"Did you guys here about the attack on the Enforcers a couple days ago?" Tessa asks.
"Tess, we're in the library," Val tries to dismiss her. Violet smacks him on the head before talking. "Yeah, apparently members of the Phantom Mafia raided a government compound and stole some information about the Enforcers and burned it down. The sole survivors were the Commander of the Enforcers and one of his successors. And even so they had serious injuries."
Chase joined the discussion, "The weirdest thing is that they said a new member of the Phantom Mafia was influential in the outcome of the whole incident. Reports say he could manipulate the laws of physics or something."
"Glitch." I said.
All eyes were now on me. "People online have been calling him Glitch, the name kinda stuck," I said.
The conversation moved on and I pondered why I even spoke up in the first place. It's not like I was planning on being Glitch again.
Okay I'm getting really sick of this secret identity bullshit.
"Hey, Elliott."
I quickly turn around to see Josh. Isaac was also with him but right now I was focused on Josh.
"Josh!? Why? How? You're here. In school." I said, instantly cursing at my awkwardness. Josh laughed at me, "I just transferred here, boss's orders. Figured I'd come over since your the only one I know here besides Isaac. So, you going to introduce me to your friends?"
I got up to stand next to him. "I'd like you to meet, Violet, Valentino, Chase, Tessa, Marshall and James, and guys I'd like you to meet..." I awkwardly introduced while pointing at everyone I named. Josh smiled. "Nice to finally meet you guys. I'm Josh, I'm Elliott's boyfriend," He said as if it meant nothing. I was so shocked that I couldn't even force a sound out. Luckily my friends had me covered.
"WHAT!?" They all basically screamed in unison. We were all kicked out of the library after that and went to to a far off area on campus under tree cover.
"Can you please explain what the hell he meant when he said he was your boyfriend." Val demanded. "What else would it mean?" Josh sheepishly asked. "Guys calm down. He's... telling the truth. We're dating. I'm, uh, I'm bisexual." I decided to play along.
Josh and I had been texting since the mission and he had asked me to go along with whatever he said the next time we met, at the time I didn't think much of it but now I regretting saying yes.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Chase asked. "Well... we only recently started dating and I was still figuring out my sexuality and stuff." I said slightly blushing because that last part was technically true. "Dude, congratulations, we're happy for you but if he ever hurts you I'll kill him." Jay says. Everyone says their share of congratulations and threats and before leaving us.
Once only Josh and Isaac remained I went off.
"What the fuck!"
They both just laughed at me. I looked around to make sure nobody was around and luckily there was no soul in sight considering school was over. I used my powers to slam Josh against the tree behind him. It wasn't enough to kill him but just enough to sting.
"Ok, I deserve that..." Josh said with a whimper as he layed down on the ground. "You've gotten good at controlling your powers," Isaac pointed out. "I've had some... help. Don't change the subject, Josh, you have exactly one minute to explain yourself before I use you as target practice," I said. He laughed and proceeded to sit up, "As I said, I'm here because of the boss's orders. He wants me to keep an eye on you and I get to do that whichever way I want, and I've never dated a guy before so I figured why not. After our mission he's deemed you too valuable to lose therefore he wants you to join us permanently, even if you don't make a deal." He said.
As pissed as I still was I found this to be my opportunity to get some information. "What are the deals anyway?" I asked and both their faces dropped with hesitation to answer.
"The deals are like signing a binding contract without it being physically present. Whatever the conditions of the of the contract are must be followed through or else something very terrible can happen. I've seen it happen to many people in the past which is why you have to be careful when making a deal with Aiden. My contract with him was and is the full control of my powers in return for total obedience." Josh said, pressing his knees to his chest and his face an indescribable expression.
"Mine was slightly different. I made a contract that gave me my freedom from the past life and in return I became Aiden's plaything, literally. Anything he wants from me, or do to me, he gets to. Believe it or not but compared to how I lived before, my current situation is better." Isaac said. "Sorry for dragging you into this mess."
"It's fine..." I said.
I had wanted to snap at him for all that was happening but I couldn't anymore. I felt pity for them, and I had more reason not to trust Aiden.
We then left our current position and left the school grounds. I went to the parking lot while Josh and Isaac went elsewhere. Just by the empty the parking lot stood Marshall, I assumed waiting for me.
"Can we talk for a minute?" He asked.
I nodded as I was now standing Infront of him. "You have a boyfriend." He said along with a forced laugh. I just stared at him, no saying anything. "Sorry, it's just given your family hating gays and all I'm curious how that's going to work out," he continued. I'd end up dead or worse if they find out I have powers too. "Is that all you wanted to say?" I asked. "I'm just checking up on you, aren't you the one that always told me not to shut you out?" He said in slightly harsher tone.
"That was before I stopped caring," I spat out. He scoffed, "If that was true you wouldn't have stopped me from drinking at Heather's party." He wasn't wrong but I wanted him to be. "Do you remember what you said? It still rings in the back of my head. You know I regret everything from that night, I'm sorry." He said as his voice softened.
Here we go again.
I just want to forget about all the moments were he sat there fucking up the pieces of my mind. I don't want to be the one that his scars are always leaning on. Just a puppet he can string along, and every time I see it coming. I couldn't take it anymore, so I let go.
"Fuck your sorrys! This is the end. I bet you hate me, but I hate you more! You left my heart in pieces on your bedroom floor. You called me crazy for walking out that fucking door. You tried to change me, put me under your control. Well, this is fuck you, goodbye and I won't let you ruin my life!"
