"I just didn't think it was right to kill an innocent!" she declared, with her cheeks all red, and she moved away from Anthony, who had his head on hers; he even took a headbutt to the jaw.
"Ouch!" Anthony exclaimed, taking the headbutt from Emily.
"Sorry!" Emily panicked upon seeing that she injured him with her sudden movement, and she placed her hand on his chin. Anthony took her hand.
"Gross!" Lucca said aloud, seeing the romantic atmosphere unfolding before his eyes. He didn't want to have said that out loud, but unfortunately for him, the words simply came out.
Both of them felt embarrassed by Lucca's comment and even distanced themselves from each other.
Lucca, realizing the impact of his comment, tried to lighten the tense mood in the room.
"Sorry, guys. It wasn't my intention to ruin the moment. I just...saw your moment and blurted it out. Haha" Lucca began to nervously laugh.
Emily and Anthony exchanged glances before they both started laughing at the situation. After a brief awkward silence, Lucca broke the silence with a question.
"Emily, when did you receive the mission?" Lucca asked, trying to understand their system better.
Emily became visibly nervous and embarrassed by the question but still answered, "Even before we entered the academy." She revealed.
Lucca looked surprised by the response. He started thinking about how the system only revealed that information on that day that they were going to kill him, even though they had received the mission before. Then he thought of something.
"One last question, did you guys decide when you would kill him?"
"No! They simply told us to kill him at the camp! So we only decided we would do it on the last day because we thought it would be the best day for it!" Emily explained.
Lucca muttered to himself, "So basically, you enter the academy with a goal, to kill him at the camp, and the only thing you had a choice in was the right day?" Lucca asked, trying to see if he understood everything.
"That's right!" Emily replied.
Anthony was shocked by these new pieces of information they had just received and analyzed, "This person has someone inside the academy! But before anything, how did you receive this mission?" Anthony asked to learn more about her.
Emily and Anthony shared glances before bursting into laughter at the peculiar situation. Following a brief and somewhat awkward silence, Lucca broke it with a question.
"Emily, when did you receive the mission?" Lucca inquired, aiming to gain a better understanding of their system.
Emily visibly grew nervous and embarrassed but managed to answer, "Even before we entered the academy," revealing the timing of the mission.
Lucca's surprise was evident. He began pondering how the system only unveiled that information on the day they intended to kill him, despite having received the mission much earlier. Then a realization struck him.
"One last question: did you guys decide when you would carry out the mission?"
"No! They simply instructed us to eliminate him at the camp! So we opted to do it on the last day because we thought it would be the most opportune moment," Emily explained.
Lucca muttered to himself, "So essentially, you enter the academy with the goal of killing him at the camp, and the only decision you make is about the timing?" Lucca sought clarification.
"That's right!" Emily confirmed.
'So, the system alerted me to this because they hadn't settled on a specific day. Could it be that they weren't eager or consistently contemplating killing him, which might explain why it didn't register in the occupation data?' pondered Lucca, reflecting on the information he had gathered about the occupation system.
Anthony, stunned by this newfound information, analyzed, "This person has someone inside the academy! But before anything, how did you receive this mission?" Anthony inquired, eager to learn more about her.
"I didn't have much choice; simply, my parents told me to find a person, and it was on that day that I received the proposal for this mission. I didn't want to accept, but my parents pressured me to do so, as it was good money for the family. If I didn't accept, they would kick me out of the house!" she revealed about her situation.
Upon hearing this, Anthony hugged Emily and put his arm around her neck, and they stayed like that until they reached the fortress.
Upon arriving at the fortress, Lucca began to look around to see if Anthony's attempted murder had already spread through the camp.
But he soon noticed that the other students still didn't know what had happened, as no one looked at them when they returned to the fortress, and he commented to Emily and Anthony, "apparently, the teacher managed to handle things in a way that they didn't find out!"
"Yeah! I agree with you. If they knew, they would probably be here asking, and some might not stop staring at us!" Anthony agreed with the comment and added a few more.
"Phew!" Emily sighed with relief at the reactions of the other students. "I was really afraid that others would find out!"
"My group hasn't arrived yet!" noticed Lucca, not recognizing anyone.
"Maybe they are talking to the teacher, as she said we would go for the interrogation later!" Emily spoke, remembering what the teacher had told her.
Lucca and Anthony didn't even have time to respond to Emily's statement when a voice came from behind them. "You come with me! It's time for you to give your testimony!" a voice spoke in an authoritative tone, making it clear that she was not going to waste time.
They turned around and saw the teacher, and behind her was the rest of Lucca's group.
Upon hearing this, Anthony asked, "Where are we going?"
"I already told you to follow me!" she spoke again with authority and impatience for conversations.
Anthony even leaned his head back and widened his eyes upon hearing her response. But they started following the teacher.
Passing by his group, Lucca asked the group, "How did the interrogation go?"
"You have nothing to worry about! It's pretty straightforward!" replied Alice, noticing the fear Lucca had about the interrogation, trying to encourage him.
"Just tell the truth, and everything will be fine!" Ana commented, noticing what Alice had noticed before, also trying to give him motivation.
"Hey! You start walking! No distractions and conversations!" the teacher shouted, seeing that Lucca got distracted with the conversation with the group and stopped walking. She was not in the mood to waste time.
Lucca started walking; he even got nervous because they started walking towards the city. Noticing this, he thought to himself, 'Oh, crap, how am I going to come up with an excuse for how I found the group of Anthony? Think fast, Lucca! Think!' He began to get more worried with each step toward the city.
They passed through the city streets and continued toward the castle. As soon as he saw that they were heading to the castle, he almost went into a panic, more than he already was.
The group entered the castle and went straight to a basement, where they descended a staircase. As soon as they finished descending, Lucca saw that there was a person already waiting for them. The teacher said, "See these 3 doors?" She pointed to the 3 doors on the right, at the beginning of the tunnel. They nodded, and she continued, "Choose one and enter, wait until my colleague and I enter your respective rooms!" She pointed to the 3 doors and stood still.
Upon hearing this, Lucca chose the last door, Emily took the second, and Anthony chose the first.
Lucca entered the room and saw a table with 2 chairs on one side and one on the other side of the table. He realized that they needed to sit in the chair that was alone. The wait lasted about 30 minutes until the door opened.
Upon hearing the door open, Lucca thought to himself, 'From the time it took, I was definitely the last!' Lucca analyzed.
The teacher and her colleague sat down, and the teacher began the proceedings. "You know something! Of all the information I received today, you knowing that the murder was going to happen was the strangest thing of all!" the teacher asserted, thus starting the interrogation.
