Chapter 5 - in the cold land

The journey had taken a significant amount of time and Rose kept on wondering where they would be heading and when the horses halted, she sighed because she was sure that if they could move any longer, she would end up throwing up because she was not used to long distance journeys.

Getting down from the carriage, Rose tried to tame her hair with her fingers but it was all on vain because of the wind that continued to dishevel it.

"Sylvester, why did you stop?!" Andrea who had gotten out of the carriage asked while lifting her gown up because they were in a muddy place. "Madame, the back wheels are stuck in the mud."

"Do something to get this carriage going I should be there before noon. And you..." The lady turned to look at Rose. "Go and help him to push it."

With a respectful nod, she followed Sylvester who was busy pushing the carriage. With all the struggles and hard work, the carriage finally moved but when Rose was about to go back into the carriege, Andrea's words stopped her.

"Your company is no longer needed here. You can go back."

She had expected to receive poor treatment from the girl, but being left in the middle of some place that she did not know of came as a shock to her.

"Milady, I was assigned to serve you throughout your journey and back." Came Rose's polite words with her head bowed. If given a chance, she would teach this arrogant woman a lesson or two but unfortunately she did not have an upper hand in the society which was mainly dominated by vampires who devalued peasants.

Andrea's hatred towards people of low status was something that no one would comprehend and it seemed that today was Rose's day to face the girl's wrath.

Looking up, she could see the angry dark grey clouds that hovered on the vast sky which showed that it would rain in no time.

"What are you doing there standing like an idiot?! You should get moving and I expect to find you at home once I'm back." Andrea stated with disdain as she sized the servant girl up and down.

"But milad_" she did not finish her words because Andrea started to walked towards the carriage while ignoring her.

Andrea glared at the coachman who was staring at Roselyne with pity and without being told anything, he also headed towards the carriage.

Rose stood there while looking at the direction towards which the carriage had disappeared with pursed lips.

"Some people are much worse than the devil." Now that she was alone, she could not hide her anger and frustrations any longer.

The area was totally deserted and Rose who had never visited the place did not know where to start but reluctantly, she turned around and.statrted walking absentmindedly.

It did not take long before the cold raindrops started to fall from the sky. It started with a single raindrop which was followed by another and the next minute she knew, the rain had taken over which even hindered her vision.

The place did not even have a tree where she could take shelter and she had to curse her luck. "I hope that you rot in hell.!" She cursed with suppressed anger.

She was completely drenched from the tips of her hair to the toe and the shoes that she was wearing were now covered in mud. Some strands of her hair were stuck on her face and she made no effort to remove them from her face. She had gotten tired from running and her pace had totally slowed down whereby she was taking slow steps as if she could not feel the rain.

It had been almost half an hour since it had started raining and there were no signs that the rain would stop. Removing her shoes, she carried them with one her hands while the other one held the hem of her dress.

Walking absentmindedly, she did not realize that there was a small pool of water that was right ahead of her in which she slipped and ended up falling right into it with the front side of her body.

With a frustrated sigh where she almost wanted to cry, she got up with the help of her palms and picked up her shoes.

The rain intensity had started to reduce and Rose who was now used to it continued to walk while trying to wring her dress with one hand. She had not taken a long distance when she saw a carriage that was moving in an opposite direction and she hoped that she would get the one that was heading in the same direction as her.

The carriage did not move past her, instead, it halted and a man walked out of it. Out of panic, rose increased her pace and the man who had stepped out of the carriage smiled on seeing her quick action.

"Just how far do you think you can run away from a vampire." The man asked in amusement and Rose stopped and slowly turned around. "Raise your head." The man's words came out slowly out of his mouth and instantly, she raised her head and their eyes finally met. It was the king, after a short while realization dawned into her and she quickly bowed.

"Your highness_" Those two words came out of her mouth which were almost a whisper and the king took steps towards her. "Taking a walk in such a place..I must admit that you are a risk taker young girl."

He stated while looking at the girl keenly. Her hair was dump and so were the clothes that she was wearing which cung into her lean body which made her so alluring and the king's fists tightened at the sight in front of her.

"What are you doing here?" Though he had asked her a question, he did not seem like was curious at all."
