, adjusting my grip on one of the unconscious warriors. "Let's just get back. I have experiments waiting for me."

Together, we trudged back to the entrance, the forest gradually giving way to the familiar paths leading home. Despite the exhaustion and the challenges ahead, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. My mind buzzed with ideas, and I couldn't wait to dive back into my research.

But for now, all I wanted was a moment of rest, a quiet corner, and a good book.

Chapter 34: A man close to nature

Carrying Li Liang, Lu Jing, and two other unconscious Ning Clan members through the forest was no easy task. The weight of their bodies, combined with the exhaustion from the battle, made each step a challenge.

Yet, the beauty of the forest provided a welcome distraction. Sunlight filtered through the dense canopy, casting dappled shadows on the forest floor. The air was filled with the scent of blooming flowers and the distant calls of exotic birds. If it weren't for the dire circumstances, it would have been a serene and peaceful journey.

Wang Mie, Ning Rong, and I worked in tandem, our movements synchronized as we navigated the forest paths. The recent battle had left us all weary, but there was a sense of camaraderie that hadn't been there before. It was as if the shared struggle had forged an unspoken bond among us.

"Hey, Ning Feng," Wang Mie began, her tone uncharacteristically sweet. "You're so great at formations. Could you teach me sometime?"

I almost stumbled at the unexpected shift in her demeanor. Wang Mie was usually so formal and reserved. This sudden sweetness felt out of place, almost creepy. I glanced at her, trying to gauge her sincerity.

"Um, sure, I guess," I replied hesitantly. "Why the sudden interest in learning from me , Your master is also a grade 2 formation master?"

Wang Mie's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm. "Well, after seeing you in action today, I realized you are much better than him." She said without a hint of hesitation.

Damn , that old bastard might cough up blood in the xianxia way if he hears this but it it feels like music to my ears.

" And honestly, you make it look so easy." She said with a hint of respect.

I chuckled nervously, still unsettled by her change in behaviour. "Easy, huh? It's all about practice and understanding the principles. But yeah, I can show you a few things."

As we continued our trek, I couldn't shake the feeling that this ordeal had brought us closer together. The way Wang Mie was now interacting with me, the way Ning Rong had fought so fiercely—it all felt like we were finally becoming a united team. Despite the creepy sweetness, it was a welcome change from our usual formality.

"Ning Feng," Ning Rong's voice broke the silence. "How come you weren't affected by the basilisk's illusion?"

I smiled, appreciating the curiosity in her eyes. "I created a qi-dispersing rune with a fire concept. It essentially burns away qi, and the illusion was too widespread to overwhelm it. It's a peak grade 1 rune, so it's quite effective."

Ning Rong's eyes widened in admiration. "That's incredible! I didn't know you could create such runes."

I shrugged modestly. "It's just something I've been working on. I designed it myself. Formations and runes can be incredibly powerful if used correctly." On the side, Wang Mie's smile faltered as it gave way to shock, her mouth falling agape.

I chuckled. "I've had enough fun for today. Any more, and she might actually die of a heart attack," I thought. She already knew a lot about me because of this whole ordeal. This wouldn't make much of a difference, but it sure felt good to brag in front of someone who actually knew its worth instead of a certain silver-haired brat who made fake expressions just to show me she knew how amazing I am when she didn't know jack.

"How did you even come up with that?" Wang Mie asked, still processing the revelation.

I smiled, feeling a bit smug. "A lot of trial and error. And a lot of late nights. But it was worth it. Having the right tools can make all the difference in a fight."

As we walked, the forest seemed to close in around us, the trees growing taller and the underbrush denser. Despite the challenges, there was a sense of peace in the natural beauty surrounding us. The vibrant greens of the leaves, the soft rustle of the wind, and the occasional splash of color from wildflowers all combined to create a picturesque scene.

"So, what's the next step for you?" Wang Mie asked, breaking the comfortable silence.

I thought for a moment, considering my answer. "I have some experiments I want to conduct, and a lot of reading to catch up on. This whole ordeal has given me some new ideas."

Wang Mie nodded, a smile playing on her lips. "Sounds like you're never bored."

"Not if I can help it," I replied with a grin.

