Historians of later generations, when discussing the series of battles that occurred in the fateful May that determined Charlemagne's fate, often praised the Wehrmacht's performance to the skies while doing their utmost to belittle Charlemagne's side.
Admittedly, the "victors are beyond reproach" factor was at play, and Charlemagne's performance indeed left little room for rebuttal. But once one peeled away the fog of history and the "invincible Wehrmacht" mythos, it wasn't difficult to discover that those praised as "the most capable professional soldiers of the era" had their share of embarrassing and even laughable moments at the start of the war—some of which were simply unbelievable acts for the obsessive-compulsive Elves.
