Chapter 20 - First fall of snow–I will pray for you

(A week later)

"Rhett wake up." Neva whispered near the sleeping boy's ear. He didn't response, so she lightly pinched his cheeks.

"Rhett, wake up,"

"It's snowing." Neva pouted, Rhett didn't spare a move of his finger.

"Wake up! Rhett!" Peeling off the quilt, utilizing a bit more force she tried rousing him up.

All of a sudden, bowling over her, Rhett pulled Neva down—colliding their chests.

Startled, Neva looked over at her cheesily grinning lover. Pecking his willowy lips, blossoming a beaming smile over his own, she leaned in, softing hearing his jaggy heartbeat. Rhett wrapped his arms around her, fingers tenderly flowing with her hair.

"Rhett, it's the first fall of snow." Neva murmured, making Rhett kiss her mellow wavy hair.

"Stay a little longer." Rhett whispered. Laying off Neva hummed, fonding over their moment.

Little over thirty minutes, Neva finally drew him off her bed.

Out the doors, their cozy Apartment with only scanty tenant inhabitants, Neva felt the touch of falling snow.

Rhett drew in her mirthfull, radiant eyes—warming his cold heart. Peering upon her underneath the falling snows, he realised, he was falling for her... Harder than ever.

Bowing like a prince, offering his cold hand, he proposed her for a dance.

"May I have the honour to dance with my love?" He presented, his smile her warm daylight.

In the absence of words, adorning rosy cheeks, Neva delighted received his hands. And he smiled brighter in glee.

Sweet laughing in mirth, the lovers swayed their silhouettes—around the soft, ivory snowdrift.

Playing around the snow, forever elapsed. Neva's protective boyfriend took her back indoors, perturbed she would catch cold.

Succeeding washing up, Rhett saw Neva in the kitchen, chopping vegetables humming a melody. Her wet hair wrapped up in a towel.

Slowly with hushed steps, he sneaked his arms around Neva's waist, cradling her.

Stunned by his sudden action, she calmed from his touch. "I'm not done cooking Rhett." Swiftly tilting her head, she rubbed her nose with his, making the man giggle like a child. "You can sit over there," She said, gesturing at the chairs, circling the dining table.

"I don't like being apart from you." He responded, smooching her nap. "It tickles!" Neva laughed, bending forward, having him chuckle.

"Angel, I need to tell you something." Rhett began.

"What is it?" Neva asked, chopping the last bunch of kales.

"Remember, I said on the woods that day, that I had things I've kept from you."

Neva slightly shifting away, she stirred her stew. "I assumed you would tell me gradually. But there's no pressure, you can take your time."

He shook his head, sighing. "I'm not what you think Angel."

Neva creased her brows at him. Feeling strangely edgy, she turned off the stove. "What do you mean?"

He breathed out deeply, he turned her around and took hold of her hands. "Actually, I'm an Agent of EIS."

"What?" Neva's bewildered, fallen face had him grip his breath.

"Are you pranking me?" She asked.

"No, of course not. I won't joke about something like this." He remarked.

"I thought you owned that, car service workshop? How?" Neva probed, her heart turning numb.

"It's just there. Casually. Could say to mask for my identity." He shrugged, trying to read Neva's expression.

She was silent, trying to help not feel deceived.

"There's another assignment for me. I'd probably be gone for a week, or more." He slowly, carefully said.

Although he send Ace back and probably angered Elk, he couldn't still be laid back and forever ignore his job.

He had to be back.

Neva was strangely quiet.

"Say something Angel," Rhett mumbled, feeling anxious.

Neva sighed, pulling away from his hold she walked towards her couch.

He immediately trailed after her.

Uncovering her hair from the cloth, she sat down, tossing it beside her.

"It feels a bit—heavy to take it in. " Neva said, looking up at him.

Rhett knelt down before her frame.

"I knew I'd tell you eventually. Forgive me please." He gave her those innocent eyes, which Neva could never resist.

"You are brutal to me." Neva glared at him, her eyes glossy.

"If I told you sooner, would it have changed anything between us?" He softly asked.

Heart beating rapidly looking through those marmoris eyes of hers.

"I don't know. This profession ask you to risk lives doesn't it?" Neva inquired, her heart heavy.

Rhett hesitatated. He swallowed.

"Sometimes."

"You're so cruel Rhett!" Neva spat out, sinking her teeth on the lower lip, abusing the sensitive brim—her eyes dimming.

He had a dangerous job, risking his life. It didn't sit right with her that her boyfriend did something so threatening for living.

Had he ever killed people?

It made her heart heavier.

Everytime he would be away, he would always leave a lingering fear within her—and she didn't want this feeling.

"I'm really sorry Angel. I promise you, it won't affect us negatively. You wouldn't need to worry about anything."

"For how long have you been working as an Agent?" Neva asked.

"Well I started out the career fairly early. Approximately five years. And I don't have a college degree." Rhett revealed, shrugging lightly.

"My father was one too. I only followed his footsteps because I got a kick out of it." He chuckled to lighten up the mood.

But Neva only eyed him incredulously.

"You won't leave me right?" He suddenly started panicking.

He leaned in, carefully he tenderly embraced her. "Please don't leave me."

As she didn't turn him away, he only tightened his hold on her. Neva's warmth—calming his soul. If possible, he wanted them to stay like that forever.

He even contemplated the night before if he could just delay more days going to work. After all, he was just beginning to feel emotions he thought was impossible. That he could be laughing, smiling and be happy too.

He squeezed her body closer to him.

Right now, he even surprised himself by thinking about just leaving the job and focus on the workshop, if it meant he could just spend a little more time with Neva.

A lone tear escaped Neva's eyes, bearing his own warmth.

She didn't even know anymore.

"When are you going?" She asked.

"Two days later." He nervously replied.

"Just don't leave me widowed Rhett. Always come back safe to me." She murmered out, finally wrapping her arms around him.

He chuckled at her assert, relief washing over him. "I won't ever leave you widowed. You'll always find me back home—safe in your arms." He snuggled closer to her.

"After all, I wanna live our beautiful future." He murmered, his voice muffled.

"Can you make it to Christmas?"

"I think so. I'll promise to come back before Christmas."

Neva chuckled. "You don't have to promise."

"I'll pray for you." Neva whispered.

Rhett pulled away and looked at her stunned. "You'll pray for me?"

She nodded. "Of course. That's the greatest, and the only thing I can do for you."

Rhett longingly stared at her, his whole insides melting snow. No weapons could be greater than what she had offered him.

Neva being his greatest strength. He knew she meant it. She had always been a firm with her fate and he occasionally saw her read the Bible.

And she always believed prayer to be one of the most powerful weapons.

And now for the reason he was blessed Neva; she was mellowing his heart that perhaps the Divine Being really did exist.