As we neared the edge of the forest, the weight of our comrades seemed to grow heavier. The entrance was in sight, and the thought of rest was almost overwhelming. Despite the exhaustion, I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. We had faced incredible odds and come out on top. Our bond as a team had strengthened, and I had gained new insights that would fuel my research for months to come.

"Hey, Ning Feng," Wang Mie said again, this time her tone more serious. "Thanks for saving us back there."

"No prob-" I was about to reply when I felt my vision blur. The world around me started to spin, and I stumbled, barely managing to stay on my feet. I could hear Wang Mie and Ning Rong calling my name, their voices distant and echoing.

"Ning Feng!" Wang Mie shouted, panic evident in her voice.

I tried to respond, but my words came out as a slurred mumble. My legs gave out from under me, and I felt myself falling. The last thing I saw was the concerned faces of my friends, and then everything went black.

...

When I finally regained consciousness, I found myself lying on the ground, surrounded by the others. Ning Rong was kneeling beside me, her hand gently resting on my forehead.

"He's waking up," she said softly, relief evident in her voice.

I groaned, trying to sit up. "What happened?"

I saw that the previously fainted Li Liang and the others were already back on their feet. It looked like everyone had recovered some strength.

Before I could speak, the sky was suddenly illuminated by bursts of color. Explosions echoed through the forest, each one a brilliant flash against the green canopy. Vibrant greens and dark reds dominated the spectacle, painting the surroundings in an eerie, otherworldly light.

"What's going on?" I asked, squinting up at the sky as another explosion rippled through the air, this time a brilliant green, casting an emerald hue over the trees.

Li Liang's expression turned serious as he watched the display. "It looks like a battle. Judging by the intensity and the colors, it might be our master. There's no way he didn't keep an eye on us."

A dark red explosion followed, the shockwave causing the trees to tremble. The red light was almost sinister, casting long, ominous shadows. The ground seemed to shake with each blast, the air thick with the scent of burned leaves and earth.

"Master must be fighting someone really powerful," Ning Rong said, her voice tinged with worry. "These explosions... they're too intense for anything else."

The sounds of the explosions continued, each one punctuated by flashes of light. Some were bright green, shimmering with an almost calming presence, while others were dark red, violent and foreboding.

The sky was a chaotic mix of these colors, each explosion a testament to the fierce battle taking place somewhere nearby.

As we watched the sky, the ground beneath us began to tremble. The entire forest seemed to come alive. Trees and plants started glowing with vibrant hues, their leaves shimmering in a spectrum of colors. Branches stretched and twisted, extending toward the distant battle as if driven by a will of their own.

"This... this is incredible," I whispered, a sense of awe washing over me. "This must be the mid-level Concept of Nature. To think such power can command the very forest itself."

Wang Mie, wide-eyed, nodded in agreement. "It's like the entire forest is responding to the battle. I've never seen anything like this."

As the ground continued to rumble and the trees moved with an almost sentient grace, I felt a deep admiration for the power on display. The Concept of Nature at this level was not merely about controlling plants; it was about commanding the life force of the entire forest, bending it to one's will in a harmonious yet formidable dance.

"We need to move," Li Liang said, urgency in his voice. "If our master is fighting, we can't afford to be caught in the aftermath."

Ning Rong and Wang Mie helped support me as we began to make our way through the shifting forest. The path was no longer clear, as roots and vines crisscrossed the ground, making our journey treacherous. Despite the chaos, I couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of it all. Each step we took was accompanied by the radiant glow of the flora around us, creating an ethereal atmosphere.

"Stay close," I instructed, trying to keep my voice steady despite the awe and fear warring within me. "We don't know what else might be out there."

As we moved, the sounds of the explosions grew louder, and the light show in the sky became more intense. The air was thick with the scent of burning wood and the metallic tang of blood. It was a stark reminder that while the display of power was beautiful, it was also deadly.

"Do you think father can handle this?" Ning Rong asked, her voice tinged with worry.

"He has to," Li Liang replied, his expression set in grim determination. "There's no other option. We need to trust in his strength and focus on getting ourselves to safety."

I nodded in agreement, though the anxiety gnawed at me. The master's power was immense, but the enemy he faced was clearly no ordinary foe. As the forest continued to morph around us, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of respect for the master. To command such power was beyond anything I had ever imagined.

