"As you all know, there was a crow crisis in the school yesterday. Thankfully we were able to exorcise them. We need all the students to remain calm and we assure all of you that nothing like this will happen again." Principal Adam said.
All the students turned to each other and started murmuring. Including Eliot who turned to talk to Levi.
"What do you think happened yesterday? " Eliot asked and Levi responded by shrugging his shoulders.
He was still in shock after what had happened. The mother had come for him and he was so scared that he could barely sleep.
He didn't want to be in some sort of pack of demons.
He wanted to have his own life with interests that were separate from Lilith's and other demons. However, his fate seemed sealed.
Lilith was even more powerful than the magicians in school. It had taken a full day and some reinforcements to finally get rid of the crows.
If those were only crows, Levi imagined what would happen if Lilith brought out her demons.
And the demons were not likely two or even ten. She must have had thousands of demons at her beck and call.
"What's wrong? You look pale. You have nothing to worry about. They already got rid of the crows. '' Eliot said.
They may have gotten rid of the crows but Levi knew that had not gotten rid of the one who brought them. Kylie moved through the crowd and stood next to Levi.
"Remember how I told you about Lilith? I think she was behind the attack. Here is a line from the book that has all the information about her. " She said and pulled out the book to show Levi.
"Kylie—"
"And with her presence comes tens of thousands of crows to inform all that a doom day is on its way and all will bow to her name. "
The last thing Levi needed was for the situation to get real and every time someone spoke, he felt like he was one step closer to be taken by Lilith.
"Come on, Kylie. Do you believe that? She is just a fictional character someone wrote down to explain why demons exist. "
"But—"
"Are demons even real? I don't believe it was the 'mother of demons'. You need to get your nose out of your books and come back to reality. "
Levi knew he should not have said the last part but the words were out and he could not take them back. Kylie's eyes glistened with tears before she blinked them away quickly.
"The only person that needs to come back to reality is you. The truth is right in front of you and yet you refuse to see it. After what you saw yesterday, can you deny that there is a possibility that I am right? "
"Yes, and I am. Not everything can be explained by some fictitious book. Say you're right. Why was the mother of demons here? Why would she attack an academy full of magicians? "
She opened her mouth and closed it a couple of times. When she came up with no answer, she huffed and walked away.
"Dude, that wasn't very nice of you to do. You should apologize. "
Levi nodded and turned his attention back to the front. Adam was just finishing up his speech by saying they were investigating what happened and making sure it never happened again.
"Dismissed. "
Eliot and Levi went for breakfast together and sat at their usual table. Kylie with her tray of breakfast passed by them without saying a word and sat with other people.
"See what she did there? She is mad a you for being so rude to her."
"Trust me, if I could go back in time I wouldn't say what I said to her. "
"But what she is saying makes sense. That is the only possible explanation. " Eliot had thought of Kylie's theory and he thought that there was a big chance she was right.
"As opposed to other possible explanations? Come on, be real. The Mother of Demons sounds tacky and untrue. That is just a fictional character that somebody wrote in a book."
"After everything we have seen since we left Earth, I thought you would be open to new possibilities. "
"Not when they sound made up. "
Eliot thought Levi was acting dodgy about the whole situation. He was acting like something was bothering him. He had also kept himself locked in his room when the crow invasion was taking place.
Eliot had tried knocking in his dorm room but he refused to see anyone.
"What's wrong with you, anyway? You acting so fucking weird about the whole thing. "
"You sound like Kylie now, " Levi commented to shut Eliot up and it worked.
Levi was aware that the conversation had turned awkward after his statement so he put everything back on his tray and prepared to leave.
"Where are you going? The class starts in ten minutes. " Their first class was near the cafeteria so it would have made sense if Levi stayed in the cafeteria as he waited for the first bell to be rang.
"Thyone asked me to see him before class."
"Thyone? Since when are you on a first-name basis with the professor? I have never heard anyone calling him anything other than Professor Thyone. " Eliot interrogated.
He had also noticed that those two seemed to be spending a lot of time together. He wanted to ask what they were up to at that moment but he could see that Levi was irritated.
He was just going to have to wait for the right time to ask what those two were doing after hours. It felt like some sort of hidden agenda that he was not a part of.
"I'll see you in class. "
Then Levi left. As soon as he was out of sight, Kylie joined Eliot.
"He is hiding something but I don't know what it is. He keeps telling us that the mother of demons is a fictitious character like he knows better. " Kylie said as she glared at where Levi was sitting.
"I'll get to the bottom of it, " Eliot reassured.
"I am thinking of going forward with the information I have. Maybe they don't have all the answers yet and I want to help out. See you in class."
Kylie also got up and went in search of a professor who could help her.
Meanwhile, Levi walked into Thyone's office to find him in a heated argument with Crystal. When Thyone saw Levi, he placed a hand on Crystal's shoulder and she turned around to leave.
"Nice to see you, Levi, " she said as he passed by him to exit the class.
As soon as she was gone, Levi looked at Thyone and pointed to the exit behind him with his thumb.
"What was that about? " He asked.
"None of your business. " Thyone replied curtly. "Tell me something and tell me the truth. Do you know what happened yesterday? "
