"No questions? that's fine."
after an hour driving in a quiet car, we finally arrived on a farm outside the City.
We got a tour around. at the end we arrived at a barn for the machines. "this is where the harvesters are stored. The locations of fields that has to be harvested are being send directly to the harvesters. everyone who knows how to use one can begin now. everyone else follow me."
Inside there are 12 harvesters and 8 empty places. the others are already working.
each parking space has a number and every harvester has the same number for identification.
from our group, 2 went on there own way and started harvesting. I and someone else followed Rex to the nearest harvester.
The Harvester doesn't have wheels, but can hover. The steering is like a car. only that there is a lever for the height and a joystick that you can use when you want to slide left and right. the lever has a green marking. that's the optimal cutting height.
with that everyone chose a harvester and started.
I took the one with the number 4.
after arriving at my field I saw plants that look like 5 meter high sweet corn. I started the harvesting. at a speed of 60 km/h it felt like it started struggling cutting. so I slowed to a speed of 50 km/h and went on my way. constantly harvesting and unloading. when I looked at the field next to me I saw a smoking harvester. the harvesters knifes where full of sweet corn. next to the harvester was one of our group that didn't listen to the instruction and Rex that screamed at him.
what I could understand was, that he drove to fast.
when It was dinner a group of Kroganer wanted to talk to rex. I hid in our group in a way that they couldn't see me.
After dinner Rex called me over. he first asked: "You had used Harvester 4 didn't you?"
"Yeah. What about it?"
"Well, there is a rumor a human survived entering the atmosphere and now the Kroganers of Grogus group wants me to look out for any human. I first thought you are a Andrinener that likes these looks. but now? You are showing good results this morning. So I didn't told them about you."
If he knows about me I am totally relying on him and his promise that he protects me. For now it should work, but I have to find a backup plan, if he gets pressured too much. I should turn his threshold higher.
"You are right. I am the person they are looking for. I chose to work for you so I have a hiding place that's not related to me. Since you know about it now I would pay you so I can continue staying here. Does 1000 Etran a day sounds okay?"
After a short pause Rex had a Greedy smile and said: "How about 5000 Etran a day and I will not even tell other organizations."
I thought about haggling, but Rex could bring me on a silver tablet to Grogus. I don't want to risk it.
After a tired exhale I said "fine. we can make the transaction while everyone gets the 1 Etran I will pay 5000 Etran. then no one will get suspicious."
"thats a great Idea. but the First transaction has do be done now." while he took out his Phone.
to insure that he knows I have money I paid with my black card.
While paying, he had a slight twitch in his eyebrow. He has a good pokerface, but not a perfect one. He probably thinks he could have gotten more. I hope he doesn't cause trouble to get more.
have I just raised a flag? I hope not.
afterwards everyone continued with there job. the next morning someone of the Taurus Merchant Group met with Rex. this time he didn't let them inside and risk it seeing me.
In this night my body started pulsing and I felt like I would explode. I hold my phone like a watch to scan my vitalities. It says my Blood pressure is too high. so I remembered Micheal saying, that I have to regularly release blood, because of the modifications to my body. I took a knife and a clean towel from the kitchen and went into the next field until nobody saw me. I took the knife and carefully cut into my right arm. the Blood burst like a balloon. I felt the pressure is going down. With my phone I checked when a safe blood pressure is reached. when it did I pressed the towel on the wound. while waiting I looked at the ground. I lost at least over a Liter of Blood. After 15 min. the Wound has healed itself. I took the other side of the towel and cleaned the knife. When I was back I placed the towel in the disintegrator. the machine went into such a high overdrive that flames came out for a second. afterwards I printed a new Towel and placed everything back.
the next 5 days went quiet. But on the 6 day. there Was a unit of the Law Enforcers here. Looks like Rex has connections into the government, because they ignored the fact that there are working people without it being documented by the city. It is obvious that they knew it.
Even in such a modern civilization there is corruption.
After they left he said: "The Government?! haaa. A deal is a deal. so you don't have to worry."
Looks like he is a man of his words.
afterwards I went back to work. While harvesting I thought about the Backup plan. While my thoughts wandered about possible ways to hide. My thoughts went to maybe the crowd doesn't need to be humans. I looked around and saw all those fields. I could dig a bunker inside one of those fields and no one would notice. the hole wouldn't cave in because every farming tool is hovering over the fields. After my work ended I took a shovel and go into one of the fields that has very young sweet corn, that is still over 2 Meters high. at the corner I turned out of the streets into the fields I placed a Square Rock.
After 100 steps into the Field I started digging. I made sure to not damage the sweetcorn, so I can later plant them onto the cover.
over the next 5 days I got the hole big enough to have a full room and a 3 meter thick roof.
While digging, I also finished the cover and reinforced the insides to insure that it doesn't cave in.
I even furnished the room like my old room on earth. but here is no electricity and the shelves are empty. In one corner there I build a station to safely extract my Blood. I already got 3 Liters.