The forest itself seemed to be guiding us, the trees parting just enough to allow our passage while still creating a protective barrier around us. I could feel the master's influence in every movement of the plants, his control extending even to our safe passage.

"Let's pick up the pace," I urged, feeling a renewed sense of urgency. "We need to get out of here before things get even more dangerous."

But just as we were about to move, everything calmed down. The trees in front of us parted and leaned sideways, creating a path filled with flowers emitting iridescent light. It was as if the forest itself was welcoming us.

"What's going on now?" Wang Mie muttered, her eyes wide with awe and suspicion.

Before any of us could respond, a figure appeared above us, floating in the sky. A somewhat old-looking cultivator with white hair gazed down at us with interest. His presence was commanding, his robes flowing gracefully as if untouched by the chaos around him.

"Who is that?" Ning Rong whispered, her voice barely audible.

The old cultivator descended slowly, landing softly on the flower-strewn path before us. He looked at each of us in turn, his eyes filled with a mix of curiosity and amusement.

"Greetings, young ones," he said, his voice smooth and calming. "I am an Elder Qian of the Heaven Dao Sect ."

Elder Qian's aura was overwhelming, yet there was a gentleness to it that put us slightly at ease. I could feel the immense power radiating from him, a testament to his mastery over the nature concept.

"Are you here to help us?" I asked, still wary but hopeful.

Elder Qian smiled. "Indeed. I sensed the disturbance in the forest and came to investigate. It seems you have been through quite an ordeal."

"Thank you, Elder Qian," Ning Rong said, bowing respectfully. "We were just trying to find a way out after battling the silver basilisk."

Elder Qian's eyes twinkled with amusement. "A silver basilisk, you say? Quite the formidable opponent. And yet, here you all stand, battered but alive. Impressive."

"We were just lucky," I admitted, glancing at my companions.

With a wave of his hand, Elder Qian summoned a gentle breeze that washed over us. I felt my fatigue easing, my wounds healing. It was as if the forest itself was lending its strength to us.

"Thank you, Elder Qian," I said, feeling a sense of relief.

But he didn't look at me he was looking at Ning Rong with some hidden anticipation.

Damn what is up with this old pervert thinking.

"So, are you Ning Rong of the Ning clan?" He asked .

"Yes" Ning Rong replied warily. He nodded and waved his hand and all of us were lifted in mid air.

Chapter 35: An Invitation and experimentation

This time, I could feel the air brushing my face and see the breathtaking view from up here. I had traveled in an airplane only a few times before, but the difference was stark. I wasn't locked up in a cabin; I was directly flying. Achieving this on my own was probably one of my biggest motivations to cultivate. I wanted to fly on my own and maneuver however I liked.

As we reached our destination, I spotted Ning Jian looking in our direction. He appeared battered, a testament to his own set of ordeals. Beside him floated another person, commanding and regal in presence.

The figure beside Ning Jian was none other than the clan leader of the Ning Clan, Ning Wushuang. He was an imposing figure with a mane of white hair that cascaded down his back like a waterfall of silver. His eyes were sharp, piercing through the distance with a gaze that could easily intimidate even the bravest of souls.

His robes were a deep shade of green, adorned with intricate gold embroidery that seemed to shimmer with an inner light. He exuded an aura of immense power and wisdom, the kind that only came with decades of experience and mastery.

As we descended, I marveled at the sight of him. He radiated authority and strength, yet there was a serene calmness about him that commanded respect.

Ning Rong and I landed softly on the ground, and Ning Jian immediately walked over to us. "You made it back," he said, relief evident in his voice.

"We did," Ning Rong replied, her tone equally relieved. "But it wasn't easy. We encountered a silver basilisk."

Ning Jian's eyes widened in shock. "A silver basilisk? How did you manage to survive?"

"We worked together," I said, trying to downplay my role. "Everyone contributed."

Ning Jian looked at me, then at Ning Rong, his expression softening. "I'm proud of you both. You've proven yourselves today."

As we conversed, Ning Wushuang floated down to join us. His presence was immediately felt, a tangible weight in the air. He looked at each of us with a keen eye, as if assessing our worth.

"Elder Qian, thank you for your assistance," Ning Wushuang said, bowing slightly to the older man who had appeared earlier.

"It was my duty," Elder Qian replied, his voice smooth and calm. "The young ones showed remarkable resilience."

