A Panther tank slowly backed off the flatbed. Remarkably, the tank had not switched to transportation tracks and was still fitted with combat tracks.
The secret lies in that the Wehrmacht, through a large number of military exercises, had figured out a technique to load and unload tanks without needing to use a railway station platform. The practice was simple; in the open field, a slope was built up extending from the railway to allow the tank to back off the flatbed. This task was not difficult for skilled crew members, and the standard distance between the rails and the platform did not limit the vehicles.
