Chapter 6 - Attribute (i)

Grrrr!

The infected sniveled as they stared at the sky which had turned bloody red and let out a high piercing strident with agitated faces as if they were happy with whatever the world had done. Lazy felt it, he could apparently sense the difference in those walking corpses. These walking corpses were no longer the same as they used to be and it seemed as if the bloody sky had strengthened them even further. He can't imagine how much powerful these guys had become.

He had fought many of them in the past to survive until this time and they were conniving and brutal creatures that he himself had sometimes chosed to flee when he was encompassed by them, but this time round there was no fleeing and on top of that it seemed like these guys were even more powerful than the former self.

The walking corpses had more copious amounts of dead aura after that action of the world. They just reeked of death itself which was making Lazy's group to have difficulties in breathing in this heavy pungent air. The eyes of the infected were even more deader than before, they look like they were there yet not there at the same time.

In a blink of an eye, the walking corpses had already swung their claws while some of the others which were far behind either squirmed in the midst of their fellows to reach them or leapt to the air towards them. Everyone of these many walking corpses wanted at least to have a taste of their flesh.

Lazy Wafula squinted keenly at all their movements to the basic level. He didn't dare to leave a thing to escape from his perception. He was totally shocked to find out that although these mindless beings were attacking them haphazardly, all their moves were coordinated making it look like it was a single entity that was attacking them. All their moves had covered all their black spots and escape route. It seemed like if he got careless, he may be taken out by this single move so, he moved.

Just like a war veteran who had undergone a complete makeover after participating in countless battles, Lazy Wafula didn't waver because he knew that the moment he did that, he will create a flaw in his movement of which the world will be happy to take that chance to take him out. He was not worried about himself because he had revival chances, what he was worried about was the little girl on his back, he can not allow those filthy things to ruffle even her clothes.

Coldly and emotionless, he took a favourable stance which made him feel like he had became a part of the world and nothing can move him back even a single step, he was immovable. He swung his machetes in a disarray form. An audience might think that he was a complete novice when they see how he was wielding those machetes but to battle specialists, when his movements were observed closely, anyone will be awed by the impeccable pattern of those movements. Each move was aimed for a kill and it took the vulnerables of the walking corpses into account. A person beside him may think that he was simply playing with these walking corpses with no interest to kill them because unlike his fellows, his intent was hidden which fooled even the walking corpses that thought Lazy Wafula was going easy on them but when they felt the compressed killing intent on the sharp edges of his machetes, they were suddenly petrified but it was already too late because his swing had already made contact.

Heads rolled and many of the rotten appendages and skulls were maimed, but Lazy Wafula didn't look good about this even if his first swing had been successful. He had waved his machetes with an immense force and energy and such a swing was supposed to have deleted many of them but that was not the case here, these walking corpses were much reinforced than before. Their carapaces were as hard as stone. If his machetes were simple weapons, they might not have done what they have done, they might have only left a scratch on their carapaces or in the worst case, they might have snapped.

Wanting to confirm his conjecture, he calmed and perceived around him. That was the moment that his brows furrowed a little. He was right, the earlier circle that they had formed to protect their backs was useless against these beings, some of them which had leapt to the air earlier had managed to breach their formation. On his side, he didn't allowed them to pass by him but it seemed like that was not the case for his fellows. One amongst them had allowed one of the infected to breach their circle. That was not the only case, it seemed that his friends were losing and this was just the first retaliation.

In the meantime, the teenage youth was caught off guard as he was still gawking at the walking corpses while cringed as if cold water had been spilled on him. The walking corpse which had breached the formation didn't go for anyone else but this teenager who was in the midst of the formation because he seemed to be aghast, his attention elsewhere. Others were being kept busy by the walking corpses and they didn't have time to turn around and help him. The walking corpse bit his throat and the fleshy cartilage like a dog pulling out a chunk of flesh.

Blood splattered like rain to his fellows who were dismayed at the gruesome sight of one of them being eaten alive. The teenage boy didn't even got a chance to scream asking for help so that they might help him. The walking corpses swung their claws as they became even more agitated at the sight of blood. The survivers were losing out. Their tight formation was also on the brink of collapsing.