Ning Jian turned his attention back to Ning Rong. "Rong'er, are you alright? Did the Lin Clan give you any trouble?"

Ning Rong hesitated for a moment before responding. "We had a confrontation with them. They attacked us, breaking the agreement between our clans."

Ning Jian's face darkened with rage. "The audacity of the Lin Clan! They will pay for this treachery."

"Calm down, Ning Jian," Ning Wushuang said, his voice a soothing balm. "We will deal with the Lin Clan in due time. For now, let us focus on the well-being of our young ones."

Ning Jian took a deep breath, visibly trying to calm himself. "You're right, Father. But this cannot go unanswered."

"It won't," Ning Wushuang assured him. "But vengeance can wait. Healing and recovery come first."

As we continued to talk, Elder Qian stepped forward, his eyes on Ning Rong. "Young lady, I am curious about your level of understanding in your martial techniques."

Ning Rong blinked, surprised by the sudden question. "All of my techniques are at the intermediate level," she replied honestly.

Elder Qian's eyebrows shot up in astonishment. "Intermediate level? At your age? That is quite impressive."

Ning Rong blushed slightly at the compliment. "Thank you, Elder."

Elder Qian nodded thoughtfully. "Meet me this evening at the estate. I would like to discuss your techniques further. I will be staying until tomorrow."

Ning Rong nodded eagerly. "Of course, Elder. I look forward to it."

I turned my attention back to Ning Wushuang, who was now addressing all of us. "You have all done well today. Your bravery and resilience are commendable. Take this time to rest and recover. There will be much to discuss and learn in the days ahead."

Wang Mie walked beside me, her usual formal demeanor replaced with a newfound camaraderie. "Ning Feng," she said sweetly, "

As we approached the estate, I took a deep breath, savoring the moment. The journey had been long and arduous, but it had also been a testament to our resilience and strength. And as we prepared to step into the next chapter of our lives, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement for what lay ahead.

....

After we reached the estate Ning Lian was waiting with a nervous look on her face , the moment we arrived she caused a huge ruckus and started throwing a tatrum, although I understand why .

She was probably on edge after hearing the news of what happened.

It took a while, but eventually, she settled down. We had a meal together and rested, the tension of the past hours slowly dissipating. Despite the relaxation, curiosity gnawed at me about why Elder Qian had summoned Ning Rong. I could guess it might be something significant, given his initial reaction.

Later that evening, we made our way to meet Elder Qian. He was seated in a spacious room filled with ancient scrolls and artifacts that seemed to hum with energy. The atmosphere was both intimidating and awe-inspiring.

"Please, sit," Elder Qian said, gesturing to the cushions laid out before him.

We took our seats, a sense of anticipation hanging in the air. Ning Rong, unable to contain her curiosity, spoke first. "Elder Qian, what did you want to talk about?"

Elder Qian looked at her with a serious expression. "I want to take you as my personal disciple."

The room fell silent. Wang Mie and Lu Jing both softly gasped, their eyes wide with shock.

Ning Rong herself seemed momentarily stunned before finding her voice. "What does it mean to be your personal disciple, Elder?"

Elder Qian leaned back slightly, his gaze encompassing all of us. "In our sect, disciples are categorized into three ranks: outer disciples, inner disciples, and core disciples. Outer disciples are those who have just joined and are still learning the basics. Inner disciples have proven themselves and gained access to more resources and advanced techniques. Core disciples, however, are the elite. They receive the best training, resources, and personal guidance from the sect's top elders."

He paused to let the information sink in before continuing. "If you accept my offer, you will directly become a core disciple. This means you will have access to the highest level of training and resources our sect can offer. You will be under my personal tutelage, learning techniques and concepts that are reserved for the best of the best."

Ning Rong's eyes widened in astonishment. "But... why me?"

Elder Qian smiled slightly. "Your potential is extraordinary. Your comprehension of martial techniques at such a young age is remarkable. With the right guidance, you could become one of the greatest cultivators of your generation. I see in you the potential to surpass even me one day."

The room was silent once more, the weight of Elder Qian's words settling over us like a heavy blanket. Finally, he looked at Ning Rong with a penetrating gaze. "So, what do you say? Will you accept my offer?"

"Elder I would like to think about it, can u give me some time ?" She said as she glanced in my direction.

