Alyssa's always been a loose cannon, sometimes she's calm and collected but then the next moment she's bubbly and without a care in the world, I can never quite pin down the reason.
Her slim figure was just poking out from the wide wooden-frame of the chair, her freckles popping out like little firecrackers on her face. She was peeking her hypnotising eyes across my face seemingly trying to get some sort of message from my calm expression. Seeing her peeking her face into my features made me want to-
''Boo!'' I shouted in her face as she proceeded to jolt back like the recoil on a gun, the impact of her back hitting the table echoing out, the table's legs skirting across the ground making a horrible grinding sound. In retaliation, Alyssa grabbed my ear and pulled it like she wanted to rip it off.
''Ow-ow-ow, stop, stop, I'm sorry, sorry, sorry!
I pleaded with her as she twisted and turned my ear into different dimensional planes. Another thing about Alyssa was her gorilla-like strength, her biceps were honestly bigger than mine which pissed me off sometimes, especially when she'd flex in front of me.
She finally let go of my ear, if my ear was a sentient being, it would be wailing. Her anger suddenly turning to excitement and glee as she sat back down and grinned to herself and laughed cheekily.
''My bad, couldn't help it. You okay?''
''Obviously not!!'' I remarked, surprised at the sudden change in tone.
She almost ripped my ear off, what does she want me to say..
''Haha, don't worry it didn't hurt.'' Like some sort of dreamy prince charming?
No. That gorilla-grip of hers hurt like fucking crazy, I reckoned she could break the world record for grip-strength if I pissed her off enough. Her blue eyes still shone like a beacon, gleaming with excitement for the next event ready to happen.
I feel like I've always known Alyssa, that mischievous look in her eyes never changes.
Our parents were business partners so we always ended up hanging out together, and after that we ended up looking out for each other when we needed it most. When she was getting picked on back in Kindergarten, I ended up doing the only logical thing, by which I mean, throwing dirt at the bully and then throwing a tantrum saying he punched me and then as a result nearly getting him kicked out of school. Or, when I was having a hard time making friends, she'd always offer to hang out, or eat lunch together. Her bright smile illuminating even the darkest, most overcast boring days. The small things, even if it was with her.. I enjoyed.
''I'm bored, lewws do something funss.'' Her yawn entering her sentence, slurring it like she had just downed 4 bottles of lager as a small teardrop formed in her eye from the yawn.
''What's on your mind?'' I questioned nonchalantly as I shoved my flower-patterned pencil case deep into the nether regions of my backpack.
''I'm feeling like karaoke, you down?'' She questioned, lifting her backpack onto her shoulders, letting one strap hang off, in an almost cool way.
''No way am I listening to you singing ''That's What Makes You Beautiful'' for another half an hour, that almost made me go deaf, you know?!'' I exclaimed, karaoke was never my thing, anyway with Alyssa it was just Alyssaoke anyway, its just her screeching at the top of her lungs, thinking she sounds like an angel.
''What?? Come on, I know you love hearing me sing.'' She cheekily leaned in to hear my response.
Not wanting to give her one, I just got up without much thought and walked off out the classroom with Alyssa panickingly following behind me.
''Hey, hey! Where are we going?''
''The beach.. I like the sunsets there.'' I reasoned.
''Yay!'' I think whatever idea I proposed she would've been happy with anyway. We strolled down the now empty hallways, hearing the small whispers of teachers from the staff room, or the loud whooshing sound of the vacuum that made Alyssa jump into me. The sun was now peeking over the glass doors of the school, I urged Alyssa to hurry up and she tugged on her heels to let her black and blue trainers slip on and once they finally did, we hurried down to the beach.
Our school, Maravelley Tech, lays close to the peninsula of the country. Therefore, it was only a few minutes to the beach from school, and in certain classrooms you could see the waves crashing against the stony pebbles of the beach, feeding water in and out and the horizon only grew deeper and deeper. I've always loved the beach.
The feeling of the sea breeze brushing up against your face, the salty air emanating into your lungs, filling you with a nostalgic and longing feeling. The small crashing of the waves against my feet fills me with longing to go back to a place I feel like I need to return to. However, my favourite thing about the beach is the sunset.
Me and Alyssa trekked onto the pebbly shorefront and sat on our favourite bench, commemorating some guy that had died, ''Liam Pendley'' was engraved on the bench. We sat down and got comfy as the horizon started to glow a marvellous array of colours as the spectrum of the sunset revealed itself.
The light blue of the sky reflected off Alyssa's pale skin, illuminating her in this almost ethereal presence. As the light blue darkened, a light orange started to overcome the sky as Alyssa looked on in calm awe.
''I get why you love sunsets so much, this is so pretty.'' Alyssa mentioned, speaking in a softer tone to her demeanour at school.
''Damn right they are!'' I exclaimed, happy she admitted I was right.
''Hey look, the sky is turning more orange.'' I pointed excitedly out as the sky delved deeper into its palette of colours, a small violet starting to emerge from the orange.
''Oh yeah look it is!!'' She laughed excitedly, nudging closer as our shoulders started to bounce of each other, I managed to smell that flower-like perfume again. It smelt nice.
As the sun died deeper and deeper into its resting place, I felt Alyssa's rising and falling with her breaths as they became a slow pattern.
''You wanna know something funny?'' Alyssa asked.
''Go ahead, I'm curious.'' I remarked, curious as to this ever so funny story that Alyssa is ready to talk about.
''You know my mum, right? Last night- she ended up trying to make some bread yeah?''
''Mhm.'' I nodded along, listening to her anecdote.
''So, she was baking in the kitchen right, you know? Next to the door underneath the stairs where you always used to hide in hide and seek.'
''Alyssa, I know where your kitchen i-'' She cut me off mid-sentence.
''Anyways, basically she was baking, then suddenly Jackers jumped onto the kitchen table, and got her paws all over the dough and then jumped in the flour and it all went straight into mum's face.'' She burst out in laughter which I did in tandem at the thought of Alyssa's mum covered in baking flour.
''And then, right and then'' trying to keep my attention, she excitedly carried on, ''she shouted soo freaking loudly, Jackers!! How could you do this!!'' At this point, Alyssa is in stitches, her head swaying side to side in hysterical laughter recounting her mother's despair. I join in with her, laughing our heads off like idiots in the middle of nowhere.
''I feel bad for your poor mum.'' I wiped a tear of laughter of my eye as I sighed trying to catch my breath from laughing.
''Haha yeah, I know right..'' Alyssa exclaimed, composing herself before again loosing herself in a fit of laughter.
The sky slowly turned darker, the deep blue of the night sky overtaking our view as the first stars began to shone bright in the night sky. How long had it been now? We sat there, silently for a long time.
''Hey Alyssa, let's head home. You wanna have dinner at yours or mine? Either way doesn't matter.'' I urged her, trying not to ruin the mood too much.
''What's your mum making?'' She questioned, beaming her smile towards my face, her blue eyes shining like the moon on the deep blue sea.
''If you come along, she'll probably make your favourite.'' I admitted defeatedly, my mum likes Alyssa way too much.
''Haha, score! Let's go to yours then.'' She exclaimed as she got up, ready and revving to go.
