As far as ability points go, this is a regret for Lann from Gaunter's world.
Lann attempted to search for a source of magical power among the Master Mirror's pile of treasures, but in the end, the gems he found were simply luxurious gemstones, valuable but useless in magical terms.
However, he discovered several runes that contained a small amount of magical energy that the system was able to detect.
But the magic in each rune was extremely scarce, and it would take at least ten of them to give Lann a single point of ability, and in total, there were only a dozen of these runes.
It should be noted that the value of runes is not the magic they contain, but the meticulous art in their manufacture and the human and material resources invested in their creation.
So Lann did not absorb these runes to replenish his ability points.
As usual, he kept one of the three ability points obtained from the upgrade as a backup and invested the remaining two into the sign. According to the previous plan, he opened the third-tier ability of the two signs respectively to obtain a new sign mode.
Add points - [Sign] branch, [Quen Sign] subcategory - [Active Shield]!
[Active Shield]: Alternative sign mode. Quen Sign can create a circular protective shield, and the damage absorbed by the shield can restore the player's life. (2/5)
A 360-degree shield with no dead angles that can automatically restore health, Lann even thinks it is more practical than the sorcerer's protective shield, because it can restore health!
The only drawback may be that when maintaining the shield, you cannot move quickly or attack, and your flexibility is often not as good as that of the normal Quen. For Lann, it was more of an emergency resource to withstand continuous area attacks that he couldn't dodge with his [Fleet Footed].
After unlocking [Active Shield], Lann proceeded to unlock the next skill.
Add points - [Sign] branch, [Aard Sign] - Shinra Tensei... No, it's [Aard Sweep]!
[Aard Sweep]: Alternative sign mode. The Aard Sign launches a telekinetic blast that affects all enemies within a fixed radius. (2/5)
After improving the Signs, Lann now no longer had as many ability points, so he could not continue improving his abilities, so the most practical thing for him now was to first familiarize himself with all the new abilities he had.
With this in mind, Lann turned his attention to Elder Blood's abilities: Blink and Teleport.
The [Dimension Travel] skill was beyond his capabilities at the moment, as his magic reserve was not enough to sustain it, so he would leave it for later.
First, he would experiment with [Blink]. All the execution methods were already completely familiar to him thanks to the system, and he only needed to concentrate to activate it.
Lann walked to the window and opened it. Before his eyes lay a neglected and untidy garden, which after a while acquired a certain natural charm.
Black Wind ran happily inside, and from time to time drove away other war horses that were approaching him.
And then, Lann's perception changed.
All colors began to fade, and the vegetation turned into different shades of gray; the only exception was the chaotic energy that spread out from Lann himself, showing him the places he could reach.
It was an extraordinary feeling.
Lann took a deep breath and prepared himself. With a thought, his body disappeared from the room in a blink of an eye.
In the next instant, his figure appeared in the garden.
Upon landing, he looked around. Black Wind was startled to see his master suddenly appear.
Lann smiled and walked over to pet his companion, reflecting on the feeling of having activated the ability.
He did not experience dizziness, but there was a brief moment of disorientation as he adjusted to the sudden change of scenery. Lann assumed that with practice, this effect would lessen.
The maximum distance was about twenty meters, enough to get right up to the enemy's rear in a battle. On the battlefield, it might be necessary to use the blink several times.
However, as the control of magic power continues to rise, this distance will definitely continue to expand until it extends to every corner of his sight and perception.
In short, the skill was extremely useful and perfectly met his expectations. Lann had even already come up with several combat strategies that could benefit from it.
Then, the second skill - [Teleport] will be tested next.
Black Wind snorted, as if he had sensed something. Looking up, he saw his master suddenly grinning at him.
Lann combed Black Wind's back hair and activated the skill to mark it with chaotic energy. "Black Wind, stay here, don't move, okay?"
The horse showed a look of bewilderment but nodded with surprising humanity.
