Chereads / The Blade of the Hunter / Chapter 18 - Legend

Chapter 18 - Legend

A village feast with Durham characteristics soon began.

Shire had seen similar scenes when he was young, and feasting was part of Loman culture. Every spring sacrifice, the people in the village will be busy, for the god Edwar, the god of agriculture, the god of the rain, such as the Loman gods offered sacrifices, praying for the gods to bless the year of good weather, most of the time is useful, but sometimes, the god will punish people's reckless actions, there is very little rain in the year. At that time, the divine officer would come forward, enumerate the SINS of the people, and the next year the festival would be more abundant, so as to try to appease the anger of the gods.

He sat on a hard bench at a table with men from other villages whose wives walked back and forth in the yard, washing vegetables, handling animals and cooking meals. A pure fragrance wafted everywhere, making him stir his forefinger.

Wild dogs and cats lingered on the edge of the yard, watching, afraid to enter. Normally they would have hovered at people's feet, waiting for bones and scraps of food thrown to the ground, but now they were too frightened to go any further.

Magnon picked up a bottle of red wine, pried the cork out, and poured a glass for Shire and the villagers present.

"To heroes!" He picked up the glass and drank it down.

"Uh-oh!

"That's great!

The people were very happy, and Charles took the glass and drank the aperitif. At once the villagers began to talk loudly about the weather and the war and the monsters, which made Shire feel a little embarrassed. He is not shy, but few people, not used to rambling.

The food is one of the best. A woman with a wide waist brought Shire a large country roast chicken, the whole chicken hair, bare, from the chicken butt to the chicken neck dripped a layer of rich taste of sweet and sour jam, Shire picked up the chicken, it was hot, but the Char belly has been hungry, do not care so much, hard bite down.

Spices were expensive and the poor could not afford them, so jam was used instead to flavour their meat, which proved to be very effective. Shire taste chicken tender, crispy skin, a bite down the whole chicken skin is affected, chicken taste is sweet, mixed with the raspberry sauce on the chicken, taste is really impeccable aroma.

These chickens must be diligent in exercise and eat all day long, because the meat is very chewy, very thick, can eat such a big whole chicken is simply happy, Shire hard to eat, chicken leg meat is very tender, chicken wings even more, the oil above was roasted fragrant. The villagers looked at the amount of Shire, are a little stunned, they received only small pieces of chicken, now can only look at Shire.

In the middle of the roast chicken, the women brought Shire a large bowl of mushroom soup, so thick that it floated with fat slices of mushrooms, sprinkled with cilantro and shredded Onions, and Char could smell the aroma from some distance. He kept eating, after all, it had been a long time since he had had a proper meal.

As he huffed his soup, Magnon asked, "Where are you going next?" How about staying here for one night?"

"Stay the night!"

"Rest for a few days." The villagers agitated enthusiastically.

"No," he said. Shire simply refused, "I'm going to the Ash-tree Hall."

"Uh..." People looked at each other.

The atmosphere changed rapidly, so that Shire noticed something strange, he put down the soup bowl, wiped his mouth.

"What's the matter with the Ash-Tree Hall?" 'he asked.

"Something big has happened..." 'said Magnon uneasily.' You can't go to the Grey-tree Hall now, my Lord. '

'Why? Shire was puzzled.

'It's the devil! Magnon lowered his voice and uttered the word "demon," quickly pointing to heaven and praying for the gods to protect him from the evil spirits of the void.

"The devil?" Shire is on high alert, eyes a rin, "You know what? Tell me everything."

"A 'thing' flew out of the Hunter's Chapel in the Grey Tree Hall." Magnon was terrified, "It is powerful, invulnerable, everywhere to kill, eat cattle and sheep, walking outside the lone person will be killed by it, too terrible, my Lord, you should take shelter in Durham."

"Yes, many people have been killed."

"No one dares to leave the village now."

"It's not safe even to stay in the village. The demon could easily kill an army."

"The Lord has doubled the number of guards in the castle." There was a lot of chatter.

A demon is raiding the countryside.

"How can..." Char frowned.

He knew that the hunters' Sanctuary held the demons they had captured, but he didn't know what they were or how powerful they were.

If the runaway demon is on the same level as the Blade Demon, the Grey Tree Hall is in danger... Shire thought of here, a tight heart.

"No way." Gladius was furious. "I am a demon! You think your little sanctuary can hold a Lord equal to me? You are an insult to hell. Correct me."

Ignoring Graddiu's complaints, Charles explained to Magnon.

