Chereads / Strong Miss Clara / Chapter 9 - Happiness

Chapter 9 - Happiness

Clara and Ignas walked into the house, both exhausted from the day's work. "Can I get a glass of hot chocolate please?" Ignas shouted once they stepped in.

Her question was met with a soft laughter from Jane. "A cup of hot chocolate indeed." She scoffed.

"Good evening everyone." Clara greeted, slumping onto an empty cushion in the sitting room.

"Why can't I get a glass of chocolate?" Ignas asked, taking a seat beside Clara.

"Because we've ran out. All thanks to you. You always have a glass each time you drop Clara off." Priscilla replied, climbing down the stairs. "Ariella is asleep everyone, easy with the noise."

"Oh! I'm sorry guys. I didn't realize that I take a lot of that stuff. You know what? I'll get some for the house."

Ignas said.

"How was work today?" Jane asked them.

"Stressful, as usual. Janey, how bad is my complexion? Please be honest." Clara requested.

"Uhm, I... I think you just need to be consistent with the application and reapplication of your sunscreen. That should be all you need."

"I didn't ask for a lecture on sunscreen and it's rules. How bad is my complexion, B?" Clara snapped.

"I'll get you a mirror." Jane replied and started heading upstairs.

"Just give the girl an answer, what's with all that drama." Ignas asked, pissed. "Your skin is way darker and I doubt the amount of sunscreen you use, the timing and the frequency of reapplication will matter. You literally dash your skin to the sun every single day you go to work, so it's normal that your skin will reply."

"Hmmm, I needed that." Clara said in a carefree voice. "But could you ever try to be less blunt? Can you try to coat your words at least?"

"You want me to give you a half baked truth, because you don't want to hear the truth?" Ignas asked.

"Yes..... No. It's just that, you are too direct at times. And for your information, I may get another job soon." She broke the news.

"That's great news, but when do you plan on doing that. Have you even start scouting for positions. I guess you just want to sound optimistic" Ignas said, regarding her closely.

"Sweetie, what work are you planning to do?" Priscilla asked. Jane didn't say a word, but her eyes was glued to Clara, waiting for an explanation.

Clara dipped her hand into the pocket of her jean and brought out a business card. She handed it to Ignas, who was seated close to her and as expected, Ignas read out the name on the card. "Why do you have Mr. Lewin's business card?"

"He gave it to me." She replied, making a fancy display of her hands.

Ignas smiled, "I think you're beginning to learn a thing or two from me." She said waving the card in the air. "He came to the park?"

"With his daughter, yes. We struck a conversation and he asked if I will want to work for him as his daughter's Nurse." The confusion on everybody's face was evident, so Clara decided to explain further. "Alright, here is how it happened. I stumbled on the information that you can be a child carer for a family in the capital. They refer to themselves as Nurses. The salary is good as well. All you need is a basic knowledge on how to use some basic medical equipments like the BP apparatus, and the rest will be for the doctors at the hospitals."

"Who told you this?" Jane asked.

"Some lady I saw at the park."

"That's good news right?" Priscilla asked.

"Yes, I don't think I can do anything better. I hate my current job and I've spent so many years caring for kids, I want a job that won't erase all those lovely memories." She said.

"And provide more money as well. Now, you're seeing through my lens." Ignas hollered.

"Well yes, the salary is part of the catch. Money is really necessary." Clara laughed. "I heard that hospitals at the capital are short-staffed, so people are unable to employ licensed workers to work for them."

"So, what are we doing with the business card. Are we calling the number or what?" Ignas asked.

"We?"

"I wasn't talking to you Jane." Ignas shot at her, and receive an annoying giggle from her.

"He said I should email my CV to the address on the card and once my eligibility is established, they will reach out to me."

"What are you waiting for? Get to it at once!" Said Jane, moving over to get the only laptop in the house.

"News on the street is that Mr. Lewin have been mourning his wife since her death and have not made any public appearance in his company since then. If he need someone to take care of his daughter, then maybe he wants to get back to work." Ignas told them.

"I think so too. I pray you get the job. I heard that Bennet Lewin own one of the biggest e-commerce company in Bramhills and it's surrounding states. Your salary will be promising enough if you get the job. If you add it to mine, we won't run out of foodstuff in the house anymore." Jane said, and everyone turned to her. They all knew that she's been job hunting for the longest time and have refused to settle for any job at Cherim, which was actually understandable, as there are just two companies in Cherim, one if which Clara's mum work in. Both companies pay their workers peanuts due of the large number of unemployed people willing to work for them. It was more like cheap labor. Aside this two company, Cherim was only made up small scale businesses that are barely surviving.

"You got a job?" They all chorused.

Jane started laughing.

She looked from one person to the other, all the while laughing at their funny reaction. "I was called to resume on Monday." She finally said.

"At the art gallery?" Asked Clara, and received an affirmative nod from Jane. She screamed out of excitement and hugged her friend tightly.

"This is the best news ever! I'm so happy for you." Clara told her.

"Me too. It feels so good to go back to work after so many years. Now, let's go construct a curriculum vitae and an application letter for you. Time is of the essence."

Tiny babbles were heard as Ariella climbed down the fur protected stairs.

"I told everyone to be calm and less noisy but no one listened to me. Clara and Jane, take care of Ariella. I'm off to the grocery store. We need a little celebratory dinner." Priscilla said and started heading towards the door. "Are you coming Ignas?"

"Mhmm," she replied standing up, "can I also stay for dinner? I've been eating out of the can for a couple of days now. A home cooked meal will do me some good."

"You are always welcome to stay." Priscilla said as both friend left the house, while Jane picked up Ariella.