"Alright you can give me your reply till tomorrow as I will have to leave tomorrow evening." He said and looked at three others beside me." I think three of you will also fit right in, I think there would many elders willing to take you all in as personal disciples." he offered to Wang Mie and others but not me.

Just as he said that a jade talisman in his hand started glowing. " There is some official sect matters I have to attend to , we will talk tomorrow." Ning Rong wanted to say something but we were all dismised.

As we were going to our rooms Wang Mie tagged along with Rong and me .

"Feng'er why don't you reveal your formation talent , any sect would take you in as a core disciple , it would be a shame if you missed an oppurtunity like this." She said with too much familiarity, I scowled at this way of address but I knew she was doing it deliberately because of that smile plastered on her face .

What she said was right but I didn't want to be in lime light since if for any reason they discovered that my soul doesn't belong to this world , I don't what they will do to me .

There is no way I will put myself in such a situation unless I am out of options .

But in this case I did have some options .

"No, I would only tell them about my talent in runes to some extent." I will only reveal that I can create grade 1 runes , that should be enough to at least let me become an outer disciple, given the fact that I have a normal physique not spirit or special one.

"If you do that you will not even become an inner disciple , what's the point in hiding your capabilities." she said with a frown.

" I have my reasons , I hope you won't spill the beans." I tried to confirm her intentions.

"Don't worry , I have no such plans since I have given you my word." she replied .

"I will try to talk to Elder Qian, maybe he will at least promote you to inner disciple." Ning Rong said with a thoughtful look.

We talked some more before we parted ways with Wang Mie , I went to my room and started meditating, to recover my qi .

I have come up with a new idea to use my runes and formations .

After sometime I created a small formation with a pyramid structure, then I created a lowest level rune which slighly increases the temperature .

This particular formation had about 6 nodes, five at vertices and one on it's centroid.

The idea that struck was to use the rune I conjured with fire concept which is made completely out energy as a replacement to a node in the structure , I want to know what will happen .

This idea came to me when I saw the dome although it was completely different and only created a link between tablets and dome formation.

It inspired me to think in this direction since I have trying to think of ways to somehow combine the two but aside from some combinations with their permanent version I couldn't come up with anything else .

If I succeed would I be called the ancestor of this field in future by the later generation. I chuckled setting aside fantasies as I focused on present.

I moved my rune to the centroid position in the formation , but the moment I tried to move the node while inserting the rune , the whole structure collapsed and the reason was painfully simple all the angle calculations changed , since the rune have varying energy level compared to the previous node.

Damn it was such an obvious thing to consider but I was too excited.

I marked the position where I will sit and noted the energy readings in both my rune and nodes .

I will pre calculate every angle change and will try to implement the changes and it is only possible if I don't change my position too significantly in space since formations are very sensitive to that.

I spent next half an hour calculating and making some other preparations for this experiment . Once I was done, I conjured both of them again.

This time I carefully moved my rune at exact calculations and shifted the other nodes based on my data. The moment I did that , something weird happened.

The rune was doing some weird shit.

Chapter 36: Will I become an ancestor ?

As I watched the collapse of my formation, I couldn't help but feel a mix of frustration and fascination. The qi in my rune had intertwined with the qi in the pyramid formation, causing it to distort wildly. The rune seemed to devour the formation's qi, but it destabilized everything in the process.

All the nodes shifted from their correct positions since the rest of the qi wasn't supporting them. In the end, the entire formation collapsed on my rune, causing it to overload due to the excessive amounts of qi.

I was a little speechless. This was a bit too flashy and unexpected, and I couldn't pinpoint the exact reason. I needed to understand this better, so I decided to experiment with different types of formations while using the same rune.

This would give me a much better idea of what was going on, as it would provide data on the different behavior patterns of this rune with various formations.

I spent the next few hours immersed in my experiments. I tried simple formations, complex ones, formations with different shapes, and those with varying numbers of nodes.

Each time, I replaced one of the nodes with my fire concept rune. I meticulously noted down the energy readings, angle changes, and the resulting behavior of each formation.

Some experiments were uneventful, with the formation simply collapsing without much drama. Others were more spectacular, with the formation's qi violently clashing with the rune's energy, resulting in small explosions or bursts of light.

Each failure brought new insights, though, and slowly, patterns began to emerge.

