The scavenger looked interested in Lea and what she had to say. Lea would use this interest to investigate more about this place and what was happening there.
From the power and freedom this scavenger had to move around, she had to be a high-class force member.
And then there was this cane of hers. It was filled with the rift's magic, calling out to Lea and everyone else. It was like a siren's call that was difficult to ignore.
