Chapter 12 - Back to safety

Levi stood over the beast wondering why he was so drawn to it. Its soul was calling out to him like a beacon. He fought every urge he had to feed on the beast's soul in fear of turning into an evil creature.

[You want to get out of here, don't you? Feed on its soul]

At the thought of leaving, Levi decided to feed on the beast's soul. He had no food, water, or weapons to defend himself from the other sleeping beasts when they woke.

He would rather feed on a soul and live than die because of his morals.

"How do I do it?"

[Look into the beast's eyes and concentrate. Then open your mouth and its soul will come to you]

Levi took a deep breath and walked toward the beast. He was ready to become a demon.

He did as the system instructed. He had to climb on top of the beast to look into its eyes.

The beast's eyes were wide and lifeless and its mouth was wide open. The first few seconds he concentrated into the beast's eyes felt stupid but after a while, he could see it.

Its black disturbed soul was enticing and almost sweet. He could taste it at the tip of his tongue. The beast had to have suffered a lot to have such a dark soul.

Levi called out to its soul to come to him and it did. A pitch-black matter moved from the beast's mouth to Levi's.

His eyes turned black, the tattoo on his wrist glowed red and he felt a carving forming on his bicep which made him scream out in pain.

The pain lasted for a full minute before everything faded and he fell to the ground.

[Congratulations! You have successfully leveled up! The transition from a halfling to a demon will begin now!]

Levi felt like his body was on fire. He started shaking uncontrollably while his eyes remained wide.

A black substance started coming out of his mouth before an invisible force lifted him in the air. His body started undergoing transition.

His cells mutated, his physique improved, and his facial structure changed.

After a few minutes of being suspended in the air while he underwent excruciating pain, he fell to the ground and started coughing black dust.

"What's happening?"

[Congratulations, host! You are now a demon]

Seconds passed by and Levi pulled himself to stand. He stared at his arms wondering why he had some muscle.

His previously skinny arms were filled with muscle and his chest was wider. His legs were also filled with more muscle than before.

He was lean but his body was not quite toned. Despite this, he was glad his skinny arms and legs were gone.

[Would the host like to see his stats?]

"Yes. System interface."

He wanted to see his basic info first.

"What is intangibility? "

[Intangibility is the ability to move through solid matter without harm]

Levi looked at the door and an idea popped into his mind. If he could move through solid matter then that meant he could walk through the door.

"Can I walk through that door?"

[Yes because it has a small width. The more the width the harder it will be for you to walk through solid matter at level 1]

"What happens if a door or a wall is too thick?"

[You will get stuck inside the wall or door]

Ouch. That sounded painful.

"Can I feed on the souls of the other beasts I killed? " He thought that would intensify his intangibility power and make him invincible.

[You can't consume the souls of dead creatures. The beast's soul was still lingering in the abyss and hadn't crossed over to the other side. That was why you fed on it]

"Why was it lingering?"

[Its soul was not at peace, host]

At least he could leave. He walked to the door, closed his eyes, and walked through it. It felt like he was being pulled backwards and his body felt light.

When the cold air hit him, he breathed out a sigh of relief. It was a little dark outside, indicating that it was almost morning.

Sunaru was similar to Earth. The only difference was that there were longer days than nights.

If he reached the dorm as people were leaving for breakfast, no one would know he hadn't slept in his room.

Only his roommate would know and he didn't care about Levi. He took his sweet time walking to the dorm so that he wouldn't be too early.

He got there when the students were leaving for breakfast. His clothes were torn and they were too tight for him so people were staring at him and whispering.

He rushed to his dorm and changed into a new set of clothes that was still as tight as the ones he had before. Even his trousers failed to reach his ankles.

One wrong move and the shirt he had on would be ripped into two. He sighed and made a mental note to visit the uniform department.

He left his room quickly and headed for breakfast. He took his breakfast and headed to the table he and Eliot sat at as usual.

"Where have you been? I went to look for you last night and you weren't there. What time did you come in?"

"I came in late. Why? "

On cue, Eliot looked to the left and saw the third-years staring at their table. Roman made the sign of slitting a throat at Levi and punched his fist to his palm.

"Levi, what's going on? You look different. Something weird is happening. "

"It's none of your business. "

"You will get us both murdered in here. As long as you have a target on your back I do too. Unless you tell me what's going on then stay away from me. "

Eliot stood up with his breakfast and headed to a group of first years that had all mastered abilities.

It seems the students were starting to divide themselves into groups. The ones who looked weak stayed with their kind and the ones who looked strong did the same.

Levi was the only one without a friend or a friend group.
