Chapter 77 - Kingdom of The Malaise (11)

'God this is tiring' I let out a sigh of relief when the waves of rats crashing against me finally fell apart.

There were the odd straggler of the rat pack still leaping at me with their sharp buck toothed teeth, but it was a thousand times easier than the waves of rats.

Having been swinging my blade constantly over the course of an unknown stretch of time, my arms were now incredibly sore.

'Oof that hurts' Grimacing I stopped swinging the blades because I could afford to and just settled with using ice shards to dispatch the rest.

Freezing both the monsters and the corpses surrounding it, I finally got some breathing room and could see the devastation that was around me,

On my right, besides several split chunks of flesh leaking blood consisting of an unknown amount of rats.

The walls, ceilings and ground had small thin marks on them, in some places where they weren't concentrated it wasn't noticeable.

But where they were focused it was definitely noticeable.

Looking at a large gashed out cross section in the walls I turned my attention to my left.

Like the right which consisted of split apart monsters, blood and wall marks.

The difference was that there was a lot of blood.

Like a lot a lot.

Blinking at the sight of an entire side of the sewer's that had been painted red, even the toxic green water that was unnaturally toxic had a red tinge to it.

It looked as if some mad man had gotten a galloon of red paint before throwing it every where without regards of efficiency.

Some of the split rats on the ground were positively caked in the red liquid.

Looking at the bloody sewers I popped my lips and quickly got to work.

These bodies wouldn't dispose of themselves.

---

Ever since Cherry's disappearance, I had made it a habit to collect the loot from all the corpses I eventually either stumbled on or created.

And even though it a good majority of the items weren't useful such as rotten flesh, bones, Tattered cloth, rotten wood and the like.

Every once in a while I got something rare like Silk, Iron ore, Lead ore, Rusty Swords or blue prints such as the blood Sword.

I already found the Blueprint for the Rampart from the Shield bearers and the Ice bow from Undead Archers.

Granted I don't exactly have the materials to craft these items currently.

So in a form of luck, I found a blue print.

'Oh? Neat I'll check it out later'

Glancing at the paper that appeared in my hand I put it away in favor of focusing at the the task at hand.

Moving around the rat corpses, I stepped on top of the mound of rat corpses that inevitably formed due to the sheer amount of them, and crossed the toxic water.

Flame burning full tilt on top of my head to get rid of the smell.

Soon enough, I finally reached the point I couldn't even take in any more due to how full my inventory had become.

Both of them in fact.

'The rest...'

Looking at the still large mound of monster corpses that didn't seem to have diminished at all, I brought out a handful of gel and a torch.

'I guess they burn.'

Opening my inventory to sort out the things that I didn't need currently and would burn with the things I needed and would keep.

I slowly threw away the pounds upon pounds of rat meat, furs and other things.

As the many things were burned in the bon fire that slowly grew larger and larger as I fed it more and more flesh and bone.

I slowly walked around the corpses and tried to salvage as many things as possible while making sure to burn every single unneeded thing in my inventories.

And let me tell you.

There was a lot.

Now staring at the incredibly large bonfire burning in front of me I belatedly realized that I blocked the way from where I had come from.

Staring at the giant flame pillar that blocked the entirety of the round passage I let out a sigh.

What's done is done and couldn't be undone.

Well it could but I didn't feel like it.

Throwing the last of the bones, meat and fur into the bonfire.

The flames greedily licked the items with their flames before consuming them in their entirety.

Sighing I turned my attention to the inventory where my stash of new found goodies were located.

'So what is this blue print?'

Looking for the giant sheet of yellowish paper that should've appeared in my inventory the sounds of rattling bones came at the edges of my senses.

Blinking stupidly I glanced at the source of the sounds that being the end of a rather long hallway and saw an undead archer pulling back the strings of a bow.

'...' Crouching down and dodging an arrow that flew above my head and embedded itself into a bit of greenery that somehow grew down here.

I looked at the trembling arrow that was embedded into the wall before looking at the undead archer that was pulling the strings of the bow once again.

'... I should probably go somewhere else'

Glancing at the burning bonfire that was no doubt the source of the attraction of the undead archer, I quickly ran away.

I had no doubts that I could take on the undead archer, but what about the monsters that would come next attracted by the burning corpses?

I could deal with them sure, but could I deal with the next? And the next?

I could probably deal with them as well but the problem was that these guys are dead and I'm not... I think?

But I have limits.

And my limits entail killing a hoard of monsters and that's it.

Quickly running away from the undead archer and diving into the myriad of tunnels that the toxic sewers branched off into.

I speedily escaped the monsters that were no doubt closing in on the place where the scent of burning rat corpses was located.

Shoes slapping against the ground, my feet carried me forwards.

I might've appreciated the feeling of running across the halls of the sewers at break neck speeds if not for the dastardly smell that pierced my nose every now and then.

'Invest in nose clips'

That smell and the fact that I had to dodge the monsters that I periodically happened upon were the reason for my dissatisfaction.

"Whoops!" Quickly somersaulting over a very confused zombie, I threw ice shards at the green undead before landing against the ground.

A giant worm that was slightly up ahead screeched.

It was a green little caterpillar looking monster with red cracked rocks on it's back that occasionally pulsed with a yellow glow.

Throwing Ice shards at the monster that opened it's mouth wide in preparation to swallow me? I quickly widened my eyes at the set of knife like teeth that appeared in front of me.

Luckily the ice shards dealt with it by freezing it hole.

Quickly stabbing what might've been the head of the worm with one of the twin daggers, I quickly ran away.

A loud explosion occurring behind me as pink rock fragments flew by my retreating face.

Blinking I counted my lucky stars that I was currently running away.

'So it explodes? Good to know'

Sighting upon a small pack of rats that were scurrying my way having caught the scent of their many burnt comrades.

Ice quickly froze them in their tracks.

'Goodbye little fuckers!'

Safe to say I didn't like those bastards anymore.

Chuckling at myself at those absurd antics I made by cursing at the frozen rats, I nearly threw myself into harms way...

Again...

"WHAT THE FUCK!?"

Spinning out of the way, almost instantly a purple bow appeared in my hand and three arrows were nocked on it.

And before I could probably assess the enemy it was embedded with three arrows.

Spinning around again I took a glance at the monster that was now hopefully a corpse behind me.

Apparently not I guess, Seeing the strange glowing monster that was still visibly moving and letting out a loud screech that disappeared as I went around a bend I raised an eyebrow.

'What the..? Guess it's not fated to die and will probably hate me for this later'

Jesting to myself, soon enough I found a safe enough looking area empty of monsters.

Quickly walling the entire place off I finally collapsed to the ground with sweat pouring down my face.

'Ugh'

Grimacing as the strain of having overexerted myself appeared in my arms like an aching pain.

I slowly let the adrenaline run through my body and slowly dissipate through my excited body, my heart slowly slowed it's beat as I closed my eyes.

Enjoying the sounds of my beating heart.

After the adrenaline had finally disappeared, I enjoyed the silence for a while before a small smile appeared on my face.

'Time to look at the spoils of battle I guess'

Opening my eyes I opened the inventory.

And I must say the contents of my inventory were rather... shocking to say the least.
