Chapter 8 - chapter 8 : Saving the Joneses

Later, they were in front of the center building when the door opened and a gangster-looking man in a shirt came out with two men at his side with revolvers, the rest of the men behind had knives or blunt weapons.

Cal saw the gangster game their leader wanted to play on his way out and cut their charade short.

Cal: Your men told us that it's a retirement center and that you take care of the elderly but we suspect you of having kidnapped someone. Either you show it to us calmly and we clear it after checking or you try to play it goes very badly for you. It's up to you, we don't have time to play.

Guillermo: It's the truth, we take care of seniors here. But before we show you, we want our weapons.

Rick: These weapons don't belong to you, I'm the one who left this bag there when the walkers attacked me and I came back to get it.

Guillermo: He was in the street!

Cal: Even if that were the case, we took them first and they belong to the first collectors according to your logic. These guns never belonged to you and I'm starting to lose my patience.

« G, that guy with the sword is dangerous but his group is just looking for someone and to check if we are good guys. » The bald man said and they finally opened the doors for them.

Later, they checked everything and these guys had told the truth, Daryl was pissed for all the wasted time and Rick left them some weapons to better defend themselves before leaving.

Figuring that Merle went straight to camp, they headed back towards the car and on the way, Rick chatted with Cal.

Rick: These guys weren't bad guys.

Cal: Yeah, but they still attacked us for weapons that weren't theirs.

Rick: Hmm. Seeing them taking care of these old people reminded me of the people who helped me when I woke up. This man and his son took care of me, they think that the government has organized quarantine zones here and if they come, they risk finding themselves in the same situation as me when we met. They are in King County and I know the house.

"Okay, don't beat around the bush and tell me clearly what you want." Cal said as he stopped and placed his hands on his hips.

Rick: Please go get them there. My wife and my son, I have only just found them and they will not accept the idea of me going back. You are faster and more resourceful than Glen, you are strong and you are not afraid of walkers. Please Cal.

Cal: People also took care of me in my coma when this shit started. (scratches head) Rah, it's okay if you have a map so show me.

Rick quickly pulled a map out of the gun bag and told Cal where Morgan and his son Duane were in the county. Cal touched the card and all the information and understanding was assimilated.

"OK, I'll go," he said as he left.

Rick: It's going to be dark soon, you could do it tomorrow! It's dangerous…

Cal: That's none of your problems, buddy.

He walked out of there leaving Rick stunned.

Cal went to the construction site where he found a free and empty large volume van with its keys, he started it to leave. He stopped first to pick up a few things from one of the closed supermarkets that people hadn't been able to loot, including a large pallet of jam, a large cubic load of cereal packets and the same load of nearly 100 packets of rusks followed by 3 large bags of rice, several large boxes of packets of spaghetti and nearly 50 large cans of tuna, large jars of powdered milk, beef stew, vegetables or fruit perfectly stacked, 10kg each .

For what little room was left on the side, he stopped at a small residential area where he picked up two small spring mattresses before driving permanently towards the neighboring county.

It was already fully dark when Cal arrived in the suburbs and noticed the lack of walkers on the streets he barely looked around when he immediately heard a gunshot and drove towards the location shown by Rick.

He arrived home to see it being attacked by more than 50 prowlers while a black man was shooting out the window. This idiot was luring them in more and more and if what Rick said was true, then this guy was also putting his son's life in danger.

" HEY YOU ! IT'S RICK WHO SENT ME TO GET YOU AND YOUR SON! STOP SHOOTING LIKE AN IDIOT AND GET READY TO GET OUT, I'M GOING TO KILL THOSE MONSTERS IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE BUT HURRY! » Cal shouted at the man who looked at him curiously and he took out his silenced pistol to fire 17 rapid shots each of which hit the walkers perfectly in the head.

Morgan was incredulous at Cal's dexterity and understood that this guy wasn't joking. He came down the stairs and asked Duane to be ready to go out.

Cal had already emptied two of his magazines on the zombies and had done a pretty big clean up before drawing his saber to start decapitating them and with his physical abilities it was like cutting butter.

