Chereads / Rebirth in the Other World as a Dragon / Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: I'll go first

Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: I'll go first

The stored food lasted the two fledgling dragons about two meals before it was completely gone.

  "Angela, Angela~"

The dragon's body pressed against Angela's, Karel cried out as he rocked.

  "Angela~"

  Hmm?

In the shaking, Angela opened her eyes.

She lifted her dragon's head and looked at Karel with a calm gaze.

Seeing Angela awake, Karel withdrew his claws and sat on his butt.

The left paw was placed on the deflated belly looking at Angela.

  "Angela I'm hungry~ Let's go hunting~"

"Just go down to the river."

"There's bound to be prey in that place."

"That's what my instincts tell me."

Karel's confidence can be felt in the confident tone of the letter.

But can the confidence of a fool be trusted?

There was no rush to give Karel an answer.

Angela's dragon head veered to look at the body next to her.

His torso had grown a bit, but it still didn't look like he was going to wake up in the slightest.

More than half a month had passed since his slumber.

Looks like we can't count on him this time.

This desert wasn't safe for fledgling dragons like them, and if she could Angela would try to choose to go hunting with August so that safety would go up a lot.

A tingling sensation came from his deflated stomach, which was protesting.

The dragon's head veered to look at Karel.

  "Okay, let's go hunting."

"Let's go to the river first~"

  "Yeah~" Karel.

Emotions running high, Karel crawls toward the mouth of the cliff cave platform.

For her, even a dragon had the confidence to hunt.

Watching Karel's back, Angela then moved to crawl toward the cave entrance.

The two fledgling dragons took some time to spread their wings and fly to the river.

While in the sky they saw no creatures on the ground.

  Landing on the riverbank.

Karel's dragon's head had just raised, and his crystal white vertical pupils looked left and right.

  No, nothing.

The footprints on the floor had a lot of new marks but they also looked to be a couple days old.

It's all dried out and cracked.

Angela didn't go left or right like Karel.

Climbing onto a rock, the dragon's head stretched out to look toward the river.

Many one-meter long figures were swimming under the surface of the river.

Surely what he had just seen was not an illusion.

There really is something under this river.

Looking at the size it didn't seem to be the last magical beast, it seemed to be some fish.

The dragon's head looked into the shallows.

The foreshore is sloping and the dirt looks dry and cracked.

Looks like a good trap to dig.

But alas, one doesn't have anything that can be used as bait.

"Angela~ There doesn't seem to be any prey here."

  "What do we do now?"

  "I'm so hungry~"

  The voice was feeble.

Hearing Karel's words, Angela subconsciously glanced at the white dragon tail behind her.

Sure enough her tail had stopped wagging.

The body slumped to the ground, and Karel didn't know where else he could go to find food in this deserted place.

  "Get up Karel~"

  "I know another place."

  "Hmm? Really?"

The lost Karel perked up all of a sudden as she braced herself for the dragon's body, her crystal white vertical pupils looking towards Angela.

There was a color of anticipation in those vertical pupils.

The white dragon's tail also swayed once again.

Look at Karel in front of you.

This guy really has completely forgotten what he said last time about the cactus forest.

Not the same as the riverbank.

The banks of the river would always be filled with beasts or magical creatures coming to drink, and the cactus forest would only have a few scattered herbivorous creatures scattered throughout.

And it doesn't matter if you don't meet your prey.

Isn't there still a cactus there.

  It's always filling.

  "Angela~ You mean there?"

  "Is there prey there?"

  "More or less~"

"I'm going to have a big meal ow~"

Look at Karel in front of you.

Tell this guy she probably won't cooperate.

After all, you're not sure if you're going to eat meat or veggies on this trip.

Well, let's not tell this guy yet.

  "Don't you ask~"

  "Just follow me and fly~"

  "Okay ow~"

Karel was so excited that she was willing to go along with anything as long as she got to dry cook.

Glancing at the highly frequent white dragon tail, Angela spread her wings and took to the sky.

  Karel then followed.

After flying for over an hour.

The desert on the ground appears green.

These greens are not a forest, but a tall, upright cactus.

  Hovered overhead for a while.

  Suddenly Karel's eyes lit up.

In front of a piece of cactus on the ground, a vegetarian beast is nibbling on a piece of cactus.

  "AngelaAngela~"

"There's prey on the ground ugh~!"

"It looks so big, I'll go first ow~"

Before Angela could react, Karel had swooped down.

  This guy~!

Watching the swooping back Angela had a bit of a headache.

Following Karel's swooping position, Angela instantly saw what Karel was referring to as prey.

In front of a cactus, a beast with elongated limbs, a tall body, and a somewhat flat back nibbled at the cactus.

It turned out to be just a desert pack animal, and the heart that was lifted slackened.

Desert pack animal a vegetarian beast that lives in the desert.

  A beast without rank.

Because of its strong body and docile nature, coupled with its flat back, many caravans traveling the desert use these desert pack animals to freight their goods.

To Karel, who was capable of fighting the Lion Scorpion, this beast with no rank was no threat.

  And...

Angela took a closer look at the desert pack animal.

The back isn't so flat and there's no sign of freight.

This desert pack animal should just be wild, not lost by the caravan.

The desert pack animals on the ground burying their heads in their food suddenly stopped eating.

Alert, he raised his neck from thick to thin and looked to the sky with eyes that seemed small compared to his massive frame.

  "Aang~"

The beast of burden opened its mouth and let out a terrified hiss then turned its head and ran.

By this time Karel was also almost close to the ground.

  She swooped at full power.

Now the pack animals run away.

It was obviously too late to turn around at this point.

  "Bang~!"

The white fledgling dragon smashed right through the cactus, its body rolling into a ball on the yellow sand.

  She, crashed.

  Angela: Σ( ° △ °|||)︴

  This idiot.

Mentally cursing, Angela's dragon head's vision veered to lock onto the fleeing pack animal.

Now that she could eat meat, she certainly didn't want to be going vegetarian.

  The body swooped down.

On the ground, the pack animals ran for their lives.

A dark shadow covered the fleeing pack animal.

Realizing that it was not good, the pack animal made a direct turn and nimbly changed direction.

Looking at the pack animal that turned the corner, Angela's gaze went cold.

The dragon's wings turned sideways, his body nimbly following the turns in the air.

The shadows covered the pack animal again.

The blue vertical pupil locked onto the neck position.

Covered in shadows once again, the pack animal continued to prepare for its old trick.

This guy pauses when he turns a corner.

That's when the best time to hunt is.

The pack animal's body paused for a moment as it prepared to turn crooked again.

  It's now.

The dragon's wings rose to the occasion.

Body accelerating, Angela pounced directly on the pack animal as it rounded the corner.

The immense force pushed right through the pack animal.

The dragon's muzzle, covered in white sharp teeth, opened up and bit down with precision on the pack animal's jostling neck.

With a hard pull, a large piece of flesh and blood was directly torn off.

  "Aang~"

Letting out a mournful cry the pack animal's neck fell helplessly to the ground, no longer struggling.

It didn't have the strength to struggle anymore, and fountains of blood were bubbling out down the large wound in its neck.

The ground soon eroded a red color.
