Such a thing was unsurprising, almost entirely within expectations.

He had no way, no ability to prevent the situation from worsening.
These were all things the elder could not understand. More importantly, he knew very well he had no right to command or control these knights.
These were, in fact, knights loyal to the family.
In other words, as part of a violent organization, they must, and can only, serve their family with their lives.
