Chapter 46 - The Test Awaits

As the mystic theory class with Arjun Sharma concluded, Scion felt a nagging frustration gnawing at him. Despite his remarkable progress in mastering mystic control, he couldn't shake the sensation that he had reached a plateau. The desire to unlock his full potential consumed him, but he was uncertain about the next steps.

It was now only a few days before the pivotal test, and Scion was in dire need of a breakthrough. He decided to consult his mentor, Mik Nightshade, who had guided him so far in his mystic journey.

Approaching Mik's dwelling, Scion found his mentor engrossed in some ancient mystic texts. "Mik," he began, "I've hit a wall in my training. I don't know what to do next."

Mik raised an eyebrow, peering over his reading glasses. "A wall, you say? Interesting. You've come quite far, and it's natural to face challenges along the way."

Scion sighed, feeling a bit disheartened. "I know, but I can't afford to stagnate now, not with the test approaching."

Mik chuckled, his voice laced with confidence. "You've come to the right place, my young disciple. Perhaps it's time for a little test of our own."

Scion furrowed his brow, intrigued yet unsure. "What kind of test?"

Mik's eyes sparkled with mischief. "A test of strength, of course. To see if you've truly grown."

Suppressing a smile, Scion nodded. "Alright, I'm up for it. But I have to be honest; I still don't think I can beat you."

Mik's chest puffed out in mock arrogance. "Well, you're not wrong, my friend. Beating me would be a monumental feat."

Despite the jest, Scion couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope. He knew Mik's training was unorthodox but highly effective. If Mik proposed this test, it must be for a good reason.

They found a suitable training ground away from prying eyes, ready to begin their contest. Scion's heart raced with anticipation.

The duel unfolded with a ferocity that was nothing short of awe-inspiring. Mik, his movements a mesmerizing blur, struck with the swiftness of a striking cobra. His blows were precise, each one calculated to exploit Scion's weaknesses. The impact of each hit reverberated through the training ground, a testament to Mik's raw power and skill.

Scion, however, was not the same as before. He felt the transformation within him, a seismic shift in his control over mystic energy. It coursed through his veins like a living entity, an obedient force that responded to his very will. With every movement, he could sense the energies aligning, no longer rebellious but harmonizing with his intentions. It was progress that transcended mere words; it was a sensation he could touch and embrace.

As they sparred, the atmosphere crackled with mystic power. Scion's reflexes had honed to a razor's edge, allowing him to not only react but also counter Mik's onslaught. His strikes, though still unable to breach Mik's formidable defence, bore the weight of newfound prowess. Each move was a testament to Scion's relentless dedication, and the combat became a dance of power and technique.

Mik's internal monologue was a tumultuous whirlwind of emotions. His surprise was undeniable. Scion's advancement had been nothing short of astounding, a remarkable ascent that had taken even Mik off guard. With each clash, Mik's pride swelled his disciple's growth a reflection of his own guidance and mentorship.

However, amidst the astonishment, Mik couldn't help but feel a trace of unease. The student had become a contender, and the master realized that Scion's potential was far greater than he had initially estimated. It was a bittersweet revelation, knowing that the disciple might one day surpass the teacher.

Mik, with a blend of respect and amusement, decided it was time to test the limits of his disciple's newfound abilities. He called forth his power, channelling it into a final, breathtaking strike. The energy around him crackled and surged, and with a flourish of precision, he delivered a blow that sent Scion sprawling.

As Scion hit the ground, he couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. The exhilaration of progress coursed through him, and despite the inevitable outcome of the duel, he had demonstrated his growth.

Mik stood over Scion, his gaze filled with a complex mix of emotions. "Did you notice the difference?" Mik inquired, his voice holding a rare note of respect.

Scion, catching his breath, responded with conviction. "Yes, Mik, I did. I may not have broken through, but I've come a long way."

Mik's response was cryptic, hinting at the broader path of growth. "Scion, there are other ways to become stronger. Power alone is not the answer."

Curiosity piqued, Scion inquired further. "What do you mean, Mik? Are there other tests or trials I should know about?"

Mik chuckled and shook his head. "My dear Scion, some lessons must be learned on your own. Keep training, and you'll find the path to your potential."

As they parted ways, Scion knew he had much to ponder. Mik had shared some wisdom, yet he felt like there were hidden truths still eluding him.

Scion dedicated the following days to rigorous training, each session bringing him closer to unravelling his true potential. He was filled with determination, knowing that the upcoming test was a challenge he needed to conquer.

The eve of the test arrived, and the academy sent out a message to all students. The test would involve groups of three, and students would face mystic beasts in the academy's artificial caves, replicating the enchanted realm's challenging environment. Some of these creatures were quite dangerous, while others were less formidable. To ensure the safety of the students, academy teachers would be scattered throughout the caves, keeping a watchful eye on the proceedings.

Scion was eager for the test, and he approached his friends, Eve and Luke, to join him. He had no doubt that their training had prepared them for this day.

Excitement brimming in his voice, Scion said, "Eve, Luke, we've come a long way. I believe we're more than ready for this. Will you join me?"

Eve, who had advanced to tier 2, the intermediate stage, was eager to prove herself. "Of course, Scion. I've been looking forward to this challenge."

Luke, with his steadfast determination, nodded in agreement. "We're in this together. Let's show them what we can do."

With a formidable team by his side, Scion felt ready to face the test. The next day, the principal announced the beginning of the challenge, setting the stage for a pivotal moment in their mystic journey.
