The young elves who had undergone strict military education rarely crossed any lines. No matter how deep their hatred for humans go, they'd never vent out on a 5-year-old human girl who hasn't done anything to harm the elves. That would be completely beyond their moral compass. This would only change under special circumstances or with explicit written orders. Actions such as violating and killing children, which were often seen in human/beastmen armies, were absolutely unendorsed by the elves.
Especially when there were explicit orders from the colonel, they dare not even imagine disobeying military orders and facing a court-martial.