I noticed that the interactions between the rune and the formation's qi varied depending on the complexity of the formation. Simpler formations tended to collapse quickly and quietly, while more complex ones showed more dramatic failures.

The key seemed to lie in the balance of qi and the stability of the nodes.

After a particularly long haul of experimentation, I sat back and reviewed my notes. The data was extensive, but a few key observations stood out.

The rune's energy was indeed causing disruptions in the formations, but it wasn't entirely random. There was a subtle interplay between the rune's qi and the formation's qi, almost as if they were trying to synchronize but failing due to the imbalance.

I realized that to succeed, I needed to find a way to harmonize the rune's energy with the formation's qi. It wasn't enough to simply replace a node with the rune; I needed to ensure that the energy flows were compatible and stable.

This required a deeper understanding of both the rune and the formation.

With renewed determination, I dove back into my experiments. I adjusted the energy levels of my rune, trying to match it more closely with the formation's qi.

I also experimented with different placements for the rune, not just at the centroid but at various vertices. Each attempt brought me closer to understanding the intricate balance required.

Just a single inspiration has brought me this close to making something completely novel although I doubt I would ever be able to make it a reality let alone use it in battle.

For that I probably need another great idea to make somehow make it as fast as possible.

Wait... I should also incorporate my fire concept in formation I am trying to merge, I forgot such a simple thing .

This should enhance the harmony and along with right shapes and number of nodes I can at least manifest it.

I continued refining my approach, adjusting the energy levels, and experimenting with different configurations.

Progress was slow, and there were many setbacks, but each failure taught me something new. I was starting to see glimpses of a possible breakthrough.

However, I needed more data and more time to fully understand the intricate dynamics at play.

But one thing was clear: I was onto something new, something that had the potential to revolutionize the field of formations and runes.

After I cleaned up my notes, I went to sleep since tomorrow is probably going to be rather interesting .

I couldn't help but chuckle at my grandiose thoughts. Being called the ancestor of a new field?

It seems interesting. With that sleep consumed me .

....

Ning Rong woke up the next morning .

After freshening up, Ning Rong made her way to Elder Qian's quarters. She found him in the garden, meditating under the morning sun. The tranquility of the scene almost made her hesitate, but she steeled herself and approached him.

"Elder Qian," she began, bowing respectfully.

Elder Qian opened his eyes and looked at her with a calm expression. "Good morning, Ning Rong. What brings you here so early?"

"Elder Qian, I wanted to discuss something important with you," she said, her voice steady but with a hint of urgency.

"Sit," Elder Qian instructed, gesturing to a nearby bench. Once they were seated, he looked at her expectantly. "What is it that you wish to discuss?"

Ning Rong took a deep breath. "Elder Qian, I am deeply grateful for your offer to take me as your personal disciple. It is an honor beyond words. However, there is someone else I believe you should consider as well."

Elder Qian raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And who might that be?"

"Ning Feng," she replied. "He is a prodigious talent in our clan, especially when it comes to runes and formations. He has managed to create peak grade 1 runes on his own, and I believe he has the potential to become an exceptional cultivator."

Elder Qian's interest was piqued. "Peak grade 1 runes, you say? That is quite impressive. However, my decision to take you as a disciple was based on your exceptional abilities and potential. What makes you think Ning Feng is deserving of such an honor?"

Ning Rong leaned forward, her eyes earnest. "Ning Feng's talents extend beyond just his ability with runes. He has a keen intellect and a unique perspective on cultivation. Moreover, he has demonstrated remarkable resilience and creativity. I believe that under your guidance, he could achieve great things."

Elder Qian stroked his chin thoughtfully. "You make a compelling case, Ning Rong. However, taking on another personal disciple is not a decision I can make lightly."

"I understand, Elder Qian," she said. "But even if he cannot be your personal disciple, could he at least be given the opportunity to join the sect as an inner disciple? He deserves a chance to prove himself."

Elder Qian considered this for a moment. "Very well. I will allow Ning Feng to join the upcoming disciple selection exam. If he can place in the top three positions, he will be granted the rank of inner disciple."

Ning Rong's face lit up with gratitude. "Thank you, Elder Qian. I am sure Ning Feng will not disappoint."

Elder Qian nodded. "We shall see. Talent is one thing, but perseverance and dedication are what truly make a great cultivator. I hope your confidence in him is well-placed."

