Chapter 9 - An untimely incident and activated

The young man exhaled deeply then lowered his gaze, thinking about what his next move should be and his mother swallowed in fear of what could happen to her children at the time.

"Kaio, we can't find someone like that, I am not strong enough, that much I can tell," Rivan mumbled, for he knew his current level better than anyone and Kaio knew a monster when he saw one.

"What's the matter?" Cia mumbled as she opened her eyes and she glanced at her brother, wondering what was going on.

"Take her and leave, Rivan," Kaio said and a smirk appeared on the person's face, that was standing there.

"You have children? Well, I cannot leave my job unfinished, this is your fault, pay the price," He said and Kaio's brows furrowed when he saw the guy raised up a blade.

Kaio rushed forward and kicked the guy in his stomach, pushing the guy away from his mother and his mother glanced at him as did the guy and he chuckled when he saw a piercing look in his eyes.

"Oh? You have got guts kid, but I suggest you get out of my way, do ou know what's happening right now?" The person asked and Kaio pulled back a little, knowing that at the moment, he couldn't fight the guy but was determined to protect what was his.

Kaio was not someone who would risk everything to protect the world at that time, as long as he was able to protect his family, he was not interested in being a hero, for he knew it won't take two seconds for people to turn against you, but he was willing to protect the innocent.

"We are being invaded by monsters like yourself, if I were up to me, I would kill all of you for laying a single finger on the people I care about, things like you, shouldn't exist," He said and the person clenched his fist.

"And who gave you the right to pass judgement?" He asked as he rushed towards Kaio.

Rivan created an earth wall before him, causing him to hit it instead and the wall shattered like glass, causing Rivan to flinch.

"At the moment, you cannot protect anyone," The guy said as a blue energy formed around his fist and he punched Kaio in his stomach, sending him crashing into the side of a car and he coughed up blood.

"Kaio!" His mother called out as she turned to look at him and he glanced at her with his vision blurred, for not only was he hurt, but he was also extremely tired form working and doing everything else as well, at his young age.

"Run..." He mumbled as he got up but before his mother could say anything else.

Kaio rushed forward, punching the guy in his stomach and at that moment, his eyes shimmered blue, causing the guy to cough up blood, as he sent him crashing across the ground.

"How is that?" The guy asked as he regained his balance.

"You move too slow, having a kid with no good ability taking such a shot, you are still far from perfection," Someone said and the guy's eyes widened as they felt an immense pressure around them.

"Kaio, no matter what happens, take your sister and leave this city, none of this is your fault, it's theirs and only theirs, remember that, sweetheart, I love you both and I am sorry, this is indeed my fault, I should have been there for you both a bit more, this city cannot be saved, don't try right now, please leave, for both of your sakes and don't turn back," She said with a peaceful smile on her face and when Kaio turned around, a ball of energy hit his mother.

At the same time, Cia looked and saw, they gasped as his mother disappeared in ashes with a smile on her face.

"Mom..." Kaio mumbled as a blue energy began surrounding his both, releasing a good amount of pressure and Rivan gasped as the enemies glanced back at him.

"I will kill you, all of you..." He mumbled.

"Let's go," The one that had just arrived said as he glanced at Kaio, who looked at him with a piercing look in his eyes as he disappeared with the one Kaio had punched.

"Kaio..." His sister called out as she tried to touch him and the energy round his body, grew stronger, pushing her back and Rivan flinched then grabbed onto her.

[System activated.]

[Energy flow corrupted.]

'What the hell is that voice?' Kaio wondered as he began seeing double and tears ran down his sister's cheeks as she left staring at her brother and Rivan lowered his gaze, not knowing what to say about what just happened.

"Bro..." Cia said as she approached him and he glanced at her then exhaled deeply as he thought about what his mother said to him before passing away and he lowered his gaze.

'Why did this happen? What's with this day? Are we just meant to....' He thought as he gritted his teeth and clenched his fist.

"We have to go now, Kaio..." Rivan said as they heard the roars of monsters, stretching to where they were and Kaio's body stopped giving off energy as he glanced in the direction of the roar.

"We have to find some place to stay safe for the rest of the night, avoid being seen by the monsters and we have to try to leave later, this bloody city," He said as he was about to walk past his sister and she grabbed onto his arm.

"Why? Why did this happen to us? Why did that happen? Why do we have to suffer so much?" She asked and he exhaled deeply then patted her on the head and she hugged him tightly as she cried and he exhaled deeply as he placed his hand on her back.

That night, despite the fact that he was hurting, Kaio had to stay composed to be there for his sister and ensure survival for if both of them broke down, it would only ensure death and Rivan sighed when he saw how much suffering Kaio had to bare, he had to remain the strong one.
