Like other similar gatherings, it was both a social event for high society and an excellent opportunity for the nobility to exchange various kinds of intelligence. Moreover, hosting the banquet also served to showcase the Governor's power and promote "goodwill and friendship."
Added to this was the completion of the Governor's Mansion, which effectively merged the celebration of its completion with the banquet, saving a significant amount of expense.
That being said, Roland couldn't muster any enthusiasm for the glittering Governor's Mansion that was ostentatious enough to dazzle any gold-spending tycoon.
