Hearing those words a sense of disappoint filled me for a moment before understanding followed.
If a single person could benefit from putting several mutations on their body with no consequences everyone might've as well put thousands of mutations on their body.
However, I was severely tempted to ask for more mutations than a normal person could hold because I was someone who could revive after death.
If things went wrong I could just die.
I didn't know if the mutations could follow me to the next life though.
Thinking about that I instantly felt cautious before having to ask Guillian "What happens if you put more than three mutations?"
Hearing my question Guillian rolled their eyes "The last girl who asked that question forced me to put four mutations on their body"
"And what happened to them?"
Side eyeing me they started to rummage through the corpses while taking out their knife and without remorse started to butcher them.
"Well... they exploded"
Blinking at that abrupt response I shook my head and looked at the list of mutations that was presented to me.
And with great regret I swallowed my greed and chose the three mutations that would be most beneficial to me currently.
"Oh? You chose those ones? Well I must say you are smarter than you look" A shine appeared in the Chameleon's head as I felt slightly ticked off by that reply.
"And what do you mean by that?"
Ignoring my words Guillian finished sawing off a heart from a body before jumping to the top of the bag, the red heart in his hand pouring out blood.
"First things first, could you lay on that table?" Pointing at a stone table that was covered in bits of gore and bone they disappeared into the depths of the brown bag.
Feeling a slight sliver of doubt, I suppressed the doubt with my ability to respawn and moved to the table.
And with a slight hesitation I laid down on the stone surface of the carved stone table, ignoring the blood and gore surrounding me.
Waiting for a few moments, Guillian appeared besides me while carrying various items in their small quadruple fingered hands of theirs.
I spotted a few teeth, eyes, an arm and a few other organs I didn't recognize as they were all rather clumped up.
Guillian looked at me for a moment as they placed the various body parts on the stone table, staring at me with their big green eyes.
"Lad, Shouldn't you take off your armor first? Or do you want me to operate on you with your armor on?"
Blinking at their words I realized belatedly that I indeed was still wearing the Shadow set on my body.
Feeling slight embarrassment at those words I unequipped y armor instantly leaving me wearing nothing but the torn fabric that I kept on my body since my coming to this world.
I found no need to change my clothes after all, and they seemed to regenerate after a while so it was fine.
Looking at my body Guillian observed it for a while and produced a giant syringe from somewhere and stabbed it into my body.
"Oh yeah, because it'll hurt like hell I'll just put you to sleep first"
"Wait what?"
Feeling a sudden wave of exhaustion suddenly assault me, I vaguely felt Guillian's words enter my mind.
"Don't worry, this baby can even put a giant to sleep so by the time you wake---"
And that was the last I could hear before my mind descended into darkness.
---
'So this is the effect of the mutations I chose huh?'
Clenching and unclenching my hand I felt the hidden power within them move within my veins.
The mutations I had chosen were ones that would definitely aid me in my future battles, a small grin making itself present on my face.
The mutations I had chosen and their effects were as follows.
[Combo]
[Each consecutive hit that connects continues your combo, increasing your damage dealt. The combo expires after 2.5 sec or if you are dealt damage.]
[Vengeance]
[+[60% base] damage dealt for 8 seconds and -30% damage taken for 3 seconds after taking damage.]
[Necromancy]
[Recover [0.3% base, 3% max] of your max HP after killing an enemy. This effect scales with the victim's max health and is reduced as you get closer to full health.]
Each one slightly modified my body like my heart, muscles and teeth and were definitely more noticeable.
I touched my canines that were now significantly sharper.
Hopefully I didn't have to bite into my enemies to heal like a vampire.
However I still remember the dull pain that the chameleon had put me through, looking at Guillian with a bit of resentment they felt my gaze and stared back.
Shrugging their shoulders their green eyes blinked "I warned you that I would put you to sleep didn't I? Not my fault that you resisted it somehow and woke up mid operation"
Guillian shivered as they recalled the accidental waking up mid procedure and nearly making him fumble the process.
If not for his timely reaction of putting another dose of Giant's dream into the accidental's blood, he feared that the accidental would've gained some bad results.
And on his honor they couldn't have that.
Feeling the slight tinge of pride in the lizards expression I grimaced.
'I would like to strangle you later but you gave me mutations so I'll put that thought on hold'
Looking away with a dark expression on my face I looked at my body and winced at the phantom pain of being operated on while still being conscious.
'I should go hunt some monsters to get rid of this sickly feeling'
Feeling slightly nauseous I ignored the strange gaze directed to the back of my head and summoned my armor.
Feeling the cold touch of Demonite grace my skin I suppressed a shiver and walked to the doors leading to the toxic sewers.
Before turning back to walk to Guillian as a thought surfaced in my mind.
Hearing a few footsteps near their position Guillian's ears? Or what substituted for ears perked up.
Turning to me they blinked. "Laid? What are you doing coming back so early? Aren't you going to test your mutations like you were going to do?"
"Quick question Guillian"
"Yes?"
"What was that blue thing that you put in my body when I woke up mid way?"
Hearing my words Guillian paused before looking at me with wide eyes... well wider eyes.
"You can see them? That's surprising, I thought you would have to talk to the collector to see them."
Hearing the name of an unfamiliar person I mentally noted that name down.
They were probably someone important if Guillian said I needed to meet this so called collector to see those blue balls though.
"Well these my good friend are called cells"
A ding hit the back of my head like a hammer as I went slightly slack eyed wondering what the hell those so called cells were, feeling the need to understand soon.
The good thing was that Guillian wasn't so mean to leave me out to dry and explained these things for me.
"I don't know how long cells have been around for and I don't really care for that knowledge, you need to know that cells interact with the body on the foundational level..."
'So like actual cells than, noted'
"...They also can be used for a thousand of other reasons besides the mutations that I mostly use them for"
I could feel the pride emanate through the tiny body as they puffed out their chest.
"And not to brag but totally to brag, I am quite skilled in using these cells for mutations"
Hearing the pride palpable in their voice I nodded "So what are the other functions of these cells?"
Eyeing the blue orbs the size of a tennis ball with arcs of lightning bouncing around in their core Guillian blinked.
"...Oh yeah, I forgot you're a new accidental"
Their chest now less puffed and their aura more serious as it wasn't infected by their pride of being a mutation seller, they looked at me with green eyes.
"Well really anything, but the one that the inhabitants of the kingdom of the malaise use them the most for is creating weapons that could be stored in the body"
"Much like the weapons and armor you quickly put away into your body" They pointed at the shadow set surrounding my body as I was struck with confusion.
