Chapter 37 - Crows

Levi's eyes remained closed as he slept but his body shook uncontrollably. Sweat trickled down his forehead and his facials contorted into an expression of pain.

His dreams were riddled with a woman in black who was followed by dark clouds and had crows surrounding her.

There was a dark presence around her wherever she went. In every dream, Levi stood opposite her as they spoke.

His fleeting ghost stood in a corner watching the whole encounter.

Despite it being his dream, he could not hear what he and the woman were talking about. He only knew that things soon turned sour and he ended up with a black spear through his heart.

Then he stared at his body from afar, rotting away. As his body rotted, his soul left his body and landed in the woman's hand.

"This is a clear warning. Fighting me and resisting me will only go one way. '' Except the woman was not talking to his rotting body.

She was talking to the 'him' in the corner that was looking at the scene in front of him.

"Wake up! Wake up! Wait for me, child. I'll be there for you soon. "

Levi was too scared to move. His feet were rooted to the spot. Something about the dream felt real.

"Wake up! " She screamed and Levi sprang out of bed in shock.

When he looked around and realized he was in his room and he was okay, he heaved out a sigh of relief and sat down on his bed.

He ran his hands through his face a couple of times before sighing and deciding to just stay awake.

He had thirty minutes left until he had to get up to go and train with Thyone. He changed out of his sweaty clothes and wore sporty clothing.

[Relax. Thyone is training you. Maybe soon you will be able to stand a chance in a fight against her]

He wanted to believe the statement but he knew the system was only telling him that to console him. He had already seen how a fight with Lilith–the mother of demons–ended.

"I'll know what to do when she shows up. For now, that's not a problem. Who knows? Maybe she's not coming. "

Levi believed there was a possibility that she was not coming. It had been a week and a half since she promised to come for him and she had yet to do so. He wouldn't be surprised if she never showed up.

His alarm rang, pulling him out of his thoughts. He left his room immediately and headed to the combat class to train with Thyone.

He entered the combat class ten minutes early and imagined he would find himself alone. But he wasn't alone.

Thyone was already there laying down the weapons they were going to use to train. They had started with the sword.

Levi had moved from being a level 0 sword user to a level 2 sword user in two days. Thyone was a very good Trainor.

He never went easy on Levi or kissed his ass. He even insulted his skills and made fun of him. Those things only served to motivate Levi.

"Do you have to be early for everything? " He asked Thyone.

"Yes. It helps me avoid unwelcome surprises. "

"I hope you remember the moves I taught you yesterday. We will be learning new ones today and you will need to show all of them at the end of the lesson. "

"I remember…"

"Good."

Then without warning, Thyone attacked a swordless Levi and sliced his arm open in the process.

"Hey! That is not fair! It hurts like a bitch. You should have given me a signal or something."

"An enemy will never give you a signal. They will just attack and hurt you. Always be prepared for a fight. If you can't be alert enough to spot an attack from afar then you will die within the first few seconds of a fight. "

Levi rolled his eyes and took out his sword. He didn't care to listen to what Thyone was saying. He would be prepared in a fight.

The two began training and they did so for two hours before they called it a day.

Levi left the building to go back to his dorm but as soon as he was outside, he was met with a scene that he had never seen before.

The usual orange skies of Sunaru were now pitch black and there were black crows flying everywhere. Some of them were flying low on people's heads.

They were loud and unbearable to listen to but they were not going anywhere. There were thousands if not tens of thousands of crows in the air.

It was just like he had seen in his dreams when the mother of demons appeared. He had a sinking feeling that she had something to do with the crows.

"What the fuck is going on? "Thyone asked as he stood beside Levi. Levi shook his head and ducked when a crow flew directly towards him.

The best thing to do was to take cover. That was what everyone was doing.

Levi rushed to his dorm building and hid inside. Unfortunately for him, the crows were so many that some managed to get inside the building. They were terrorizing the students by attempting to peck them with their beaks.

Levi ran to his room and locked the door to prevent any crows from coming in. As soon as he turned, he saw a figure standing next to the bed.

It was wearing all black and there was an oversized black hat on their head. Before he could pull out his sword, the figure snapped their fingers and he was transported back outside.

"Read the message in the sky, " a faraway voice asked into his ear. He felt like it was a breeze talking to him judging from how cold his ears became when the voice spoke.

He looked to the sky and saw a clear message that everyone else could not see. There were a group of crows in the air forming all the letters for that message.

'I am here, Levi. See you soon, my child.'

He tensed and started looking around to see if anyone else could read the message like him but there wasn't.

Unknown to him, Thyone only stared at him suspiciously and then left.

Even though he had read the message that had been intended for him, the crows did not go away. In fact, they doubled in numbers.

The Mother of Demons was here and she was stronger than ever.
