Freedom, oh how many sins are committed in thy name.
These were the last words of someone about to be executed at the guillotine during the French Revolution. Proudly self-proclaimed children of the revolution, they were ultimately consumed by it. Their fate draws a sigh, and these parting words also inspire much reflection. But what the condemned did not understand was that with the right justification, any sin could be cloaked in sacred garb and carried out with impunity. This was not a problem of revolution or systems; it was simply the nature of humanity and society.
Especially science.
When science is divorced from morality, and serves a single purpose with all its might, the cruelty it can display is far worse than any religious inquisition.
