Perhaps in folk tales, there are heroes who challenge the gods, but the Church never acknowledges such actions and sometimes uses tactics like "inquisitions" to suppress and eradicate various indigenous religions and folk legends.
Now, not only has the Church turned against the divine, but it has also sat down at the same gambling table, on opposing sides with the Divine Agent, who has pointed out their act of betrayal and prophesied their certain defeat—this all bears a certain semblance to those recorded in the scriptures as having incurred divine punishment for their arrogance and irreverence towards the divine.
