Su Yu was wounded on the chest by the creature, but luckily it wasn't too serious. As he scrambled up, he saw the green-skinned beast rushing at Ning Yan, and instinctively let out a scream. It was already too late to intervene, all he could do was muster up his entire strength and throw his wooden bat again.
With the whoosh of sudden strange wind, the green-skinned beast noticed Su Yu. At the sight of the flying bat, it dodged rather than risk withstanding the fierce velocity.
The bat flew past the beast and, unfortunately, struck Ning Yan's right arm, provoking a cry of agony. The force of the swing sent her reeling backward as if she were a kite without a string.
Su Yu was taken aback. He hadn't expected to miss the beast and strike Ning Yan, making him momentarily freeze.
Seeing Su Yu up on his feet, the green-skinned beast, acting like a menacing spirit, swiveled around to lunge at him again.
They collided forcefully. Su Yu attempted to wrap his left arms around the beast's neck just as the beast's left leg, previously severed by Ma Ziye, gave way with a snap during the collision. The green-skinned beast, unable to control its momentum, tumbled over with Su Yu.
Seizing the opportunity, Su Yu rolled atop the beast, reached out his left arm, and gripped tightly around its neck from behind.
The beast howled incessantly, twisted and writhed, trying to throw Su Yu off, but he kept a tight lock on its throat from behind. The beast tried to retaliate, but was struggling to gather any strength.
Black, scale-like skin began to form on the back of Su Yu's hand. His left arm erupted with special power, a monstrous strength that could rival four or five of the smaller green-skinned beasts. This power was comparable to the large green-skinned beast.
After such a terrifying burst of special power, the snapping sound like popping beans filled the air, coming from the throat of the green-skinned beast. Soon, green blood began to seep out from its mouth, nose, eyes, and ears.
Su Yu seemed to have gone mad, pressing firmly on the body of the green-skinned beast, with his feet dug into the ground and his left arm strangling its throat from the back. Suddenly, there was a hissing sound as greenish fluid sprayed out. Su Yu had used so much strength that he fell over, still clutching the beast's head.
His special power was too formidable, tearing off the beast's neck flesh and all, leaving Su Yu holding the green-skinned beast's head as he tumbled.
"Huff...huff..." Su Yu let go of his left arm after falling onto the ground, panting heavily as he lay on his back, his heartbeat as loud as a drum.
Everything that had just happened felt like a nightmare.
A black crystal the size of half a fist emerged from the severed head, then transformed into a black rainbow, which flew straight into Su Yu's left hand.
As Su Yu lay panting on the ground, he felt a fierce and hot surge of energy emanating from his left hand. The power from the large green-skinned beast was unlike the lesser versions he had previously absorbed, as it constantly swelled, pulsated, within his palm.
Sensing something was wrong, Su Yu let out a cry, clutching his left hand before suddenly smashing it hard on the ground next to him.
With a loud "boom," Su Yu felt as if his left fist had been plunged into mud. The hard ground didn't feel solid anymore, his fist had sunken into it.
Briefly stunned, Su Yu sat up. A magical special power emanated from his left hand, spreading like ripples throughout his body. The pain all over his body substantially reduced. Not only that, his severe wounds, astonishingly, were visibly starting to heal at a rapid pace.
Stunned, Su Yu felt the earthshaking changes happening in his body. He slowly extracted his left hand stuck in the soil, which had now completely transformed into a monstrous limb covered in black scales. With a mere thought, five claws around five centimeters long, emitting a faint white light, sprouted from the scales. Even to Su Yu's eyes, these claws were evidently sturdy and sharp.
"What...what is this..." Su Yu was taken aback, looking at his own black-scaled claw, feeling the destructive special power coursing within it. It seemed as though a casual swing of the hand could rip open the earth and shatter rocks.
A wonderfully peculiar feeling welled up in his heart. Su Yu raised his hand and focused his thoughts. The black scales on the back of his hand shifted and split open as a pitch-black eyeball peeked out.
Su Yu jumped, startled. The eyeball emitted a weak light that enveloped him. Then, he received a stream of information.
"Rank: First-Level Black Iron Warrior. Perception Eye. Rending Claw."
Su Yu was dumbfounded. First-Level Black Iron Warrior? Perception Eye? Rending Claw? What on earth was all this about?
He recovered quickly, looking at the eye on the back of his hand that was emitting a faint glow. Could this be what was referred to as the "Perception Eye?" Were the sharp claws he had just revealed the "Rending Claw?" And what did 'First-Level Black Iron Warrior' imply?
While feeling a mix of confusion and astonishment, Su Yu looked at the corpse of the large green-skinned beast lying on the floor beside him. With its head severed by Su Yu, it had long since perished.
With just a thought, the black eye on the back of his hand spun to focus on the headless corpse, and a new stream of information flashed through Su Yu's mind.
"Name: Big Goblin Beast, low-level beast clan, First-Level soldier. It uses its sharp claws and teeth to tear its prey apart."
Big Goblin Beast? Was that what the large green-skinned beast was called? Could this "Perception Eye" reveal information about others?
With a leap in his heart, Su Yu hurriedly stood up. The eye on the back of his hand turned once again, this time focusing on another corpse, a smaller green-skinned beast, and emitted a new batch of information.
"Name: Small Goblin Beast. Weapon: Wooden bat. It uses its bat to smash the skulls of its enemies, belongs to the lowest-ranking beast clan, Zero-Level soldier."
It seemed...
Su Yu started to understand. As the "Perception Eye" moved around, it began to reveal information about Qin Jiagui, Zhao Shichang, and other survivors who had just managed to get up.
Without exception, they were all "Zero-Level Black Iron Warriors. Other: None."
"I understand now...killing these creatures and obtaining special power makes one some sort of a Black Iron Warrior. I've now leveled up to a 'First-Level Black Iron Warrior', whereas they haven't, so they're 'Zero-Level Black Iron Warriors'."
Of course, after Su Yu released his hand, the special power retreated, and the black scales that initially covered his left hand disappeared. The terrifying eyeball that had initially appeared also vanished. Everything went back to normal.
Qin Jiagui, coughing and spitting blood, finally managed to get up. His injuries were quite severe, but thanks to the special power, he could already stand.
