Chapter 53 - The Lunar Order (2)

"The Heretic is coming here?" The Lunatic Cultist kept his hands outstretched as he glanced at the red haired woman who had a terrified look in her eyes.

Traces of all sorts of abuse were present on her body, bloody marks from whip lashings, scorch marks from burning and unnaturally splayed limbs from dislocated joints and broken bones.

Turning away in satisfaction at how she was silent and now knew what a great honor she had for aiding in the resurrection of the Moon Lord.

The Lunatic Cultist narrowed their eyes from underneath the mask.

The Lunar Order had received a revelation from their lord about how they were to go to the Malaise filled lands to acquire something that would be key to free him.

That was why the Lunatic Cultist had sent a large force of Devotees to the Port City so that they could commandeer a few ships to travel to the Island of Malaise.

Although their doubts about whether or not the item would be even useful in the slightest.

Does dissenters had already been dissected and sacrificed to the Moon Lord for more power.

Narrowing their eyes underneath their mask the Lunatic Cultist turned to the mirror where the Devotee didn't dare to meet their eye and was kneeling on the ground.

Looking through the mirror and staring at the devotee the Cultist opened their mouth.

"I will send the Waning Crescent to support you, if you still fail after that"

A creepy laugh left the Cultists mouth.

"Pray to those false Gods that I don't get my hands on you"

So this is the place where the Lunar Order are rumored to be huh?

My eyes roamed around the port city Amurath as it took in all the sights.

The bustling activity was one that was unseen in the city of Tinell as the port city had people coming in through the large spanning sea on top of various ships.

Said ships were in varying states of durability as some of them were mostly in tip top shape, but they were the minority.

The ships were mostly broken in parts and were boarded up randomly all over as a bandage on the problem.

A safeguard to keep the problem at bay so to speak.

But can I use my powers to fix these ships in quick order?

Questions upon questions.

Waving away the merchants and mercenaries at the end of my consciousness.

Walking on the worn cobblestone streets I was aware of the gazes on my pouch of coins in my hand was growing.

'To gather information... it should be fine right?'

Thinking about how I gathered information in my previous venture into the city, I held the pouch of coin and grasped them tightly before putting it into my pocket.

Of course I put the coin pouch into my inventory within my pocket, but they didn't need to know that.

And would you look at that.

At the edges of my vision I was already being followed.

'Time to convince some people to give me their coins and some information'

Abruptly changing my direction into a nearby alleyway I walked through the long alleyways that were everywhere in the city.

Making my way through the veins of the city, I was acutely aware of the unfriendly gazes on my back as my footsteps resounded the enclosed space.

"Hey Bro!"

A voice from behind.

"Are you lost?"

Turning around to look at the group of men who looked like they lived in the backstreets of the world.

I slightly grinned.

"Yeah"

Looking at the guys who were in front of me, I glanced back to see that the space behind me was also blocked off by a group of thugs.

"What are you doing here than? This place is quite dangerous"

'Because of you guys of course'

The thin guy who called out to me in the first place fingered the hilt of the sword on their waste as they sauntered right next to me.

Standing at the same height as me, the man put their hands over my shoulder while flashing their rotten teeth.

"We can make sure that nothing happens to you"

Rubbing his fingers together greasily, his hand sneaked downwards to the pocket where I had stored the pouch of coins.

"However our services aren't free and the cost is..."

Pointing at my pocket he didn't even hide his desires as he smiled creepily, his parched lips spreading wide.

"The coin pouch in your pocket"

"Hah" Shaking my head at the unhidden greed the man frowned.

"What are you laughing about? Are you a du- GAH!"

Receiving an uppercut in the jaw that sent the man flying I grabbed the sword out of it's sheath and threw the guy attached to it to the group behind me.

Looking at the surprised group of thieves, I didn't give them time to understand the situation before laughing loudly and jumping into the crowd of people.

Rumors of the sword demon that laughed even as they beat up people while wielding people as weapons than circulated through the backstreets of Amurath.

Said demon had Flaming orange eyes that froze their enemies before using forbidden arts to cut through the air and attack people far from them.

"So the Lunar Order have been kidnapping young children?"

I sat on top of another guy as the thin man who at first put their hand on my shoulder kneeled on the ground with several bruises on their face and spoke through broken teeth.

"Correct, the guards wouldn't know it well as they don't like entering the backstreets where the slums are but us thugs..."

'At least he knows it'

"...know that the Lunar Order have been kidnapping people a lot lately" Spitting on the ground he continued.

"Most likely to have their god to bless them with more power or something"

Raising an eyebrow at that statement, an idle thought passed through my head that needed to be answered.

"What do they do to the kidnapped children? Well isn't obvious? They sacrifice them to their God"

Frowning at that statement I looked at the cloudy sky that seemed like an omen for things to come.

"So why are the Lunar Order here? From what you had said they hadn't been kidnapping people before, or am I wrong?"

Shaking his head, the man spat the accumulating blood and spit onto the ground.

"You're not wrong, but I don't know why they are here, to know that..."

The man grinned as I felt a presence behind me as my seat trembled.

Turning around, the skinny man finished his words as a large burly man wielding an axe while rubbing his beard made his way into the backstreets.

"...You can talk to my boss"

The large burly man looked at me as I looked at him with cold eyes.

Spinning his axe and striking a nearby wall, taking off a good chunk of it the man opened his bearded mouth.

"I surrender"

'What'
