The general public's imagination of this top institution for training Charlemagne's magicians is something like: aristocratic students decked in gold and silver, scholarly figures with profound knowledge, towering magician's towers, vast open lawns, and man-made lakes suitable for boating... in short, something akin to a holiday resort.
Such imaginations mostly stem from rumors that the academy is a place for "gilding noble offspring." Some parts of these rumors do match the reality, yet most people forget or are unaware that the original intent behind establishing the school was to set up a military academy to supply a variety of talents for the front lines. Cultivating the students' aristocratic temperament, providing a social setting for noble children, and establishing connections were simply side businesses. After a long period of peace, the school did start to resemble a breeding ground for nobility.
