Chapter 1 - Chapter one

The rain poured down in torrent drenching Isabella to the bone as she sprintedown the even road littered with pothole, the Skelton of cars, dried blood and body parts.

Tears mixed with rain water rolled down her face. Heavy breaths of exhaustion ascaped her mouth as she tried to breath air into her starved lungs. Her heart felt like it was about to shoot out of her chest from how hard it was beating.

Every step was a battle against the elements and the fatigue threatened to overtake her. She couldn't give up now. She has come a long way for her to give up. But was it worth it? She was alone. Everything and everyone she knew was gone. They were separated not knowing if the other was alive or not. She was tired, hungry and scared. She wanted it to end, all the running and fighting for survival, The screams, the blood and death that has now become the world they live in.

She so wanted to end it all, to just give up. She had no one and no weapon to defend herself from the horde of mutilated zombies craving to sink their teeth in her warm flesh. She could hear their guttural growls and groans of hunger that sent shivers down her spine. The harsh wind blew bringing with it the smell of rotten flesh that almost made her throw up. They smelled even bad than when they were not wet. But she didn't want to stop now, she couldn't stop or she might end up like them, hungry for human flesh. She would rather die than turn like them.

The only thing that keeps her from ending it all is the bundle in her arms. Macy, her sweet Macy. But right now she was like a dinner bell, bringing everyone and everything's attention on them as she screamed her throat raw.

She was innocent, she was scared and so small. Her little body was shivering because of the cold and the rain seems to be drowning her. She hugged her even tighter. It was so hard surviving on your own let alone with a baby. But she had to try.

She doesn't deserve to live in a world were there are dangers and horrors in every corner. Were the undead ain't the only ones rotten to the core. Where the undead were not the only ones to fear. Where the undead weren't the only ones trying to tear you to pieces. She deserves better.

When the apocalypse came people were forced to change, to adapt, to evolve in this new world.

Amidst the chaos of the apocalypse the were glimpses of humanity, some tried helping each other, sharing shelter and supplies or offering reassuring words even though there was nothing reassuring about the the situation they were in.

Some chose to be selfish, hurting and killing in a bid to secure their own survival. Some used the apocalypse to their advantage to do bad, killing, kidnapping, rape. This was no world for the innocent and naive. Innocent like, Macy, Sebastián, Amy, Aisha, Lily, Ibrahim. All of them deserved better than this world could offer.

And the rest evolved differently. They evolved in ravenous mindless creatures who were hungry for human flesh. All because of a stupid vaccine.

She looked down at the baby in her arms who was crying her lungs out, which only excited the undead who released guttural growls in excitement to sink their rotten teeth in their flesh.

She pulled her even closer trying to shield her from the biting rain and cold as she increased her speed even though her muscles where on fire and shaking in exhustaded. She knew if she stopped with these many undead, they would tear her to pieces and wouldn't even leave a part of her to be remembrance that she once existed. They would wipe out her entire existence in a few minutes.

In her despration to escape the hord, she saw an alley that led to a street that looked empty from her perspective. She darted towards it careful of the trash scarted on the ground. At this point she was limping while running cause of the muscle pain. She made sure to stay virgilant and keep an eye out for anything that might jump out as Macy's cries bounced off the walls of the alley. She increased her pace when she saw the light from the end of the alley getting closer. She could make it. She could finally find a shelter to fend of the undead and the unforgiving rain.

She finally had hope to survive this but her hope was shattered when she got out of the alley, she turned to her right since it was a dead end in front of her and was met with an undead woman, if you would call her that. Her molten skin was peeling of in chunks cause of the heavy rain beating down on her, she barely had any hair left only a few strands here and there that sticked to her pale rotting forehead, her lips were missing showing her rotten gums and teeth as they snapped open and shut like she's fantasizing about how it will feel to sink her teeth in her flesh. She had one eyeball missing as the other ferociously glared at her like she did an unforgivable crime.

Isabella jumped back in fright just as the woman swung her arm to grab at her. Fear and dread crept in her veins as she looked behind the undead to see even more coming out of the shops that had their windows shattered and doors open. Some were coming from alleys as their glazed over eyes were trained on her and Macy.

She turned on her left her legs almost giving out on her by how fast she turned and started running only to stop dead in her tracks when she saw the same sight. The undead were pouring in from all directions. She looked back at the alley she cane from to see the ones that were chasing her pouring out on the streets joining the others in wanting to rip her apart.

Macy's crying increased joined in by the undead's growls. Macy was scared and so was Isabella. She wanted to comfort her but her heart was hammering to hard against her chest to chest to muster any words. Fear an dread gripped her heart as she looked at the terror surrounding her as the undead moved closer. She didn't know where to look as everywhere she looked she was met with death, peelin rotten flesh, mutilated bodies as some of them were even missing limbs.

She watched as one undead who had his legs missing desperately tried to crawl towards her, snapping his rotten teeth, but he was to slow. She watched the way the other trampled over him, his rotten flesh caving in as their footsteps left deep foot prints on his back. She could hear his bones snapping all the way from were she was standing. She watched as one stepped on his head his skull giving out as his brain and brown goey blood spilled all over the ground in slow motion.

Isabella gagged and looked away quickly. She would never get used to the sight of rotting flesh no matter how many times she has seen it. You just don't get used to such a sight.

She held Macy tighter as the circle the undead created closed even more.

She knew this was the end for her. There was no way out. She closed her eyes and held the baby who has already stopped crying from exhaustion.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, Macy. I'm sorry I couldn't protect you." She whispered to the baby through her sobs looking at her small shivering form. She closed her eyes as tears rolled down them and hugged Macy to her chest.

The zombies moved closer and closer until there was no sign of the woman holding the baby and the only thing visible was the battered and mutilated bodies of the undead.
