Chapter 102: Always Together
"I wish for a goddess like you to be able to accompany me forever!"
Yuta repeated his wish nervously, watching Belldandy closely. This couldn't possibly be a wish that fell outside the rules, could it?
Considering the stories of the Seven Fairies, he wondered if Western deities also operated by similar principles.
But if she was capable of fulfilling wishes, then his should certainly be within her scope to grant, right?
Belldandy seemed taken aback by this wish, and shortly after Yuta made his request, the diamond-shaped mark on her forehead began to emit a powerful energy.
As Yuta witnessed, Belldandy tilted her head back to gaze at the ceiling, and from the mark on her forehead, a shockwave erupted, shattering the ceiling above them and shooting skyward!
Peering outside, Yuta saw the curtains billow as if caught in an unseen wind, revealing dark storm clouds beyond. The world outside dimmed, as if under divine judgment.
"What is happening...?" Yuta looked back at Belldandy, who was now floating in midair, continuously releasing energy outward.
The light in the room seemed to converge around Belldandy, radiating a sacred glow.
Before long, the light returned to normal, but Belldandy appeared extremely fatigued, swaying as if about to collapse.
Yuta quickly rushed to support her, utterly perplexed by the situation. Seeing her so drained, he felt guilt wash over him. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean for this to happen. We don't have to do it; consider it my unilateral withdrawal."
Belldandy opened her eyes and, realizing something, quickly stood up and ran toward Yuta's phone. "Sorry, can I use your phone?"
"Sure!" Yuta replied, relieved yet still confused about what was going on.
Belldandy dialed a number for the heavenly beings and began to inquire.
Watching her back as she spoke, Yuta glanced up at the gaping hole in the ceiling and wondered if it was fine as long as no mosquitoes got in...
"It's me, Belldandy… Yes… About that wish... Is it still valid? Why is this happening… Oh, great deity!"
Yuta listened in as Belldandy conversed with what appeared to be a higher deity. What was the number he had dialed? Could he redial it?
It seemed unlikely that he could redial, or else there wouldn't be many goddesses left in the heavenly realm after a few attempts.
Belldandy quickly ended her call and turned to Yuta, smiling as she said, "Mr. Yuta, your wish has been accepted. I just confirmed with the great deity, and he told me that this wish cannot be altered."
Yuta felt even more anxious than before, carefully confirming, "So, you'll be here for life?"
"Yes, I will be counted on your kindness in the future, Mr. Yuta," Belldandy replied politely.
Yuta hadn't thought too much before making his wish, but now a lot of questions surfaced.
"The great deities—those in charge—are they all okay with this?"
With the matters concerning the Queen Mother of the West in mind, Yuta sensed that this wasn't as straightforward as it seemed.
Belldandy smiled and nodded, "Yes, once a wish is accepted, it generates a very strong force of compulsion that no one can defy."
"And I cannot use great power myself; it's like a television that can't receive signals on its own—I need an antenna and sometimes a signal booster to get a clear connection. I simply act as a wire, conveying wishes for the great deity."
Belldandy looked at Yuta happily. "Rest assured, my role as an antenna has been lifted, and I will always stay here."
Feeling a sense of relief, Yuta suddenly found himself at a loss for what to do next. After a moment of silence, he asked, "So, what should we do now? I need to step out for a bit."
"Huh?" Belldandy, unfamiliar with this world, thought for a moment before saying, "Due to the contract between us, we can't be too far apart for too long; otherwise, the compulsion will activate."
"How far exactly, and how long is too long?" Yuta felt a bit troubled; if they had to stay within arm's reach, it could complicate many things.
"Within a day is fine, and as long as we aren't too far apart, we'll be okay," Belldandy assured him. "Please don't worry, Mr. Yuta; I will always be by your side!"
"Uh..." Yuta couldn't find it in himself to dislike Belldandy, especially as she smiled so warmly. "Alright, just call me Yuta. Let's go pick someone up; I'll introduce you to my family."
Belldandy smiled and nodded, delighted to be with Yuta.
Not bothering about the hole in the ceiling caused by the divine light, Yuta pushed his motorcycle out and decided he would move to the temple tomorrow. It wouldn't be suitable for Belldandy to stay here.
Once Belldandy was in the passenger seat, Yuta began to drive while chatting with her.
"Belldandy, what do you mean by the compulsion?"
Belldandy explained, "The compulsion is a supporting system that ensures the contract of the wish stays in effect. Your wish was for me to stay by your side, so when external forces try to separate us, the compulsion activates to eliminate those situations."
"Eliminate? How does that work?" Yuta was quite curious about this, especially since there was a woman at school who seemed intent on making his life difficult.
Belldandy wasn't entirely sure but generalized, "Those who try to disrupt our bond will face very unfortunate consequences."
Hearing this, Yuta nodded, feeling that it wasn't such a bad thing after all.
"By the way, Belldandy, since you're a goddess, do you eat the same food as ordinary people?" Yuta was curious about the distinction between goddesses and regular women.
Belldandy smiled and replied, "You don't need to worry. I can eat human food and can also prepare dishes from this country. Additionally, I have many professional certifications—like cooking, driving, sewing, and culinary arts, all of which I received while in the heavens."
"Wow... that's impressive," Yuta said, looking at the innocent goddess. He felt that having her around, along with her powers and skills, was quite beneficial.