"No matter how dangerous it is outside, I have a reason to go to the Grey-tree Hall. I'm sorry."

"Yes, yes..." Magnon nodded again and again. "You are strong, calm, and capable of dealing with demons."

"But don't fight the devil! If you meet the devil, you either die or go mad!" An old man asked Shire fearfully.

"Yes, yes, my Lord, get a horse in the town, find a way to the city early, and don't stop outside the walls." When they heard that Shire was going to the Grey Tree Hall, they were worried.

Shire held the glass slowly shaking, pondering how to deal with the devil, out of the corner of his eye noticed a young child, standing in the courtyard, has been staring at him.

'Who is he? 'asked Shire.

Magnon glanced at the young man.

"Luo Dan. Dan Locke of Durham, come here quickly, boy." Magnon beckoned.

"I'm not a child. I'm an adult." Luo Dan walked to the table. He looked about the same age as Shire, at most a year younger than Shire. He had red hair, blue eyes, a short nose, thick eyebrows and a wide forehead. It was said that the wider the forehead, the smarter the person.

"Why are you staring at me?" Charles took up the bottle and poured himself some wine, to taste the rich taste of wine, which is a thing that is unpleasant at first, but makes people crave afterwards.

"You stole my job." Luo Dan dared to say, "I was going to kill that troll later."

"The sooner you kill that river troll, the sooner you'll feel better." Char didn't mind. "You look very brave."

"He's a waif." "Poor Luo Dan," Magnon explained. "He tends sheep in the village."

"He's got some crazy ideas, brave Lord." Other villagers added.

"He's a reliable shepherd."

"He would use a branch as a sword."

Char mused that he was now alone in the Hunter's Sanctuary and could use some followers and helpers. Young as he is, Luo Dan seems to have the potential to be an adventurer. If Char is all on his own, rebuilding the hunters is nothing.

"How about you follow me?" "Asked Char." You can come with me on an errand, and you'll have a chance to kill a monster that's almost like a troll."

Luo Dan nodded excitedly.

"Good! I want to be just like you!"

Am I already a role model? Char thought it was a little funny. Anyway, it's good to be an example to others.

'Why? "It's dangerous. You know how powerful trolls are."

"I'm not afraid of danger." Luo Dan patted his chest, "I will follow you to the ends of the earth, when your squire."

After they had eaten, the villagers brought to Charles a pile of food, smoked meat, hard cheese, bread, etc., wrapped tightly in linen, and sent it to him, asking him to accept it, and he put it into his knapsack, which he felt sink a great deal.

"It's the only thing we can do." Magnon spoke earnestly.

"Let's go, I know the way!" Luo Dan is eager to try.

Young Luodan led Shire away from Durham Village, heading north along the way.

They came to a crossroads where the signs pointed in all directions, and in one direction Shire saw the words "Pea Mill", which was the place where eight demon hunters had met to hunt the Blade Demon.

Think of that day, like a lifetime.

"Who taught you how to play? You did a great job killing that troll! A few mercenaries used to come to the village, they were all domineering and good, and then they were all killed by trolls." Luo Dan asked.

Char sees no point in hiding anything from the boy.

"The devil Hunter. The devil Hunter taught me."

"Huh?" Luo Dan froze, "The devil... A demon hunter? Are you a demon hunter?"

"Yes." Shire touched the words of the Pea Mill on the road, filled with the scene of the eight demon hunters that night pledging to fight the devil to the death, "We give everything to fight the devil, we will go to the Ash Tree Hall and take over the Hunter's sanctuary."

Luo Dan stared wide eyes, eyes gradually fear.

"Then we... We're dealing with demons?"

"Yes. Don't be afraid, the devil is not..."

Luo Dan was startled, his body shrank back like an electric shock, and he ran to the direction of the village without looking back, taking three steps and two steps to escape, so panicked that he almost fell, like avoiding the plague. The people of the village saw Luo Dan ran back, confused and he said a few words, Luo Dan pointed to the direction of the shire, loudly shouted what, soon, the villagers quickly dragged Luo Dan fled into the house, no longer dare to stay outside.

The whole Durham village suddenly became silent, as if it were a deserted village.

Shire stood still for a moment.

Graddiu said proudly: "Look, no one wants to join you, you are a bunch of disgraced scum complex, we demons are too good!" Who dares hunt us? Even so, do you still want to be a demon hunter?"

"... That's why." Char said silently. "I have my heart set on being a demon hunter."
