Chapter 113: Compulsion and the Reckless Girl
After Yuta, Belldandy, and Sayoko stepped away from the crowd of classmates, it was already past 11 o'clock. There was still some time left until lunch.
"Sayoko, Belldandy and I have some business with Aunt Kaoruko, so we'll have to postpone lunch for another time."
The main objective today was to introduce Belldandy to Kaoruko. Besides, Yuta had no interest in having lunch with Sayoko, as she wasn't exactly a quiet person.
Sayoko didn't push the matter upon hearing this, though she reluctantly said, "Fine, next time then. This weekend, I'm planning to host a gathering at my place. Yuta, you should come too. We're from the same school, after all, so we should get to know each other better."
However, Yuta had no intention of agreeing. "I have things to do this weekend, so I'll have to pass. Aunt Kaoruko is probably waiting for us. See you."
Hearing this, Belldandy felt a bit relieved. This way, the compulsion wouldn't be triggered.
Although Sayoko's previous injury had nothing to do with Belldandy directly, it was indeed caused by the effects of the compulsion.
As a result, even if Sayoko claimed that the injury was Belldandy's fault, Belldandy wouldn't have argued otherwise.
Sayoko, unaware of her own safety or the danger she had narrowly avoided, wasn't about to give up.
After Yuta and Belldandy left, Sayoko angrily stormed out of the school.
At school, Sayoko had a few friends, most of whom, like her, were children of wealthy families. However, their status wasn't quite as high as Sayoko's.
One stylishly dressed girl noticed Sayoko's irritation and smiled, asking, "What's wrong? Still haven't won over that boy?"
"Nothing of the sort! If I really made a move, making that guy fall at my feet would be a piece of cake!" Sayoko replied confidently, firmly believing in her own charm and superiority over Belldandy.
To her, there was no one better than herself in this world. Sayoko had always maintained an extremely high opinion of her own abilities and appeal.
The girl next to Sayoko, hearing this, encouraged her, "Didn't you say Yuta is Oda Raika's younger brother? Without Oda Raika in the picture, shouldn't it be easy for you to deal with that guy Yuta?"
"What are you trying to say?" Sayoko cast an impatient glance at her, feeling increasingly annoyed with these so-called friends.
This girl, also from a wealthy family, found the situation amusing and said, "Let's make a bet. Let's see how many days it takes for you to win that guy over. If you can do it within three days, I lose."
"What's the bet?" Sayoko, eager to get closer to Yuta, didn't reject the idea.
The girl thought for a moment before saying, "How about your sports car? If I lose, I'll get you the latest model as a replacement."
"Deal," Sayoko agreed without hesitation. While she wasn't particularly interested in cars, she was very interested in Yuta. "I'll start taking action tomorrow. Just watch!"
"We'll be waiting for you to bring him here to meet us!" Sayoko's friends found the whole thing entertaining.
They thrived on seeing what others couldn't attain with conventional means appear before them effortlessly, often using money to achieve what other methods couldn't.
For them, money was a tool to build confidence, charm, and a sense of superiority.
What others might toil a lifetime for was nothing more than an insignificant wager for these wealthy young women.
....
Meanwhile, at school, Yuta couldn't find Kaoruko. After a phone call, he confirmed that she had already gone home. Deciding to head to the apartment, he took Belldandy with him.
While driving, Yuta noticed that Belldandy seemed preoccupied. "Belldandy, what's on your mind?" he asked.
"I feel like Sayoko, who we separated from earlier, might be in danger," Belldandy said, gazing in a certain direction. From that direction, she could sense a strong compulsion emanating.
"Sayoko? What kind of danger is she in?" Yuta pulled over, even though he found Sayoko somewhat exasperating.
He wasn't the type to ignore someone in trouble, especially someone he knew.
Belldandy spoke with concern, "I sensed earlier that Sayoko was strongly motivated to separate us. The stronger that thought becomes, the more intense the compulsion she'll face."
"Compulsion doesn't work at a fixed intensity. The weaker the force trying to separate us, the weaker the compulsion. But as that force grows stronger, the compulsion also intensifies," Belldandy explained.
Yuta didn't doubt Sayoko's character. It was obvious she'd never encourage him and Belldandy to stay together—that would be impossible.
"So, Sayoko's likely to get hurt again? Sigh, I told her to stay in the infirmary longer," Yuta sighed, then asked, "If she gets injured, won't others help her? If we go there, won't it just make her obsession stronger?"
Belldandy shook her head. "Not necessarily. When the compulsion is weak, it won't affect the human body. But as it grows stronger, it can easily trigger fatal events, like lightning strikes or major accidents. The intensity of the compulsion's retaliation doesn't decrease because of human frailty; it depends solely on the strength of the force trying to separate us."
"Then we'd better check on her…" Yuta said, immediately turning the car around. Belldandy's warning sounded serious, and he couldn't just ignore Sayoko.
Belldandy was also determined not to let Sayoko get hurt because of her. As Yuta drove, she focused on locating Sayoko's position.
"To the left! Hurry, the compulsion is getting stronger!" Belldandy shouted anxiously as she sensed the escalating force ahead.
Yuta pushed the motorcycle to its maximum speed. The 3.0 engine roared as they sped down the road, quickly nearing a street close to the school.
"There she is!"
Before Belldandy could say anything, Yuta spotted the situation. A familiar sports car sped past them, and he could clearly see two panicked girls inside.
Yuta immediately gave chase, but the motorcycle struggled to keep up with the sports car, which had already reached its maximum speed.
"Belldandy! Can you slow that car down?" Yuta shouted. The car showed no signs of reducing speed, and at this rate, it was certain to crash into another vehicle or a stone wall ahead!
Belldandy didn't say anything but instead used her magic to enhance Yuta's motorcycle, temporarily increasing its speed.
