Emily asked as she tried to catch her breath. Her throat felt parched, and her breathing was ragged. She had used too much of her power, and the rift was beginning to creep up on her. The sentinel part of her consciousness was also close to the surface.
Sara had driven as fast as possible, but this was her first car operation. She had only seen it in simulations and old movies before.
It was safe to say that Emily's condition had as much to do with her reckless and unsafe driving as with her spent energy.
"I am never sitting in a car you are driving again. It feels like this drive took years off my lifespan. But I cannot see the monsters chasing after us."
Emily forced these words before she collapsed. Her legs felt like jelly, and her stomach was protesting by threatening to vomit out everything she had eaten that day.
