The well-dressed crowd moves with the rhythm of the music. Luxurious food and drink that the common populace might never taste in their lifetime are heaped on long tables set with gold and silver tableware. A single silver plate or a silver candlestick could be sold for an amount equating to ten, or even several decades worth of living expenses for a commoner.
For the aristocrats at the top of the social pyramid, the ruling class, the sights and ambiance that the common people could never experience in their lifetime are considered merely a bit "extravagant". Compared to the banquets held by the royal family during major events, it still seems a tad shabby.