As Ning Rong left Elder Qian's quarters, she felt a renewed sense of hope. She knew Ning Feng had the potential to excel, and now he had the chance to prove it. All that remained was to convey the news to Ning Feng and help him prepare for the challenges ahead.

Later that day, Ning Rong found Ning Feng in his usual spot, surrounded by notes and half-finished runes. She approached him with a smile.

"Ning Feng, I have some news for you."

He looked up, curiosity sparking in his eyes. "What is it, Rong?"

"I spoke with Elder Qian this morning," she said. "He has agreed to let you participate in the disciple selection exam. If you can place in the top three, you will be granted the rank of inner disciple."

Ning Feng's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? That's... incredible. Thank you, Rong."

I said with mixed feelings, I haven't really decided if I wanted to enter a sect of this level mainly due to my concerns regarding my soul.

Sigh.

....

In the quiet serenity of the Ning Clan estate, Ning Wushuang was enjoying a rare moment of peace, sipping tea in his study. The past few days had been tumultuous, and he relished the calmness of the morning. However, the tranquility was soon interrupted by a soft knock on the door.

"Elder Qian is here to see you, Clan Leader," a servant announced.

Ning Wushuang quickly composed himself, setting his tea aside. "Please, show him in."

Elder Qian entered the study with his usual composed demeanor, his presence commanding respect. Ning Wushuang rose to greet him, bowing slightly. "Elder Qian, it is an honor to have you here. Please, sit."

"Thank you, Ning Wushuang," Elder Qian replied, taking a seat opposite the clan leader. "I wanted to discuss a few matters with you."

"Of course," Ning Wushuang said, leaning forward attentively. "What brings you to our humble estate today?"

Elder Qian smiled slightly. "First, I wanted to inform you about a request made by Ning Rong. She approached me this morning and spoke highly of a young member of your clan, Ning Feng. She requested that he be given a chance to join the Heaven Dao Sect."

Ning Wushuang's eyes widened in surprise. "Ning Feng? He is indeed a talented young man, particularly skilled in runes . What did you decide, Elder?"

"I have agreed to let Ning Feng participate in the upcoming disciple selection exam," Elder Qian explained. "If he places in the top three, he will be granted the rank of inner disciple."

Ning Wushuang's face lit up with gratitude. "That is wonderful news. Thank you, Elder Qian. Ning Feng has great potential, and this opportunity will mean a lot to him and our clan."

Elder Qian nodded. "We shall see if he can live up to the expectations. Talent alone is not enough; perseverance and dedication are equally important."

"Indeed," Ning Wushuang agreed. "We will do our best to prepare him for the challenges ahead."

Elder Qian then shifted the conversation. "Now, let us discuss the Jade Immortal Abode. As you know, it is set to open in roughly two years. This is a significant event, and the Heaven Dao Sect has high expectations."

Ning Wushuang nodded solemnly. "Yes, we have been preparing for this. The Jade Immortal Abode is a rare opportunity."

"The Heaven Dao Sect has decided that the Ning Clan will be responsible for providing cultivators to maintain order on our behalf," Elder Qian continued. "It is a great responsibility, but also a testament to the trust the sect places in your clan."

Ning Wushuang felt a surge of pride. "We are honored by the sect's trust. We will not disappoint."

Elder Qian smiled approvingly. "You will have five spots for children the sect has selected. These spots are precious, and the chosen ones must be prepared for the ordeal ahead. The Jade Immortal Abode is not just an opportunity; it is a trial that will test their very limits."

Ning Wushuang's eyes widened slightly. "Five spots? That is more than we expected. Thank you, Elder Qian. We will ensure that the selected children are well-prepared."

"These children are indeed precious, even to the sect," Elder Qian said. "But they must go through this ordeal. It is a crucial part of their growth.

On second thought, if Ning Feng decides to go in and survives and proves himself worthy, I will personally accept him as an inner disciple."

Ning Wushuang bowed deeply, his gratitude evident. "We are deeply grateful, Elder Qian. This is a great honor for Ning Feng and our entire clan."

Elder Qian stood, signaling the end of their conversation. "Ensure that your clan is prepared. The coming years will be challenging, but also filled with opportunities. I look forward to seeing the results."
