Safiya watched as her mother took a few steps back, shaking her head vigorously as if she couldn't believe what Safiya had just said, as if she hadn't heard her at all."
"Papa," Safiya whispered, "deserved justice, Mama. He deserved so much more than being killed as if his life meant nothing. I know deep down in your heart, you feel that what I'm saying is true. There is more to Papa's death, I believe." She bit her tongue, her voice shaking as she watched her mother appear shocked.
"I'm sorry, Mama, but I have to do this," Safiya added, taking a few steps back.
"Safiya," her mother whispered, "don't... please, don't."
"Mama," Safiya whispered once more, her steps slowly retreating from the room, "I'm sorry." With a heavy heart, she turned towards the door, a single tear tracing a delicate path down her cheek as she walked out.
