Located to the northwest of KainaBum, there was a little village called Pati.
Other than a minor reputation for their wheat, there was nothing notable about the village. It had no specialty products or distinctive sights. Only houses made of mud, people who worked from dawn to dusk, and an unchanging and somewhat dull life.
The only thing that set it apart from an ordinary Charlemagne rural village was its conscientious lord.
An old-school good man who kept the taxes relatively low and refused to enlist troublesome or dissatisfied poor young men by flogging them with ropes. He never allowed them to be taken away to freezing, faraway foreign lands to serve as soldiers.
In these times, the villagers could not hope for more than a lord who didn't like to stir up trouble.
Yet, a dreadful incident occurred in this village – poor, undernourished, with no distinguishing traits – that threw Pati into the national spotlight.
