"Mom, what's Xiao Welfare's name?" The little girl tugged at her mother's sleeve, swaying and pouting like a baby.
"Um..."
Mom felt a bit embarrassed, glanced around, and sought help from Fang Ye.
Fang Ye, dressed in camouflage green clothing, looked like zoo staff. He smiled and squatted next to the little girl, using a friendly tone. "Little friend, this fox's name is Tangbao! Did you hear it say hello to you just now?"
The little girl was delighted and waved, saying, "Hello, little welfare! You are so cute!"
Tang Bao, the fox, ran to Fang Ye's feet, looked up at him, and made a chirping sound. It was the most cheerful of the four red foxes and not very afraid of people.
The little girl, however, had more questions. "Why does Xiao Welfare have a big tail?"
Fang Ye explained, "The fox's tail helps it maintain balance when walking and running. In the cold winter, the fox curls up and wraps its big tail around itself to stay warm. The white tip of the tail can also confuse and distract predators. It can even be used to smooth its fur and assist with cleaning."
The little girl asked more questions, including why the tail was white. Fang Ye answered patiently, mentioning how the white tip could confuse predators. The girl thanked him, but it caught Fang Ye off guard as she called him "Uncle."
After the tourists left, Fang Ye and Lan Lei entered the cage to interact with the red foxes. Tang Bao, the sugar bag, playfully interacted with Fang Ye, and it was noted that the fox was shedding its fur.
Fang Ye checked its health status using his observation skill and found that Tang Bao was in the molting period. He also gave advice on diet and care.
Fang Ye then approached other red foxes in the cage. Xiao Qiao, the silver fox, exhibited a mysterious and noble temperament and didn't react positively to Fang Ye's approach. The standoff between them continued as they locked eyes.
