There are countless magics in the world, each with different attributes, principles, and effects, but in essence, they are just a more convenient form of technology. It's no different than using a water wheel to turn a grindstone, or using a flint to start a fire - both are techniques "involving surrounding objects". In terms of convenience, one must possess a certain degree of mana sensing ability and consciousness capacity to release a basic spell like "Fireball" to light up firewood, which is still less convenient than using a flint.
However, it cannot be said that magic has no practical value, and its wide application on the battlefield illustrates this point.
