The commanding shout of the ceremonial guard commander echoed across the dock. The band, which had been standing till their legs weakened, spirited up, wielding their instruments. Already, troops comprised of chatting military and political officials, representatives from the colonial government and workers, among others, were organized according to the departments, ranks, and physical characteristics they belonged to. All were arranged neatly by height and weight, like fruits displayed at a marketplace.
