My alarm seemed to ring with an even more annoying tone this morning. The blaring noise rung in my eardrums urging me to get on with my day and to stop being a lazy good for-nothing. I managed to drag myself out of bed when I felt a sharp pain in my upper back.
It must of been the aftermath of yesterday..
''Hey Jake! Let's play a game.'' Alyssa declared way too loudly considering the fact we were in Maths Class at 8:30AM. The chatter of the class only barely drowning out the boisterous nature of Alyssa.
''Too early.. go away.'' I gruntled out, wanting to get that squeaky noise out of my ears first thing in the morning.
''No-no, it's a fun one. I call it 'Let's prank the teacher by putting the whiteboard eraser on top of the door so that when he comes in, it falls and lands DONK on his head!!'' She rambled out at lightspeed.
''Don't you think that's a bit of a long name, Alyssa?'' I retorted knowing she thought it was completely normal.
She turned her head sideways unknowing of the judgement I was giving her. Her shirt was so slightly unbuttoned on the second one revealing her collarbone just peeking out. I turned my head away.
''No.'' I said hoping to make her go away.
''Hmph, here I thought you were a man as well. Oh well, I guess I'll ask Sakuta to do it.'' She said in a teasing manner.
Sakuta, that fucker. She knows I don't like that guy. I mean he's always trying to hit on her constantly. Realistically, it doesn't affect me because obviously I don't like her in that way.. Still it ticks me off.
''Ugh. Fine.'' I hesitantly stood up and went to grab the whiteboard eraser and slowly trodded over while all the classmates eyes followed me slowly seeing what stupid thing I was about to do. Maybe due to the fact I was half asleep or Alyssa had ticked me off with that Sakuta comment, I think I got a bit careless.
I hesitantly stood up, trying to shake off my sleepiness. With the entire class's eyes on me, I grabbed the whiteboard eraser and began my tiptoe approach towards the door. My heart raced, and I could feel a nervous sweat forming on my forehead. As I reached up to place the eraser on the doorframe, the class's laughter started to bubble up.
"Watch out, folks, we've got a daredevil in our midst!" someone joked.
Balancing on my tiptoes, I struggled to position the eraser just right. It was like defusing a bomb in a comedy movie. Alyssa's infectious giggle only added to the pressure, making my hands shake ever so slightly.
However, I felt the class go silent like in a forest where all the bugs go silent. I felt the glare of someone's eyes glaring through my soul. I scanned my eyes down to see my teacher staring at me dumbfounded at whatever stupid out of character act I was doing, and I recoiled back in horror.
Everything felt like it was happening in slow motion. The eraser soared toward the doorframe, almost in an elegant dance. The class's laughter intensified, creating a symphony of amusement. As if in protest, my body leaned in the opposite direction, causing me to stumble backward.
I flailed my arms like a windmill, hoping to regain my balance, but the laws of physics had other plans. With a graceless thud, I collided with the teacher's desk, my body collapsing onto it with a mix of pain and humiliation. The class erupted into even louder laughter, and I could feel my face turning a shade of red that probably matched Alyssa's shirt.
If the floor had opened up and swallowed me at that moment, I might have welcomed it.
I ended up stumbling onto the teachers desk where I fell straight onto the corner of it. It hurt like hell. Then I heard a crash of a desk on the other side?
Alyssa suddenly ran up to the desk and had tears in her eyes, her shoulders quivering.
''JAKE? OH GOD, YOU OKAY?'' She shouted in the most worried voice I've ever heard.
''Teach, I'm so sorry- this was my fault. I told him to do this as a prank.'' She quickly confessed.
The teacher's dumbfounded look slowly turned into uncontrollable laughter seemingly finding the situation hilarious. His eyes slowly scanned my bedraggled body as his eyes slowly filled with tears of laughter. Slowly and surely, he managed to grab the only composure left in the room.
''Hahaha, no worries kids. I used to do stuff like this all the time. You always gotta prank your teacher.'' The teacher retorted. ''Gotta plan better next time, Jake. I'm way shorter than you.'' He retorted and Alyssa breathed a sigh of relief.
Alyssa managed to support me all the way to the Nurse's office. The strength of this gorilla, honestly. I got a thump on the head, and I suddenly feared that Alyssa could read my mind.
''Jake, are you okay? I'm so sorry, I didn't think you'd end up hurting yourself, I'm so sorry. It's all my fault... You can hit me back!'' Alyssa said with a tone of sadness.
And.. a great idea just popped into my head.
''Oh, that's a great idea Alyssa.'' I said pridefully. ''Come here then, show me your hand.'' Alyssa showed me the back of her hand, I wound up a powerful punch and then proceeded to lightly tickle her side.
''Wahhahah! Hey, Jake! Stop that!'' She cried out as she fell onto me.
''Just joking, it was my fault for not accounting our 5'2 accounting teacher into the mix.'' I said. '' So don't feel bad.''
''Was this your plan from the beginning?'' She pouted angrily.
''It was all my plan from the start!'' I laughed out villainously putting my best super evil ultra villain impression on. We both started laughing at the ridiculous and chuuni thing I just put out into the universe.
Suddenly Alyssa stopped laughing. ''Seriously, don't get yourself hurt around me again, I don't know what I'd do.'' She said trying to look away.
''I'll try my best, Alyssa.''
And thank you.
I didn't say that out loud though. I didn't want to hear her teasing me anyway about a stupid mushy thing like that. Anyway, I'm sure she understood what I would be trying to say anyway. Why didn't I say it though?
