In Washington, the seasons change dramatically. Even though we are already in a rut and many of the trees in the street have started to turn golden, the meadow on the training ground is bright green.
In the training ground, in addition to the players who train regularly, there is another group of people who, although they do not participate in the game, are indispensable for each team, namely the doctors.
An NFL game is a complicated beast. Every Sunday, two head coaches and their teams execute every move with mind-blowing athletic prowess, incredible strength, and superhuman speed and agility.
"Widad! You've missed some information again! Can you be more careful?" Chief Medical Officer Eric said, dissatisfied. He believes medical documents must be considered as rigorously as possible and mastered quickly.
However, Widad is an intern still in college, making repeated mistakes.
"I... I would do my best. When she saw the angry chief medical officer, Widad's face was contorted with remorse, and she immediately apologized.
Since moving to the United States, she has fallen in love with football. She wanted to follow the game more closely and try to become a cheerleader at Yale University, but it wasn't for her.
The hope of cheering on players from near and far allowed him to dedicate himself to medicine. Despite this, her love of football has not diminished: she often pays attention to football matches and watches them when she has time.
She is currently on a multi-month internship with the Washington Commanders in line with her career. In itself, she is not obliged to work because her inheritance is rich enough to afford to sleep and eat peacefully.
That's why she wants to do what she wants.
Widad was pushed aside and quietly looked at the occupied stadium, looking a little lonely, doubting her abilities.
"Excuse me, can you tell me where the chief medical officer is? Thank you! »
Just as she was in a trance, a calm voice recalled her from her thoughts. She glanced over and saw the person talking was a tall, dark-eyed player with white skin. She had a good impression of this man, who had a different mood from the panic of the Commanders.
He was sweating profusely, and his clothes were soaked with sweat.
"Oh! Okay, follow me! Looking slightly troubled, she walks to the office with Shoya and gives him a bottle of Gatorade.
"Thank you!" the boy took the bottle and drank it in one gulp, "I'm full of energy now!" the boy shook her blonde hair, leaving her embarrassed.
Hearing the boy's praise, Widad bowed his head in embarrassment. The boy tried the mouth and said with a casual smile, "I'm Shoya. Nice to meet you, and thank you for the drink. »
Shoya... The name is quite unique. Widad thought: I wonder when I can talk to him again. We had to wait five minutes later.
"Hello again. The head doctor asked me to pass this to you and pass it on to the head coach. We have a lot of work to do in the field, but when you see all these documents, your life must not be easy," Shoya says, slowly passing the pile of paper.
"No, it's nothing. You helped me by bringing all this back to me, didn't you? My name is Widad. Nice to meet you. The beautiful Maryland girl said shyly.
Early the following day, Shoya arrived at the training ground early. He had been looking forward to this moment all morning. Like him, those who arrived early on the field wanted to prove they deserved to be starters in the NFL.
"Go today! I'm looking forward to your performance, and you'll be in the starting line-up!" Widad waved to Shoya and encouraged him.
Right now, the coaching staff has almost tested the backup players, and only a few have no reputation or game in the NFL and haven't been sent to the field. This play serves as a warning for every starter. No matter their background, they can be benched.
At that point, head coach Johnson ordered the substitutions. "Shoya! Replace Gardner! »
Shoya steps out into the meadow. He knows his time has come. As a rookie in the fifth round, the expectations around him are not very high, but he has confidence in himself.
Now, the players have a good impression of him. His eagerness to learn and dedication to training has made it easier to welcome players, but no one has to play with him for long as he missed training camp with a calf injury, so it's hard to say anything.
Before the game started, he nodded to the other players, "READY! ATTACK! After he received the ball, he turned around and handed the ball to the running back.
Defense officials seemed dismissive when they saw Shoya being conservative. However, they didn't let up and limited the run to 3 yards. Once the game ends, they return to position and decide on a new tactic.
He received the ball and ran to the right touchline to try to get the ball back to the running back, but...
After a wrong move, Shoya continued to move to the left, wrong-footing the defense. Seeing the field clear, he ran forward to the sideline on the other side, seeing that the decoy had been successful.
Seeing they were deceived, linebacker Philips rushed towards Shoya, who didn't even look at him but accelerated and threw him behind him.
"How is that possible!" The defensive player felt unbelievable that he had been dodged. The safety knew he had to do something. One chaser in front and one behind, no way out.
Just when everyone thought the action was over, a shadow popped up. The quick-as-a-bolt ball passed through the defensive players and headed toward the receiver about 15 yards from Shoya.
"It's surprising." Not only Roger but everyone, including Chase, was surprised. In a small space, he successfully drew two players and thus had the space for a pinpoint pass in using itself as bait.
