Ife stood by her window, watching the guards at the palace field. They stood on the green grass, clashing their swords, breathing heavily under the scorching sun.
Her gaze keenly watched them as if they were her main focus, when in fact her mind was occupied with something else.
What was this feeling? Why did it keep nagging at her that Meka was innocent of the crime she was accused of? This was her father who had been killed, and a dagger with bloodstains on it was found in Meka's luggage. So why couldn't she bring herself to accuse her?
Ife held her head, which was beginning to throb. What was really going on? After the chaos at the coronation, something strange seemed to be happening. The deaths of her father and the king of Dakar seemed mysterious.
"Meka couldn't possibly have killed the king, right?" she whispered to herself. "No, no, you should believe what you have seen," she assured herself.
