Chapter 3 - Section 3 True Love

Jin Xin made a quick stop, avoiding a man at the front who was looking down at his phone, sounding his horn to express his dissatisfaction.

Seeing the man disappear like a lost soul, Jin Xin helplessly said, "Look at him, so engrossed in his phone like the ancients with their ancestral tablets. His death wouldn't be a big deal, but it endangers those of us who don't want to die."

Noting that Shen Yue was still looking at the golden building ahead, he carefully parked the car once he found a space, and finally said to Shen Yue, "You've heard of the saying 'Majesty of the King, a hundred evils retreat', haven't you?"

Shen Yue nodded.

Jin Xin couldn't help but ask, "then do you know this place used to be a live-target shooting range?"

Shen Yue didn't feel like nodding again, but he understood what Jin Xin meant by "a live-target shooting range"—he was talking about the execution ground.

Jin Xin spoke nonstop: "Decades ago, this place was feared because so many people died here and a lot of strange things would occur as a result. When Giant Li of Giant Industries wanted to buy land and build a building here, many people said that he would be disturbed by the ghosts here, and it could even lead to his family's ruin."

Sighing, Jin Xin continued: "But fate is really unpredictable; he hired a very famous feng shui architect, who designed a 'Majesty of the King, a hundred evils retreat' layout for the building. It's said that the placement of the building and surrounding business district covertly corresponds with the Purple Forbidden Enclosure in the sky, just like the ancient imperial palaces. This design secretly conforms to the Heaven and Man as One principle, drawing pure yang energy from the heavens. By doing this, Giant Li implied that the place was under heaven's domain and naturally could suppress all impure beings. As a result, Giant Li, thanks to this uniquely designed Golden Building, didn't ruin his family, but on the contrary became as rich as an emperor."

"You shouldn't be working in security, you should be a feng shui master," Shen Yue retorted.

Jin Xin laughed, "Although I don't believe in this. But there are too many people in this world who do! Look at the businesses in our city, how many don't worship Guan Gong? Those that don't openly, they slip it in behind the scenes more than anyone else! What business inauguration doesn't cut a ribbon, invites the god of wealth for good luck, and doesn't believe in superstitions? What about hanging a spring couplet for good fortune, or setting off firecrackers to ward off evil spirits? The security industry these days, some of it is actually closely related to the old feng shui industry..."

"Why didn't you park in the underground parking lot and take the elevator up?" Shen Yue interrupted Jin Xin's lengthy monologue.

"What's the point of going up from underground? The underground parking lot has such a heavy yin energy, it's really bad for the body."

Jin Xin shook his head, "We, persons of our stature, must enter brightly and directly from the front door."

"That's true, the car you spent big bucks renting, needs to show off under broad daylight. Otherwise, it's like a gorgeous night journey, not showing the aura of success."

Shen Yue nailed the crux of the problem, and took the paper handed to him from Jin Xin before getting out of the car.

The scent of perfume wafted toward them as two women, well-seasoned with makeup, swayed past the car. Seeing the robustly-built Jin Xin getting out of the Mercedes, they couldn't help but look.

Jin Xin immediately straightened his shiny hair, propped his arm on the car, looked over at the two beauties with fiery, piercing eyes, and bluntly said, "Hey beautiful, fancy a date?"

The two women's faces changed instantly, one of them berating, "Insane person," as she hurriedly pulled her somewhat hesitant companion away.

Seeing Shen Yue looking over, Jin Xin defensively retorted, "It's definitely because you look like a cop fishing for trouble, not because I lack charm."

Shen Yue shook his head, "The documents."

"Didn't I give you your documents already?" Jin Xin said, not understanding.

Seeing the somewhat helpless expression on Shen Yue's face, Jin Xin finally realized and got out the prepared tender documents from the car.

"I haven't even taken my documents yet," Jin Xin then defended himself, " Don't accuse me of being insensitive. We were running out of time. I spent all of last night renting the car and preparing the documents, I couldn't even manage to gather enough manpower. Actually, I was going to find another woman to make up the numbers."

"For what?" Shen Yue asked casually.

"People like us, carrying our own documents for bidding is too lowly, right? We should at least have a vase-like secretary. Sometimes, we need to put up a bit of a show," Jin Xin argued.

"So basically, while a newbie would appear to lower the overall team's experience level, it could also reduce our opposition's vigilance against us, making it easier for us to achieve an unexpected victory. That's why you wanted to hire a new female secretary, right?"

