November 1st, 2020, there was a traffic accident. A truck transporting petrol had been barreling down the street, when, to the driver's appallment, the brakes stopped working. The light in front of the driver was yellow starting to turn red, and as the truck neared, someone was running across the crosswalk, not paying attention to the truck that was about to take their life.
That morning on the news, the residents of Berkeley, California saw as it was reported the traffic incident killed one person, heavily injured 4 more, and more than 10 escaped with light injuries. The one killed was a student of the nearby Berkeley University, that had been running to morning lectures.

On the other side of the universe on a small blue planet similar to Earth, a young couple and nurses stared with horror at the premature baby before them. The young couple stared at their firstborn, as their heads flashed through thoughts of sorrow, anger, and hope.
Sorrow at the thought that their firstborn would probably not survive the coming days, anger at the world that brought this accursed fate to them, and a sliver of hope that maybe their son would make it through this ordeal and go on to live his life.
The baby was immediately placed in an incubator as doctors checked to ensure it was healthy and hooked it up to the nutrients it would need to grow to its proper newborn state. The parents also spared no effort as they used their immense wealth to get the best doctors and medicine across the country and to help their son survive.
One positive in this terrible scenario was that the mother had also made through this event and after a few days of recuperating was back on her own two feet. The premature baby was given a meager chance of surviving through the winter as it came out in November, 5 weeks premature, and along with it, the mother was also very weak from the act of giving birth for the first time.

3 weeks later, the baby was caught opening its eyes for the first time.

Light. That was all that I saw. And then came the ringing in my ears, at first a deafening roar, then it started to calm down. As my eyes adjusted to the light, blurry figures started taking from in front of me. I couldn't feel my body.
As I realized this, panic quickly entered my brain as I forced myself to stay calm. I needed to collect myself and pinpoint what was happening. The last thing I remembered was running; running to my college lectures.
I was running across the crosswalk when suddenly I felt a push on my left side, and then that was it. I focused and tried to remember what had happened after that.
That's when I realized, I had gotten hit. In my hurry to make it on time to my lectures, I had been too focused, not realizing when the light to cross was still red, and from my impatience, I had run straight into the path of a vehicle.
Now, turning back to the situation I was in. To my right, I made out the shapes of two people. The one closest to me seemed to be a woman I didn't recognize with dirty blond hair and grey eyes.
For some reason, there was excitement, worry, and relief all at the same time on her face. Next to her stood a man with his arm wrapped around her with similar emotions appearing on his face.
The man had blueish-grey eyes and dull blonde, almost grey hair. The man seemed a bit taller than the woman but both were still pretty tall. The thing that caught the most attention from me though, was that they were both extremely beautiful with eye candy for faces that anyone would love to look at.
To my left stood a man of medium stature with jet-black hair wearing what seemed to be a doctor's coat. In opposition to the two on my right looking down at me, the man was looking straight behind me at what was probably a machine of some kind making beeps twice a minute.
I figured I was in some sort of hospital from the man with black hair and the machine outside of my view, but as I stared at the ceiling, it was not the normal tiles or cement you would expect in a hospital. Instead, it was exposed wooden beams that supported a slanted roof.
What? Where was I wondered, when suddenly the ringing that was dying down in my ears gave away to what seemed to be chatter in a language I couldn't understand. In the corner of my vision, a hand suddenly appeared in view. But instead of the normal hand I was used to, it was a small baby's hand. And like the truck that had hit me before, I realized.
"Have I been reincarnated like one of those web novels I used to read?"
That must be it, at first I thought I was in a hospital recovering, but with the baby's hand I could sort of make move suddenly entering my vision, I knew it. I had died(probably) and been reincarnated in the body of this baby. Now what was left was to figure out, was where, when, why, and how I had reincarnated.
As I started thinking, a light voice called out,
'Welcome Alexander Bellmont, to the Story System.'
