Chapter 14 - Into the city

"Start from the beginning. "

Against the advice of the system, Levi told Eliot about the pill. He left out how he knew about the red pill's effects and about the system. He still wasn't sure where Eliot's loyalty lay.

"How do you know all this? "

"I heard some teachers talking about it. " It was a necessary lie.

"Thank you for telling me. See you around. "

Levi wasn't expecting that sort of reaction. The Eliot he knew would never be fine with being drugged against his own will.

"That's it?! After everything I have said to you, that is all you have to say? "

Eliot ran his hand through his face and looked to the side. Levi would never understand. He finally had a family he could call his own and something to be proud of. Levi had nothing and hence nothing to lose.

"I like my new powers. I don't care about the consequences. We're going to all die one day anyway. "

Eliot went back to his room and slammed the door shut.

"Who was that? "

"No one. "

Eliot's roommate was just as nosy as Eliot so he hoped he hadn't heard the conversation. He hoped that Levi would keep his mouth shut too. Not that anyone would believe a word he said.

Meanwhile, Levi was still frozen standing outside Eliot's room wondering what had just happened. He had always assumed Eliot was the kind of guy who was against the administration and everything it stood for.

Now that Levi was confirming that the administration was rigged, Eliot wanted to shut up and do whatever the ones in power wanted him to do.

"What a pussy? "

[I told you not to tell him anything]

He ignored the system. He had no time to be lectured by something that wasn't even alive. Levi went back to his room and sat on his bed staring at the ceiling.

It was Saturday and all the students were allowed to leave the school premises once the clock hit 2 pm provided they were back by curfew. He was contemplating whether it was a good idea to go or not.

There were so many reasons he had not to go.

He had no friends or gold coins and he didn't know the city at all. He could get lost or Roman could try and do something to him. He was strong but not as powerful as Roman. He could crush Levi like a fly.

[I know a way you can make fast money]

Was the system helping him when he wasn't even in a life-threatening situation? There had to be a catch.

"Which way? "

[Do you agree or not?]

"I don't even know what I'm agreeing to. "

[You have to trust that I have the host's best interest at heart]

"This feels like a trap but fine. "

[Quest: Go back to the dungeon and defeat more monsters and beasts so that you can level up and earn some rewards]

"Fuck, no. You know what? This system can go fuck itself. I'm going into the city with no money. "

[You already agreed. You have 24 hours to complete this task]

Levi had already decided he wasn't going to do it and a system was not going to convince him otherwise. He didn't care about the consequences.

When the clock hit 2, he was at the gate like all the other students waiting for it to open so he could leave. The only difference was that he was wearing a hoodie to cover his face and he was looking down so that no one would notice him.

The gates opened and all the students flocked outside. The students were going in all directions. The second, third, and fourth years were all well acquitted with the school so he followed behind them like all the other first years.

The city was more beautiful than he thought. He was unable to keep his head down because he was too busy looking at everything around him. It was very technologically advanced.

Every now and then a spaceship flew into the air and disappeared into the sky. The sky at Sonaru was purple at night while during the day it was orange mixed with blue.

The lights mixed with the purple skies made the city look even more ahead of its time.

Like on Earth, there were modern railway lines crisscrossing each other in the air. The trains passing through were white with black windows. You couldn't see inside even if you tried.

Not only that, mobile transport machines were moving in the air. The cars looked like sports cars but without wheels. They were moving a few centimeters above the road.

The motorcycles were not half as impressive as everything else but they were also very modern and futuristic. Something the people on Earth would never build in 100 years.

"Wow…"

Some clothes people were wearing looked like futuristic attire for war. Levi spotted clubs everywhere as well as clothing stores and other businesses. He decided to enter one club just to see how they were.

The club he entered was just as rowdy as the ones on Earth. The waitresses were wearing red leather bras and panties matched with heels. They were all beautiful women with amazing bodies that Levi couldn't help but gawk at.

The way they strutted around while other men spanked their behinds was something he had never seen on Earth. Women on Earth would never allow men to spank them as they were serving drinks.

[You can't afford the drinks here or anywhere else. Go back to school]

"Not a chance in hell. "

Levi walked to the counter to order a drink. He wanted to get a little drunk–something he had never done before. He was planning to drink and then pickpocket. That was a trick that he had picked up on while living with his father.

His father was a thief and everyone expected him to turn out to be one but he had resisted. Not anymore. He was in desperate need of money.

"I want a drink…"

"Which one?"

"The strongest and cheapest one you have. "

The bartender slid a green and purple drink towards him. Not only did it look disgusting. The smell was pungent enough to make him vomit. But he was a man on a mission. A mission to drink, steal, and get away with it.

He was going to go back to school drunk no matter what it took.

[Good luck, host]

"Levi? Is that you? "