As he walked, Shen Yue said, "It seems like you really do take this job interview seriously."

Seeing Shen Yue was already walking towards the Giant Building, Jin Xin shouted, "There's no rush, you still need to change your clothes. Look at you, you're dressed so casually. Let's first go to a nearby brand store and buy some designer clothes to spruce you up a bit, don't let those snobs look down on you..."

Before he finished speaking, he noticed Shen Yue suddenly stopped walking, and he couldn't help but go over.

There was a mirror not far from where Shen Yue passed by, reflecting Shen Yue's somewhat unpleasant complexion.

In the car, Shen Yue kept an eye on his reflection in the rear-view mirror while listening to Jin Xin's chatter --- he never disappeared in the mirror, what happened last night?

Confused, he noticed the mirror not far away and again subconsciously took a look. However, he found that he had once again disappeared in the mirror, causing a shock to his heart.

He had anticipated this scene, but when it actually happened, he couldn't help being utterly shocked.

It was not an illusion - he indeed did not see his own reflection in the mirror!

"What's wrong? Did you see a ghost?" Jin Xin slapped Shen Yue's shoulder, noticed Shen Yue's somber face, and said seriously, "It's now past 9 o'clock. According to yin and yang theory, this is the time when yang energy is soaring, ghosts shouldn't appear at this time, right?"

Shen Yue frowned and said: "We are supposed to be a high-tech company, can't you stop talking about ghosts all the time?"

"Sure. So did your DNA mutate? Which nerve has gone abnormal? Are you under too much pressure and hallucinating? Is this scientific enough?" Jin Xin quickly changed his words.

"Could you see me in the mirror just now?" Shen Yue found his reflection reappeared in the mirror and rubbed his eyes and asked.

Jin Xin put his arm around Shen Yue's shoulders, looked in the mirror for a while, and finally said, "I see it, what's wrong? You are still as handsome and charming, just a bit shorter than me, quite a pity."

Even though his face isn't as fair as Shen Yue's, his eyes aren't as big, and his nose isn't as straight, being taller than Shen Yue by half a head was always something Jin Xin was proud of.

Jin Xin consoled Shen Yue and said again: "Nobody's perfect. Why hold such a long face? We're going to negotiate business, not attending a funeral. How about a smile?"

While talking, Jin Xin grabbed Shen Yue's shoulder and earnestly advised him.

He suddenly heard laughter, Jin Xin turned his head and saw some pedestrians looking at them. A couple was pointing at them not far away, and the guy even took out his phone to take a picture.

"What are you taking a picture of?" Jin Xin finally took his hand off, pointed at the guy and shouted: "I hate people like you who have to take a picture of everything and upload it online. You're infringing my image rights, I'll smash your phone!"

The man found Jin Xin a little intimidating and finally put his phone down. As he walked away with his partner, he said, "In broad daylight, if you dare to show off, don't you dare to be photographed?"

"What are we showing off?" Jin Xin confusedly waved his fists and turned his head, then suddenly froze, "'King Jazz True Love'? Shen Yue, why are you standing here in a daze?"

He finally understood why the pedestrians were so observant, it turned out that they were standing in front of a wedding photo studio called "King Jazz True Love", and the two men posing in front of a mirror outside the studio like in a melodrama was bound to cause a misunderstanding.

"Where else but here would place a mirror on the roadside?" Shen Yue looked at the shocked Jin Xin and said casually, "Don't look like you've seen a ghost, we're going to negotiate business, not attending a funeral. How about a smile?"

Jin Xin didn't know whether to laugh or cry and punched Shen Yue jokingly, "You always tease me when you find a chance."

Before their words had even died away, a voice arose beside them, "Would you gentlemen like to come in and have a look? Qixi Festival is coming, there are big discounts. 50% off on wedding photos."

Shen Yue and Jin Xin turned around and their eyes were instantly lit up.

Under the sunlight, a young girl was smiling brightly at them.

The girl was simply dressed, a white short-sleeved T-shirt paired with denim long pants. She had bright eyes and a delicate white face. A broken jade necklace was hanging around her neck, her youthful figure was well proportioned.

The originally somewhat glaring autumn sun fell on the girl, and became somewhat soft.

The girl's eyes wandered over the two astonished men and finally rested on Jin Xin. "Life is fleeting, if it's true love, even if you can't give this life's promise to your lover, leaving the most beautiful moments of love is still worth it. Don't you agree, sir?"