"THERE'S ROOM, GET OUT!" He shouted and The father-son duo came out of the house and went straight into the back of the van that Cal had left open beforehand with two large mattresses inside.

Cal quietly got back into the vehicle and leaving with them. They drove a little before stopping at a safe place not too far from the suburbs because he heard crying behind and it started to annoy him.

"Can I know what's going on?!" he asked angrily looking at the crying little one.

Morgan: Sir, thank you for saving us. Forgive my son, he forgot our photo album there and his mother was one of the dead you probably shot. Please understand it.

 Cal: Oh...I understand.

"(sighs) Fine, stay in the car, don't make any noise and turn off the lights. I'll be right back. He said as he left as Morgan called him several times in whispers before closing the van and doing as he said.

They calmly waited for almost twenty minutes when Cal opened the van and threw in a body wrapped in a tied sheet. He tossed a photo album to Morgan and his son before driving off.

They stopped somewhere in a safe area to sleep and spend the night before continuing to drive. He stopped to refuel at one of the stations before continuing on his way.

Morgan asked him some questions and he answered as best he could. When Duane said he was hungry, he allowed them to open one of the packets of rusks and a jar of jam to eat as Morgan thanked him.

They finally arrived at the camp and he parked the van near his camper van where he found Dawn and Lise sitting with blood on her, she seemed a bit in shock.

When she saw him, Dawn quickly walked over and hugged him. She had been very worried because he had not returned with the others the day before.

"Climb to the top of the hill to find the main camp, Rick is waiting for you there" he said to Morgan who thanked him once again before heading up the hill.

Dawn: You were right...you were right to ask us to stay and be careful.

Calvin: I wanna know, tell me.

They told him that last night the main camp was attacked by walkers and they were only alerted when they heard the screams and gunshots, they took their weapons to go help but he There had already been several victims including Andrea's sister, Carole's husband and many other people.

He asked them if they had anything and they were healthy. After confirming that the two women were okay, he took a pickaxe, a shovel and the corpse into the van which he carried on his shoulder before heading up the hill.

Once at the top, he ignored everyone to go dig a hole out of the way and when Morgan saw him, he ran to help him because it was his wife's grave and Duane helped them up

until they bury her.

Morgan sincerely thanked Calvin from the bottom of his heart and the latter remembered something.

He reached into his pocket for a silver pendant which he gave to Duane because it belonged to the little one's mother who thanked him while crying.

How had he recognized the woman's corpse without even knowing her?! It's simply because of the photo album.

When they left, Rick came to him to thank Cal he told him everything that happened here and Cal in turn told him what happened to Morgan and his son when he came to pick them up, both places had been attacked at the same time but it was more massive at Morgan's but Calvin got them out of there anyway.

He went to take a bath, he then ate something before going for a nap, Dawn joined him and Lise went to sleep on his bed, they were both mentally exhausted.

Dawn couldn't sleep until Calvin took her in his arms as she cried because one of the (unknown) kids at the camp was eaten before her eyes.

She cried in his arms before falling asleep from exhaustion.

In the evening, Rick knocked on their door to tell them that they had decided to move tomorrow morning to try to reach the CDC, Jim had been bitten and they wanted to find a solution.

Cal agreed and he went to see Glenn and the top with the others. He knew Glenn could drive a van and he offered him the chance to drive his new van.

In exchange, he will share some of his resources with him. Glenn could finally start sleeping on the mattresses again because there were two inside as well as sheets.

Glenn agreed and Cal handed him the keys to the vehicle.

The next day, they had a meeting very early to organize the convoy and Cal was put at the back because of the size of his vehicle but it was the best option and it even suited him.

Morales decided to leave on his own with his family because he didn't trust Rick's plan. Cal left with the girls to prepare "King" (he named the truck set up like that) to leave, leaving the others to sort out their stories.

The start was given and Calvin at the wheel of the truck let the other vehicles pass in front of him before following them with a perfect control of the vehicle while Dawn wanted to be in the passenger seat.
