The 5th Light Cavalry Division employed the Charlemagne Royal Army's standard town defense tactics but also incorporated lessons learned from prior drills. Thanks to their relatively thorough preparations, they turned Libramont into a defensive position that could pose a severe threat to the survival of an armored column in a very short time. Even felines, unaware of what awaited them, would suffer an unforgettable lesson if they recklessly ventured into Libramont.
Libramont is a small village common in the Ardennes Region, with a population of fewer than 1200 inhabitants, surrounded by vast hills and forests. The town's layout consists of strip buildings constructed along the main roads and railways, accommodating only horse-drawn carriages in its narrow alleys. Limited by the terrain of the Ardennes, there are few farmhouses and farms in the vicinity, though a number of now-abandoned holiday cottages do exist.
