Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Stolen Gift

The winding alleys of the slums were alive with whispers of hope and despair. Amidst the looming shadows, Arthur navigated the labyrinthine pathways with a sense of urgency that set his heart racing. He had honed his survival skills in these unforgiving streets, and tonight, he carried a secret that could change everything.

At just fifteen, Arthur's piercing blue eyes held a wisdom far beyond his years. He scanned his surroundings with vigilance, the grime-streaked strands of his unruly brown hair framing a face marked by resilience. His ragged clothes clung to his wiry frame, but his eyes sparkled with an intelligence that set him apart.

Arthur had learned to pick locks, scale walls, and move through the shadows undetected. His nimble fingers could extract valuables from seemingly empty pockets, and his mind was a treasure trove of knowledge gleaned from discarded books and whispered tales of the world beyond.

In the slums, resilience was the greatest asset, and freedom was the ultimate prize. Arthur would do anything to protect it.

Tonight, beneath the flickering neon lights, Arthur found himself in a hidden corner of the slums, desperately seeking refuge from the relentless pursuit of the enigmatic and cool-headed young master he had dared to steal from.

"Find that thieving scoundrel. Quietly," the young master's voice, mysterious and calm, barely carried through the narrow alleyways.

"He couldn't have gone far, my lord. We'll track him down discreetly," one of the pursuers replied, his tone a mixture of obedience and apprehension.

As Arthur prepared to make his escape, he heard the distant baying of a hunting dog. Panic surged through him, and he quickened his pace, the river's edge coming into view. But the relentless pursuit had brought them too close. The hound's powerful nose led the pursuers to his hiding place, and they closed in near the riverside, capturing Arthur in a heart-pounding moment of desperation.

"He can't be far. Keep your eyes peeled." Said by one of the persuer.

"The young master wants him caught alive. Be careful." His comrade replied.

Meanwhile, as Arthur edged closer to the river, panic coursed through his veins.

'I can't let them catch me. This is my only chance.'

With a desperate leap, he tried to make it to the river, but he slipped on the wet ground and fell into the icy waters, the rush of the current carrying him away.

In his panicked scramble, he bumped his head on a submerged rock, a sharp, searing pain shooting through him. He struggled to stay afloat, but blood began to flow from the wound, swirling ominously into the dark water.

The blood loss took its toll swiftly, and as the river's relentless current carried him away, Arthur's vision blurred, his consciousness waning. The world around him faded to black as he slipped into unconsciousness, at the mercy of the unforgiving river's flow.

In the dim light of the alley, the pursuers noticed the traces of blood on the ground where Arthur had slipped. Their voices hushed in concern as they made a grim discovery.

"Look at this... blood." Said by one of the persuer with a tone of uncertainty.

"It's his blood. He must have been injured. And this wet trail... it leads right to the river." Answered by his partner.

"He jumped! He must have been desperate." Said by the persuer

"We need to find him before it's too late."

With growing unease, the pursuers followed the bloody trail to the riverbank, fearing the worst for Arthur, who had vanished into the icy depths of the raging waters.

The pursuers eventually reported to the young master, their voices filled with apprehension. They informed him of the bloody trail that led to the river and Arthur's disappearance.

"We tracked him to the river, my lord. There was blood, and he... he jumped."

"Is the stolen item recovered?"

"No, my lord, it seems he got away with it."

"Let it go, Search for the thief identity instead" Replied by the young master.

The pursuers exchanged surprised glances at the unexpected decision.

"But, my lord, the item—"

"What he stole is not important. What matters now is my dignity." The mysterious young master replied.

The young master's unexpected response left his subordinates pondering the value of human dignity above all else, even in the face of theft and pursuit.

"I didn't command you to chase him for the sake of that item. I did so to protect my own dignity." Explained by the young master.

The young master, whose name was Lord Cedric, spoke with a pride that was befitting of his noble lineage. His subordinates bowed low in respect, their earlier doubts replaced with unwavering loyalty.

Bowing low the lackeys replied in union. "Yes, Lord Cedric, as you command. We are sorry for doubting you."