Lann trotted all the way to the back of the manor, intending to activate the skill.
Does it need a little sense of ritual?
Lann thought for two seconds, then put his index finger and thumb close to his lips and blew a loud whistle.
He had wanted to do this for a long time!
[Teleport], activated!
A neigh rang out in response to Lann's whistle.
Lann's eyes sparkled with excitement as he looked around, but Black Wind was nowhere to be seen.
Just as Lann was perplexed, an even louder neigh was heard. This time, Lann paid attention, and discovered that the sound was coming from an unexpected place.
He slowly raised his head, and there, on the roof of the mansion, he saw Black Wind, restless, wagging his tail from side to side.
Black Wind seemed to be afraid of heights; his body trembled, and he did not dare to move.
The other witchers, hearing the strange noise, poked their heads out of the windows, surprised to see Black Wind.
"Lann, how did your horse jump so high?"
Lann slapped his forehead in frustration, and quickly shouted to calm the frightened Black Wind, as he ran towards a flat piece of ground.
[Teleport] skill, activated!
This time, the neigh sounded very close, right behind him.
Lann turned around and saw a huge black shadow running towards him with a pair of amber eyes filled with fury.
[Bang!]
Lann felt himself flying out.
...
After changing targets several times, Lann conducted multiple experiments. Finally, he discovered that before using [Teleportation] he could disperse the chaotic energy around him and then select a target within that range to materialize.
From now on, with just a whistle, his mount could cross mountains and seas to come to him.
However, at this moment, it seemed that Black Wind was not in a very good mood. As Lann rode, he felt like a small boat in the middle of a storm, tossed about by the waves.
At that time, they were on the way back to Novigrad from Oxenfurt.
From morning until almost dusk, the group finally caught sight of the gates of Novigrad.
"Lord Lannister!"
This time, the Eternal Fire guards at the gate greeted Lann and his group with a very different attitude than the first time. With kind and even respectful voices, they welcomed him, while sending someone to notify the Eternal Fire headquarters of his return.
"Mr. Chappelle is patrolling the city. I can take you to see him."
Lann raised his hand to stop the guard, who seemed overzealous, and decided to return to Temple Island on his own. "There is no need to interrupt his service to the faith and his duties. I will go to Temple Island and wait for him until he returns in the evening."
Along the way, he received the attention of the citizens of Novigrad and the believers of the Eternal Fire.
Returning to Temple Island, the first thing Lann did was to find Triss.
As soon as he saw the sorceress, Lann was eager to take out the jade statue of the Toad Prince.
After Olgierd died completely, theoretically, the black magic he cast also lost its effect. Lann thought it was time to have a serious talk with this foreign prince, as his savior.
But before Lann could do anything, Triss interrupted him with shocking news: "Countess Mignole is back."
...
Lann was stunned. He thought that this lady who had been pursuing her old lover for decades would spend some time with him after finding her lover. Could she have confided all her feelings for half a lifetime in this half month?
After seeing Lann's reaction, Triss shook her head and began to explain the details.
The reunion of the old lovers was an extraordinary moment. After overcoming a bit of shyness and reserve for half a day, the old witcher and the countess could not contain themselves, as if a lightning bolt had ignited an unstoppable flame.
Their enthusiasm was even enough to melt the snow on the top of Kaer Morhen.
Seeing the old man's second spring of life, the witchers of the Wolf School even began repairing Kaer Morhen Castle, which had been neglected for centuries, sealing the cracks in the walls, windows and ceilings. They wanted to ensure that the couple, especially Countess Mignole, would be as comfortable as possible.
However, the problem lies in the environment.
Kaer Morhen, it is located in a corner forgotten by the world. It is a remote place with a bad climate and steep terrain. It is a bitter and cold place.
It is a place where warriors are formed who do not blink at danger, but it can also harm a countess, raised in luxury and comfort, and now older.
Countess Mignole soon fell ill.
